كُلُّAllٱلطَّعَامِ[the] foodكَانَwasحِلًّاlawfulلِّبَنِىٓfor (the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatحَرَّمَmade unlawfulإِسْرَٰٓءِيلُIsraelعَلَىٰuponنَفْسِهِۦhimselfمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تُنَزَّلَ(was) revealedٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُthe TauratقُلْSayفَأْتُوا۟So bringبِٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِthe Tauratفَٱتْلُوهَآand recite itإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful93
فَمَنِThen whoeverٱفْتَرَىٰfabricatesعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahٱلْكَذِبَ[the] lieمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthen those هُمُtheyٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ(are) the wrongdoers94
قُلْSayصَدَقَ(has) spoken the truthٱللَّهُAllahفَٱتَّبِعُوا۟then followمِلَّةَ(the) religionإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimحَنِيفًا(the) uprightوَمَاand notكَانَhe wasمِنَofٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists95
إِنَّIndeedأَوَّلَ(the) FirstبَيْتٍHouseوُضِعَset upلِلنَّاسِfor the mankindلَلَّذِى(is) the one whichبِبَكَّةَ(is) at Bakkahمُبَارَكًاblessedوَهُدًىand a guidanceلِّلْعَٰلَمِينَfor the worlds96
فِيهِIn itءَايَٰتٌۢ(are) signsبَيِّنَٰتٌclearمَّقَامُstanding placeإِبْرَٰهِيمَ(of) Ibrahimوَمَنand whoeverدَخَلَهُۥenters it كَانَisءَامِنًاsafeوَلِلَّهِAnd (due) to Allahعَلَىuponٱلنَّاسِthe mankindحِجُّ(is) pilgrimageٱلْبَيْتِ(of) the Houseمَنِ(for one) whoٱسْتَطَاعَis ableإِلَيْهِto [it]سَبِيلًا(find) a wayوَمَنAnd whoeverكَفَرَdisbelievedفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahغَنِىٌّ(is) free from needعَنِofٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe universe97
قُلْSayيَٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhyتَكْفُرُونَ(do) you disbelieveبِـَٔايَٰتِin (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱللَّهُwhile Allahشَهِيدٌ(is) a Witnessعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatتَعْمَلُونَyou do98
قُلْSayيَٰٓأَهْلَO Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the BookلِمَWhyتَصُدُّونَ(do) you hinderعَنfromسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمَنْ(those) whoءَامَنَbelieve[d]تَبْغُونَهَاseeking (to make) itعِوَجًا(seem) crookedوَأَنتُمْwhile youشُهَدَآءُ(are) witnessesوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُAllahبِغَٰفِلٍ(is) unawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do99
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believe[d]إِنIfتُطِيعُوا۟you obeyفَرِيقًاa groupمِّنَfromٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookيَرُدُّوكُمthey will turn you backبَعْدَafterإِيمَٰنِكُمْyour beliefكَٰفِرِينَ(as) disbelievers100
وَكَيْفَAnd how (could)تَكْفُرُونَyou disbelieveوَأَنتُمْwhile [you]تُتْلَىٰis recitedعَلَيْكُمْupon youءَايَٰتُ(the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَفِيكُمْand among youرَسُولُهُۥ(is) His MessengerوَمَنAnd whoeverيَعْتَصِمholds firmlyبِٱللَّهِto Allahفَقَدْthen surelyهُدِىَhe is guidedإِلَىٰtoصِرَٰطٍa pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍstraight101
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]ٱتَّقُوا۟FearٱللَّهَAllahحَقَّ(as is His) rightتُقَاتِهِۦ(that) He (should) be fearedوَلَاand (do) notتَمُوتُنَّdieإِلَّاexceptوَأَنتُم[while you]مُّسْلِمُونَ(as) Muslims102
وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟And hold firmlyبِحَبْلِto (the) ropeٱللَّهِ(of) Allahجَمِيعًاall togetherوَلَاand (do) notتَفَرَّقُوا۟be dividedوَٱذْكُرُوا۟And rememberنِعْمَتَ(the) Favorٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَيْكُمْon youإِذْwhenكُنتُمْyou wereأَعْدَآءًenemiesفَأَلَّفَthen He made friendshipبَيْنَbetweenقُلُوبِكُمْyour heartsفَأَصْبَحْتُمthen you becameبِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓby His FavorإِخْوَٰنًاbrothersوَكُنتُمْAnd you wereعَلَىٰonشَفَا(the) brinkحُفْرَةٍ(of) pitمِّنَofٱلنَّارِthe Fireفَأَنقَذَكُمthen He saved youمِّنْهَاfrom itكَذَٰلِكَThusيُبَيِّنُmakes clearٱللَّهُAllahلَكُمْfor youءَايَٰتِهِۦHis Versesلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَهْتَدُونَ(be) guided103
وَلْتَكُنAnd let there beمِّنكُمْamong youأُمَّةٌ[a] peopleيَدْعُونَinvitingإِلَىtoٱلْخَيْرِthe goodوَيَأْمُرُونَ[and] enjoiningبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِthe rightوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbiddingعَنِfromٱلْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَand those هُمُtheyٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ(are) the successful ones104
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَكُونُوا۟beكَٱلَّذِينَlike those whoتَفَرَّقُوا۟became dividedوَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟and differedمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَاwhatجَآءَهُمُcame to them ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُthe clear proofsوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَAnd thoseلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat105
يَوْمَ(On the) Dayتَبْيَضُّwould become whiteوُجُوهٌ(some) facesوَتَسْوَدُّand would become blackوُجُوهٌ(some) facesفَأَمَّاAs forٱلَّذِينَthose whoseٱسْوَدَّتْturn blackوُجُوهُهُمْ[their] faces أَكَفَرْتُمDid you disbelieveبَعْدَafterإِيمَٰنِكُمْyour beliefفَذُوقُوا۟Then tasteٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentبِمَاfor whatكُنتُمْyou used toتَكْفُرُونَdisbelieve106
وَأَمَّاBut as forٱلَّذِينَthose whoseٱبْيَضَّتْturn whiteوُجُوهُهُمْ[their] facesفَفِىthen (they will be) inرَحْمَةِ(the) Mercyٱللَّهِ(of) Allahهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever107
تِلْكَTheseءَايَٰتُ(are the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) AllahنَتْلُوهَاWe recite themعَلَيْكَto youبِٱلْحَقِّin truthوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُAllahيُرِيدُwantsظُلْمًاinjusticeلِّلْعَٰلَمِينَto the worlds108
وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allah (belongs)مَاwhateverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whateverفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِthe earthوَإِلَىAnd toٱللَّهِAllahتُرْجَعُwill be returnedٱلْأُمُورُthe matters109
كُنتُمْYou areخَيْرَ(the) bestأُمَّةٍ(of) peopleأُخْرِجَتْraisedلِلنَّاسِfor the mankind تَأْمُرُونَenjoiningبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِthe rightوَتَنْهَوْنَand forbiddingعَنِ[from]ٱلْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَتُؤْمِنُونَand believingبِٱللَّهِin AllahوَلَوْAnd ifءَامَنَbelievedأَهْلُ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the Bookلَكَانَsurely would have beenخَيْرًاgoodلَّهُمfor themمِّنْهُمُAmong themٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ(are) [the] believersوَأَكْثَرُهُمُbut most of themٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ(are) defiantly disobedient110
لَنNeverيَضُرُّوكُمْwill they harm youإِلَّآexceptأَذًىa hurtوَإِنAnd ifيُقَٰتِلُوكُمْthey fight youيُوَلُّوكُمُthey will turn (towards) youٱلْأَدْبَارَthe backsثُمَّthenلَاnotيُنصَرُونَthey will be helped111
ضُرِبَتْStruckعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلذِّلَّةُthe humiliationأَيْنَwhereverمَاthatثُقِفُوٓا۟they are foundإِلَّاexceptبِحَبْلٍwith a ropeمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَحَبْلٍand a ropeمِّنَfromٱلنَّاسِthe peopleوَبَآءُوAnd they incurredبِغَضَبٍwrathمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَضُرِبَتْand struckعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلْمَسْكَنَةُthe povertyذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) becauseكَانُوا۟they used toيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveبِـَٔايَٰتِin (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَيَقْتُلُونَand they killedٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَthe ProphetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّrightذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseعَصَوا۟they disobeyedوَّكَانُوا۟and they used toيَعْتَدُونَtransgress112
لَيْسُوا۟They are notسَوَآءً(the) sameمِّنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the Bookأُمَّةٌ(is) a communityقَآئِمَةٌstandingيَتْلُونَ(and) recitingءَايَٰتِ(the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahءَانَآءَ(in the) hoursٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَهُمْand theyيَسْجُدُونَprostrate113
يُؤْمِنُونَThey believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِthe Lastوَيَأْمُرُونَand they enjoinبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ[with] the rightوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbidعَنِ[from]ٱلْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَيُسَٰرِعُونَand they hastenفِىinٱلْخَيْرَٰتِthe good deedsوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَAnd thoseمِنَ(are) fromٱلصَّٰلِحِينَthe righteous114
وَمَاAnd whateverيَفْعَلُوا۟they doمِنْofخَيْرٍa goodفَلَنthen neverيُكْفَرُوهُwill they be denied itوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowingبِٱلْمُتَّقِينَof the God-fearing115
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedلَنneverتُغْنِىَwill availعَنْهُمْ[for] themأَمْوَٰلُهُمْtheir wealthوَلَآand notأَوْلَٰدُهُمtheir childrenمِّنَagainstٱللَّهِAllahشَيْـًٔاanythingوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَand thoseأَصْحَٰبُ(are the) companionsٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fireهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever116
مَثَلُExampleمَا(of) whatيُنفِقُونَthey spendفِىinهَٰذِهِthisٱلْحَيَوٰةِ[the] lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) exampleرِيحٍ(of) a windفِيهَاin itصِرٌّ(is) frostأَصَابَتْit struckحَرْثَ(the) harvestقَوْمٍ(of) a peopleظَلَمُوٓا۟who wrongedأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesفَأَهْلَكَتْهُthen destroyed itوَمَاAnd notظَلَمَهُمُ(has) wronged themٱللَّهُAllahوَلَٰكِنْ[and] butأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesيَظْلِمُونَthey wronged117
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لَا(Do) notتَتَّخِذُوا۟takeبِطَانَةً(as) intimatesمِّنfromدُونِكُمْother than yourselvesلَاnotيَأْلُونَكُمْthey will spare youخَبَالًا(any) ruinوَدُّوا۟They wishمَاwhatعَنِتُّمْdistresses youقَدْIndeedبَدَتِ(has become) apparentٱلْبَغْضَآءُthe hatredمِنْfromأَفْوَٰهِهِمْtheir mouthsوَمَاand whatتُخْفِىconcealsصُدُورُهُمْtheir breastsأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterقَدْCertainlyبَيَّنَّاWe made clearلَكُمُfor youٱلْءَايَٰتِthe Versesإِنifكُنتُمْyou wereتَعْقِلُونَ(to use) reason118
هَٰٓأَنتُمْLo! You areأُو۟لَآءِthoseتُحِبُّونَهُمْyou love themوَلَاbut notيُحِبُّونَكُمْthey love youوَتُؤْمِنُونَand you believeبِٱلْكِتَٰبِin the Book كُلِّهِۦall of itوَإِذَاAnd whenلَقُوكُمْthey meet youقَالُوٓا۟they sayءَامَنَّاWe believeوَإِذَاAnd whenخَلَوْا۟they are aloneعَضُّوا۟they biteعَلَيْكُمُat youٱلْأَنَامِلَthe finger tipsمِنَ(out) ofٱلْغَيْظِ[the] rageقُلْSayمُوتُوا۟Dieبِغَيْظِكُمْin your rageإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowingبِذَاتِof whatٱلصُّدُورِ(is in) the breasts119
إِنIfتَمْسَسْكُمْtouches youحَسَنَةٌa goodتَسُؤْهُمْit grieves themوَإِنand ifتُصِبْكُمْstrikes youسَيِّئَةٌmisfortuneيَفْرَحُوا۟they rejoiceبِهَاat itوَإِنAnd ifتَصْبِرُوا۟you are patientوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)لَاnotيَضُرُّكُمْwill harm youكَيْدُهُمْtheir plotشَيْـًٔا(in) anythingإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey doمُحِيطٌ(is) All-Encompassing120
وَإِذْAnd whenغَدَوْتَyou left early morningمِنْfromأَهْلِكَyour householdتُبَوِّئُto postٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersمَقَٰعِدَ(to take) positionsلِلْقِتَالِfor the battleوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing121
إِذْWhenهَمَّتinclinedطَّآئِفَتَانِtwo partiesمِنكُمْamong youأَنthatتَفْشَلَاthey lost heartوَٱللَّهُbut Allahوَلِيُّهُمَا(was) their protectorوَعَلَىAnd onٱللَّهِAllahفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِlet put (their) trustٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers122
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyنَصَرَكُمُhelped youٱللَّهُAllahبِبَدْرٍin Badrوَأَنتُمْwhile you (were)أَذِلَّةٌweakفَٱتَّقُوا۟So fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) grateful123
إِذْWhenتَقُولُyou saidلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersأَلَنIs it notيَكْفِيَكُمْenough for youأَنthatيُمِدَّكُمْreinforces youرَبُّكُمyour Lordبِثَلَٰثَةِwith threeءَالَٰفٍthousand[s]مِّنَ[of]ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ[the] Angelsمُنزَلِينَ[the ones] sent down124
بَلَىٰٓYesإِنifتَصْبِرُوا۟you are patientوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)وَيَأْتُوكُمand they come upon youمِّن[of]فَوْرِهِمْsuddenlyهَٰذَا[this]يُمْدِدْكُمْwill reinforce youرَبُّكُمyour Lordبِخَمْسَةِwith fiveءَالَٰفٍthousand[s]مِّنَ[of]ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ[the] Angelsمُسَوِّمِينَ[the ones] having marks125
وَمَاAnd notجَعَلَهُmade itٱللَّهُAllahإِلَّاexceptبُشْرَىٰ(as) good newsلَكُمْfor youوَلِتَطْمَئِنَّand to reassureقُلُوبُكُمyour heartsبِهِۦwith itوَمَاAnd (there is) noٱلنَّصْرُ[the] victoryإِلَّاexceptمِنْfromعِندِ[near]ٱللَّهِAllahٱلْعَزِيزِthe All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمِthe All-Wise126
لِيَقْطَعَThat He may cut offطَرَفًاa partمِّنَofٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelievedأَوْorيَكْبِتَهُمْsuppress themفَيَنقَلِبُوا۟so (that) they turn backخَآئِبِينَdisappointed127
لَيْسَNotلَكَfor youمِنَofٱلْأَمْرِthe decisionشَىْءٌ(of) anythingأَوْwhetherيَتُوبَHe turnsعَلَيْهِمْto themأَوْorيُعَذِّبَهُمْpunishes themفَإِنَّهُمْfor indeed, theyظَٰلِمُونَ(are) wrongdoers128
وَلِلَّهِAnd to Allah (belongs)مَاwhatفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَمَاand whatفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِthe earthيَغْفِرُHe forgivesلِمَن[for] whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَيُعَذِّبُand punishesمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful129
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believeلَا(Do) notتَأْكُلُوا۟eatٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟the usuryأَضْعَٰفًاdoubledمُّضَٰعَفَةًmultipliedوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful130
وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱلنَّارَthe Fireٱلَّتِىٓwhichأُعِدَّتْis preparedلِلْكَٰفِرِينَfor the disbelievers131
وَأَطِيعُوا۟And obeyٱللَّهَAllahوَٱلرَّسُولَand the Messengerلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُرْحَمُونَreceive mercy132
وَسَارِعُوٓا۟And hastenإِلَىٰtoمَغْفِرَةٍforgivenessمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَجَنَّةٍand a Garden عَرْضُهَاits widthٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ(is like that of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضُand the earthأُعِدَّتْpreparedلِلْمُتَّقِينَfor the pious133
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيُنفِقُونَspendفِىinٱلسَّرَّآءِ[the] easeوَٱلضَّرَّآءِand (in) the hardshipوَٱلْكَٰظِمِينَand those who restrainٱلْغَيْظَthe angerوَٱلْعَافِينَand those who pardonعَنِ[from]ٱلنَّاسِthe people وَٱللَّهُand Allahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers134
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd thoseإِذَاwhenفَعَلُوا۟they didفَٰحِشَةًimmoralityأَوْorظَلَمُوٓا۟wrongedأَنفُسَهُمْthemselves ذَكَرُوا۟they rememberٱللَّهَAllahفَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟then ask forgivenessلِذُنُوبِهِمْfor their sins وَمَنand whoيَغْفِرُ(can) forgiveٱلذُّنُوبَthe sinsإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهُAllahوَلَمْAnd notيُصِرُّوا۟they persistعَلَىٰonمَاwhatفَعَلُوا۟they didوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow135
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose جَزَآؤُهُمtheir rewardمَّغْفِرَةٌ(is) forgivenessمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَجَنَّٰتٌand Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath itٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe riversخَٰلِدِينَabiding foreverفِيهَاin itوَنِعْمَAnd an excellentأَجْرُrewardٱلْعَٰمِلِينَ(for) the (righteous) workers136
قَدْVerilyخَلَتْpassedمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youسُنَنٌsituationsفَسِيرُوا۟then travelفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthفَٱنظُرُوا۟and seeكَيْفَhowكَانَwasعَٰقِبَةُ(the) endٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ(of) the deniers137
هَٰذَاThisبَيَانٌ(is) a declarationلِّلنَّاسِfor the peopleوَهُدًىand guidanceوَمَوْعِظَةٌand admonitionلِّلْمُتَّقِينَfor the God-fearing138
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَهِنُوا۟weakenوَلَاand (do) notتَحْزَنُوا۟grieveوَأَنتُمُand you (will be)ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ[the] superiorإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers139
إِنIfيَمْسَسْكُمْtouched youقَرْحٌa woundفَقَدْso certainlyمَسَّ(has) touchedٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleقَرْحٌwoundمِّثْلُهُۥlike itوَتِلْكَAnd thisٱلْأَيَّامُ[the] daysنُدَاوِلُهَاWe alternate themبَيْنَamongٱلنَّاسِthe peopleوَلِيَعْلَمَ[and] so that makes evidentٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]وَيَتَّخِذَand takeمِنكُمْfrom youشُهَدَآءَmartyrsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveٱلظَّٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoers140
وَلِيُمَحِّصَAnd so that may purifyٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believeوَيَمْحَقَand destroyٱلْكَٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers141
أَمْOrحَسِبْتُمْdo you thinkأَنthatتَدْخُلُوا۟you will enterٱلْجَنَّةَParadiseوَلَمَّاwhile has not yetيَعْلَمِmade evidentٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoجَٰهَدُوا۟strove hardمِنكُمْamong youوَيَعْلَمَand made evidentٱلصَّٰبِرِينَthe steadfast142
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyكُنتُمْyou used toتَمَنَّوْنَwishٱلْمَوْتَ(for) deathمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تَلْقَوْهُyou met itفَقَدْthen indeedرَأَيْتُمُوهُyou have seen itوَأَنتُمْwhile you (were)تَنظُرُونَlooking on143
وَمَاAnd notمُحَمَّدٌ(is) Muhammad إِلَّاexceptرَسُولٌa Messengerقَدْcertainlyخَلَتْpassed awayمِنfromقَبْلِهِbefore himٱلرُّسُلُ[the] (other) Messengersأَفَإِي۟نSo ifمَّاتَhe diedأَوْorقُتِلَis slainٱنقَلَبْتُمْwill you turn backعَلَىٰٓonأَعْقَٰبِكُمْyour heelsوَمَنAnd whoeverيَنقَلِبْturns backعَلَىٰonعَقِبَيْهِhis heelsفَلَنthen neverيَضُرَّwill he harmٱللَّهَAllahشَيْـًٔا(in) anythingوَسَيَجْزِىAnd will rewardٱللَّهُAllahٱلشَّٰكِرِينَthe grateful ones144
وَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَفْسٍfor a soulأَنthatتَمُوتَhe diesإِلَّاexceptبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahكِتَٰبًا(at a) decreeمُّؤَجَّلًاdeterminedوَمَنAnd whoeverيُرِدْdesiresثَوَابَrewardٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the world نُؤْتِهِۦWe will give himمِنْهَاthereofوَمَنand whoeverيُرِدْdesiresثَوَابَrewardٱلْءَاخِرَةِ(of) the HereafterنُؤْتِهِۦWe will give himمِنْهَاthereofوَسَنَجْزِىAnd We will rewardٱلشَّٰكِرِينَthe grateful ones145
وَكَأَيِّنAnd how manyمِّنfromنَّبِىٍّa Prophetقَٰتَلَfoughtمَعَهُۥwith himرِبِّيُّونَ(were) religious scholarsكَثِيرٌmanyفَمَاBut notوَهَنُوا۟they lost heartلِمَآfor whatأَصَابَهُمْbefell themفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَمَاand notضَعُفُوا۟they weakenedوَمَاand notٱسْتَكَانُوا۟they gave inوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُحِبُّlovesٱلصَّٰبِرِينَthe patient ones146
وَمَاAnd notكَانَwereقَوْلَهُمْtheir wordsإِلَّآexceptأَنthatقَالُوا۟they saidرَبَّنَاOur Lordٱغْفِرْforgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَإِسْرَافَنَاand our excessesفِىٓinأَمْرِنَاour affairsوَثَبِّتْand make firmأَقْدَامَنَاour feetوَٱنصُرْنَاand give us victoryعَلَىoverٱلْقَوْمِ[the people]ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers147
فَـَٔاتَىٰهُمُSo gave themٱللَّهُAllahثَوَابَrewardٱلدُّنْيَا(in) the worldوَحُسْنَand goodثَوَابِrewardٱلْءَاخِرَةِ(in) the HereafterوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers148
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believeإِنIfتُطِيعُوا۟you obeyٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveيَرُدُّوكُمْthey will turn you backعَلَىٰٓonأَعْقَٰبِكُمْyour heelsفَتَنقَلِبُوا۟then you will turn backخَٰسِرِينَ(as) losers149
بَلِNayٱللَّهُAllahمَوْلَىٰكُمْ(is) your Protectorوَهُوَand Heخَيْرُ(is the) bestٱلنَّٰصِرِينَ(of) the Helpers150
سَنُلْقِىWe will castفِىinقُلُوبِ(the) heartsٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveٱلرُّعْبَ[the] terrorبِمَآbecauseأَشْرَكُوا۟they associated partnersبِٱللَّهِwith AllahمَاwhatلَمْnotيُنَزِّلْHe sent downبِهِۦabout itسُلْطَٰنًاany authorityوَمَأْوَىٰهُمُand their refugeٱلنَّارُ(will be) the Fireوَبِئْسَand wretchedمَثْوَى(is the) abodeٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ[of] the wrongdoers151
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyصَدَقَكُمُfulfilled to youٱللَّهُAllahوَعْدَهُۥٓHis promiseإِذْwhenتَحُسُّونَهُمyou were killing themبِإِذْنِهِۦby His permissionحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَاwhenفَشِلْتُمْyou lost courageوَتَنَٰزَعْتُمْand you fell into disputeفِىconcerningٱلْأَمْرِthe orderوَعَصَيْتُمand you disobeyedمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَآ[what]أَرَىٰكُمHe (had) shown youمَّاwhatتُحِبُّونَyou loveمِنكُمAmong youمَّن(are some) whoيُرِيدُdesireٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَمِنكُمand among youمَّن(are some) whoيُرِيدُdesireٱلْءَاخِرَةَthe HereafterثُمَّThenصَرَفَكُمْHe diverted youعَنْهُمْfrom themلِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْso that He may test youوَلَقَدْAnd surelyعَفَاHe forgaveعَنكُمْyouوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahذُو(is the) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) Bountyعَلَىforٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers152
إِذْWhenتُصْعِدُونَyou were running uphillوَلَاand notتَلْوُۥنَcasting a glanceعَلَىٰٓonأَحَدٍanyoneوَٱلرَّسُولُwhile the Messengerيَدْعُوكُمْwas calling youفِىٓ[in]أُخْرَىٰكُمْ(from) behind youفَأَثَٰبَكُمْSo (He) repaid youغَمًّۢا(with) distressبِغَمٍّon distressلِّكَيْلَاso that notتَحْزَنُوا۟you grieveعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatفَاتَكُمْescaped youوَلَاand notمَآwhatأَصَٰبَكُمْ(had) befallen youوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahخَبِيرٌۢ(is) All-Awareبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do153
ثُمَّThenأَنزَلَHe sent downعَلَيْكُمupon youمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterٱلْغَمِّthe distressأَمَنَةًsecurity نُّعَاسًاslumberيَغْشَىٰovercomingطَآئِفَةًa groupمِّنكُمْof youوَطَآئِفَةٌwhile a groupقَدْcertainlyأَهَمَّتْهُمْworried [them]أَنفُسُهُمْ(about) themselvesيَظُنُّونَthinkingبِٱللَّهِabout Allahغَيْرَother thanٱلْحَقِّthe truth ظَنَّ(the) thoughtٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ(of) [the] ignoranceيَقُولُونَsayingهَلIs (there)لَّنَاfor usمِنَfromٱلْأَمْرِthe matterمِنanyشَىْءٍthingقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedٱلْأَمْرَthe matterكُلَّهُۥall (of) itلِلَّهِ(is) for AllahيُخْفُونَThey hideفِىٓinأَنفُسِهِمthemselvesمَّاwhatلَاnotيُبْدُونَthey revealلَكَto youيَقُولُونَThey sayلَوْIfكَانَwasلَنَاfor usمِنَfromٱلْأَمْرِthe matterشَىْءٌanythingمَّاnotقُتِلْنَاwe would have been killedهَٰهُنَاhereقُلSayلَّوْIfكُنتُمْyou wereفِىinبُيُوتِكُمْyour housesلَبَرَزَsurely (would have) come outٱلَّذِينَthose who كُتِبَwas decreedعَلَيْهِمُupon themٱلْقَتْلُ[the] deathإِلَىٰtowardsمَضَاجِعِهِمْtheir places of deathوَلِيَبْتَلِىَAnd that might testٱللَّهُAllahمَاwhatفِى(is) inصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsوَلِيُمَحِّصَand that He may purgeمَاwhatفِى(is) inقُلُوبِكُمْyour heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Awareبِذَاتِof whatٱلصُّدُورِ(is in) the breasts154
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoتَوَلَّوْا۟turned backمِنكُمْamong youيَوْمَ(on the) dayٱلْتَقَىmetٱلْجَمْعَانِthe two hosts إِنَّمَاonlyٱسْتَزَلَّهُمُmade them slipٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe Shaitaanبِبَعْضِfor someمَا(of) whatكَسَبُوا۟they (had) earnedوَلَقَدْAnd surelyعَفَاforgaveٱللَّهُAllahعَنْهُمْ[on] themإِنَّindeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingحَلِيمٌAll-Forbearing155
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لَا(Do) notتَكُونُوا۟beكَٱلَّذِينَlike those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedوَقَالُوا۟and they saidلِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْabout their brothersإِذَاwhenضَرَبُوا۟they traveledفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthأَوْorكَانُوا۟they wereغُزًّىfightingلَّوْIfكَانُوا۟they had beenعِندَنَاwith usمَاnotمَاتُوا۟they (would have) diedوَمَاand notقُتِلُوا۟they (would have) been killedلِيَجْعَلَSo makesٱللَّهُAllahذَٰلِكَthatحَسْرَةًa regretفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيُحْىِۦgives lifeوَيُمِيتُand causes deathوَٱللَّهُand Allahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seer156
وَلَئِنAnd ifقُتِلْتُمْyou are killedفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَوْorمُتُّمْdie[d] لَمَغْفِرَةٌcertainly forgivenessمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَرَحْمَةٌand Mercyخَيْرٌ(are) betterمِّمَّاthan whatيَجْمَعُونَthey accumulate157
وَلَئِنAnd ifمُّتُّمْyou dieأَوْorقُتِلْتُمْare killedلَإِلَىsurely toٱللَّهِAllahتُحْشَرُونَyou will be gathered158
فَبِمَاSo becauseرَحْمَةٍ(of) MercyمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahلِنتَyou dealt gentlyلَهُمْwith themوَلَوْAnd ifكُنتَyou had beenفَظًّاrudeغَلِيظَ(and) harshٱلْقَلْبِ(at) [the] heartلَٱنفَضُّوا۟surely they (would have) dispersedمِنْfromحَوْلِكَaround youفَٱعْفُThen pardonعَنْهُمْ[from] themوَٱسْتَغْفِرْand ask forgivenessلَهُمْfor themوَشَاوِرْهُمْand consult themفِىinٱلْأَمْرِthe matterفَإِذَاThen whenعَزَمْتَyou have decidedفَتَوَكَّلْthen put trustعَلَىonٱللَّهِAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَthe ones who put trust (in Him)159
إِنIfيَنصُرْكُمُhelps youٱللَّهُAllahفَلَاthen notغَالِبَ(can) overcomeلَكُمْ[for] youوَإِنand ifيَخْذُلْكُمْHe forsakes youفَمَنthen whoذَا(is)ٱلَّذِىthe one whoيَنصُرُكُمcan help youمِّنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦafter HimوَعَلَىAnd onٱللَّهِAllah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِlet put (their) trustٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers160
وَمَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَبِىٍّfor a Prophetأَنthatيَغُلَّhe defraudsوَمَنAnd whoeverيَغْلُلْdefraudsيَأْتِwill bringبِمَاwhatغَلَّhe had defraudedيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) ResurrectionثُمَّThenتُوَفَّىٰis repaid in fullكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍsoulمَّاwhatكَسَبَتْit earnedوَهُمْand theyلَا(will) notيُظْلَمُونَbe wronged161
أَفَمَنِSo is (the one) whoٱتَّبَعَpursuesرِضْوَٰنَ(the) pleasureٱللَّهِ(of) Allahكَمَنۢlike (the one) whoبَآءَdrawsبِسَخَطٍon (himself) wrathمِّنَofٱللَّهِAllahوَمَأْوَىٰهُand his abodeجَهَنَّمُ(is) hellوَبِئْسَand wretchedٱلْمَصِيرُ(is) the destination162
هُمْTheyدَرَجَٰتٌ(are in varying) degreesعِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahوَٱللَّهُand Allahبَصِيرٌۢ(is) All-Seerبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey do163
لَقَدْCertainlyمَنَّbestowed a FavorٱللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersإِذْasبَعَثَHe raisedفِيهِمْamong themرَسُولًاa Messengerمِّنْfromأَنفُسِهِمْthemselvesيَتْلُوا۟recitingعَلَيْهِمْto themءَايَٰتِهِۦHis Versesوَيُزَكِّيهِمْand purifying themوَيُعَلِّمُهُمُand teaching themٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْحِكْمَةَand the wisdomوَإِنalthoughكَانُوا۟they wereمِنfromقَبْلُbefore (that)لَفِىcertainly inضَلَٰلٍ(the) errorمُّبِينٍclear164
أَوَلَمَّآOr whenأَصَٰبَتْكُمstruck youمُّصِيبَةٌdisasterقَدْsurelyأَصَبْتُمyou (had) struck (them)مِّثْلَيْهَاtwice of itقُلْتُمْyou saidأَنَّىٰFrom whereهَٰذَا(is) thisقُلْSayهُوَItمِنْ(is)عِندِfromأَنفُسِكُمْyourselvesإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful165
وَمَآAnd whatأَصَٰبَكُمْstruck youيَوْمَ(on the) dayٱلْتَقَى(when) metٱلْجَمْعَانِthe two hostsفَبِإِذْنِ(was) by (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَلِيَعْلَمَand that He (might) make evidentٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers166
وَلِيَعْلَمَAnd that He (might) make evidentٱلَّذِينَthose whoنَافَقُوا۟(are) hypocritesوَقِيلَAnd it was saidلَهُمْto themتَعَالَوْا۟Comeقَٰتِلُوا۟fightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَوِorٱدْفَعُوا۟defendقَالُوا۟They saidلَوْIfنَعْلَمُwe knewقِتَالًاfightingلَّٱتَّبَعْنَٰكُمْcertainly we (would have) followed youهُمْThey لِلْكُفْرِto disbeliefيَوْمَئِذٍthat dayأَقْرَبُ(were) nearerمِنْهُمْthan [them]لِلْإِيمَٰنِto the faithيَقُولُونَsayingبِأَفْوَٰهِهِمwith their mouthsمَّاwhatلَيْسَwas notفِىinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahأَعْلَمُ(is) Most Knowingبِمَاof whatيَكْتُمُونَthey conceal167
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoقَالُوا۟saidلِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْabout their brothersوَقَعَدُوا۟while they satلَوْIfأَطَاعُونَاthey (had) obeyed usمَاnotقُتِلُوا۟they would have been killedقُلْSayفَٱدْرَءُوا۟Then avertعَنْfromأَنفُسِكُمُyourselvesٱلْمَوْتَ[the] deathإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful168
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoقُتِلُوا۟are killedفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَمْوَٰتًۢا(as) deadبَلْNayأَحْيَآءٌThey are aliveعِندَnearرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordيُرْزَقُونَthey are given provision169
فَرِحِينَRejoicingبِمَآin whatءَاتَىٰهُمُbestowed themٱللَّهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyوَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَand they receive good tidingsبِٱلَّذِينَabout those whoلَمْ(have) notيَلْحَقُوا۟yet joinedبِهِم[with] themمِّنْ[from]خَلْفِهِمْ(but are) left behind أَلَّاthat (there will be) noخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمْon themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَwill grieve170
يَسْتَبْشِرُونَThey receive good tidingsبِنِعْمَةٍof FavorمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَفَضْلٍand Bountyوَأَنَّand thatٱللَّهَAllahلَا(does) notيُضِيعُlet go wasteأَجْرَ(the) rewardٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believers171
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoٱسْتَجَابُوا۟respondedلِلَّهِto Allahوَٱلرَّسُولِand the Messengerمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَآwhatأَصَابَهُمُbefell them ٱلْقَرْحُthe injury لِلَّذِينَfor those whoأَحْسَنُوا۟did goodمِنْهُمْamong themوَٱتَّقَوْا۟and feared Allahأَجْرٌ(is) a reward عَظِيمٌgreat172
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoقَالَsaidلَهُمُto themٱلنَّاسُ[the people]إِنَّIndeedٱلنَّاسَthe peopleقَدْ(have) certainlyجَمَعُوا۟gatheredلَكُمْagainst youفَٱخْشَوْهُمْso fear themفَزَادَهُمْBut it increased themإِيمَٰنًا(in) faithوَقَالُوا۟and they saidحَسْبُنَاSufficient for usٱللَّهُ(is) Allahوَنِعْمَand (He is the) bestٱلْوَكِيلُ[the] Disposer of affairs173
فَٱنقَلَبُوا۟So they returnedبِنِعْمَةٍwith (the) FavorمِّنَofٱللَّهِAllahوَفَضْلٍand Bountyلَّمْnotيَمْسَسْهُمْtouched themسُوٓءٌany harmوَٱتَّبَعُوا۟And they followedرِضْوَٰنَ(the) pleasureٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱللَّهُand Allahذُو(is) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) Bountyعَظِيمٍgreat174
إِنَّمَا(It is) onlyذَٰلِكُمُthatٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe Shaitaanيُخَوِّفُfrightens (you)أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥ(of) his alliesفَلَاSo (do) notتَخَافُوهُمْfear themوَخَافُونِbut fear Meإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers175
وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْزُنكَgrieve youٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُسَٰرِعُونَhastenفِىin(to)ٱلْكُفْرِ[the] disbeliefإِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyلَنneverيَضُرُّوا۟will harmٱللَّهَAllahشَيْـًٔا(in) anythingيُرِيدُintendsٱللَّهُAllahأَلَّاthat notيَجْعَلَHe will setلَهُمْfor themحَظًّاany portionفِىinٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe HereafterوَلَهُمْAnd for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat176
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱشْتَرَوُا۟(have) purchasedٱلْكُفْرَ[the] disbeliefبِٱلْإِيمَٰنِwith the faithلَنneverيَضُرُّوا۟will they harmٱللَّهَAllahشَيْـًٔا(in) anythingوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful177
وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelievedأَنَّمَاthatنُمْلِىWe give respiteلَهُمْto themخَيْرٌ(is) goodلِّأَنفُسِهِمْfor themselvesإِنَّمَاOnlyنُمْلِىWe give respiteلَهُمْto themلِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟so that they may increaseإِثْمًا(in) sinsوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمُّهِينٌhumiliating178
مَّاNotكَانَisٱللَّهُAllahلِيَذَرَto leaveٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersعَلَىٰonمَآwhatأَنتُمْyou (are)عَلَيْهِin [it]حَتَّىٰuntilيَمِيزَHe separatesٱلْخَبِيثَthe evilمِنَfromٱلطَّيِّبِthe goodوَمَاAnd notكَانَisٱللَّهُAllahلِيُطْلِعَكُمْto inform youعَلَىaboutٱلْغَيْبِthe unseenوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butٱللَّهَAllahيَجْتَبِىchoosesمِنfromرُّسُلِهِۦHis MessengersمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsفَـَٔامِنُوا۟so believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَرُسُلِهِۦand His Messengersوَإِنand ifتُؤْمِنُوا۟you believeوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)فَلَكُمْthen for youأَجْرٌ(is a) rewardعَظِيمٌgreat179
وَلَاAnd (let) notيَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَبْخَلُونَwithholdبِمَآof whatءَاتَىٰهُمُ(has) given themٱللَّهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis Bountyهُوَ(that) itخَيْرًا(is) goodلَّهُمfor themبَلْNayهُوَitشَرٌّ(is) badلَّهُمْfor themسَيُطَوَّقُونَTheir necks will be encircledمَا(with) whatبَخِلُوا۟they withheldبِهِۦ[with it]يَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionوَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahمِيرَٰثُ(is the) heritageٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahبِمَاwith whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doخَبِيرٌ(is) All-Aware180
لَّقَدْCertainlyسَمِعَheardٱللَّهُAllahقَوْلَ(the) sayingٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoقَالُوٓا۟saidإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahفَقِيرٌ(is) poorوَنَحْنُwhile weأَغْنِيَآءُ(are) richسَنَكْتُبُWe will recordمَاwhatقَالُوا۟they saidوَقَتْلَهُمُand their killingٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithoutحَقٍّ(any) rightوَنَقُولُand We will sayذُوقُوا۟Tasteعَذَابَ(the) punishmentٱلْحَرِيقِ(of) the Burning Fire181
ذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseقَدَّمَتْ(of what) sent forthأَيْدِيكُمْyour handsوَأَنَّand thatٱللَّهَAllahلَيْسَis notبِظَلَّامٍunjustلِّلْعَبِيدِto (His) slaves182
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoقَالُوٓا۟saidإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَهِدَ(has) taken promiseإِلَيْنَآfrom usأَلَّاthat notنُؤْمِنَwe (should) believeلِرَسُولٍin a Messengerحَتَّىٰuntilيَأْتِيَنَاhe brings to usبِقُرْبَانٍa sacrifice تَأْكُلُهُconsumes itٱلنَّارُthe fireقُلْSayقَدْSurelyجَآءَكُمْcame to youرُسُلٌMessengersمِّنfromقَبْلِىbefore meبِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِwith the clear Signsوَبِٱلَّذِىand with whatقُلْتُمْyou speakفَلِمَSo whyقَتَلْتُمُوهُمْyou killed themإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful183
فَإِنThen ifكَذَّبُوكَthey reject youفَقَدْthen certainlyكُذِّبَwere rejectedرُسُلٌMessengersمِّنfromقَبْلِكَbefore youجَآءُو(who) cameبِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِwith the clear Signsوَٱلزُّبُرِand the Scripturesوَٱلْكِتَٰبِand the Book ٱلْمُنِيرِ[the] Enlightening184
كُلُّEveryنَفْسٍsoulذَآئِقَةُ(will) tasteٱلْمَوْتِ[the] deathوَإِنَّمَاand onlyتُوَفَّوْنَyou will be paid in fullأُجُورَكُمْyour rewardيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionفَمَنThen whoeverزُحْزِحَis drawn awayعَنِfromٱلنَّارِthe Fireوَأُدْخِلَand admittedٱلْجَنَّةَ(to) Paradiseفَقَدْthen surelyفَازَhe is successfulوَمَاAnd notٱلْحَيَوٰةُ(is) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَآ(of) the worldإِلَّاexceptمَتَٰعُenjoymentٱلْغُرُورِ(of) delusion185
لَتُبْلَوُنَّYou will certainly be testedفِىٓinأَمْوَٰلِكُمْyour wealthوَأَنفُسِكُمْand yourselvesوَلَتَسْمَعُنَّAnd you will certainly hearمِنَfromٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youوَمِنَand fromٱلَّذِينَthose whoأَشْرَكُوٓا۟associate partners with Allah أَذًىhurtful thingsكَثِيرًاmanyوَإِنand ifتَصْبِرُوا۟you are patientوَتَتَّقُوا۟and fear (Allah)فَإِنَّthen indeedذَٰلِكَthatمِنْ(is) ofعَزْمِthe mattersٱلْأُمُورِ(of) determination186
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذَtookٱللَّهُAllahمِيثَٰقَa Covenantٱلَّذِينَ(from) those whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَٰبَthe BookلَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥYou certainly make it clearلِلنَّاسِto the mankindوَلَاand (do) notتَكْتُمُونَهُۥconceal itفَنَبَذُوهُThen they threw itوَرَآءَbehindظُهُورِهِمْtheir backsوَٱشْتَرَوْا۟and they exchangedبِهِۦ[with] itثَمَنًا(for) a priceقَلِيلًاlittleفَبِئْسَAnd wretchedمَا(is) whatيَشْتَرُونَthey purchase187
لَا(Do) notتَحْسَبَنَّthinkٱلَّذِينَ(that) those whoيَفْرَحُونَrejoiceبِمَآin whatأَتَوا۟(they have) broughtوَّيُحِبُّونَand they loveأَنthatيُحْمَدُوا۟they be praisedبِمَاfor whatلَمْnotيَفْعَلُوا۟they do فَلَاso (do) notتَحْسَبَنَّهُمthink (that) theyبِمَفَازَةٍ(will) escapeمِّنَfromٱلْعَذَابِthe punishmentوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is a) punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful188
وَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahمُلْكُ(is the) dominionٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱللَّهُand Allahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful189
إِنَّIndeedفِىinخَلْقِ(the) creationٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱخْتِلَٰفِand (in the) alternationٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَٱلنَّهَارِand the dayلَءَايَٰتٍ(are) surely Signsلِّأُو۟لِىfor menٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ(of) understanding190
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَذْكُرُونَrememberٱللَّهَAllahقِيَٰمًاstandingوَقُعُودًاand sittingوَعَلَىٰand onجُنُوبِهِمْtheir sidesوَيَتَفَكَّرُونَand they reflectفِىonخَلْقِ(the) creationٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthرَبَّنَاOur LordمَاnotخَلَقْتَYou have createdهَٰذَاthisبَٰطِلًا(in) vainسُبْحَٰنَكَGlory be to Youفَقِنَاso save usعَذَابَ(from the) punishmentٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fire191
رَبَّنَآOur Lordإِنَّكَindeed [You]مَنwhomتُدْخِلِYou admitٱلنَّارَ(to) the Fireفَقَدْthen surelyأَخْزَيْتَهُۥYou (have) disgraced himوَمَاand notلِلظَّٰلِمِينَfor the wrongdoersمِنْ(are) anyأَنصَارٍhelpers192
رَّبَّنَآOur Lordإِنَّنَاindeed weسَمِعْنَا[we] heardمُنَادِيًاa callerيُنَادِىcallingلِلْإِيمَٰنِto the faithأَنْthatءَامِنُوا۟Believeبِرَبِّكُمْin your Lordفَـَٔامَنَّاso we have believedرَبَّنَاOur Lordفَٱغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاfor usذُنُوبَنَاour sinsوَكَفِّرْand removeعَنَّاfrom usسَيِّـَٔاتِنَاour evil deedsوَتَوَفَّنَاand cause us to dieمَعَwithٱلْأَبْرَارِthe righteous193
رَبَّنَاOur Lordوَءَاتِنَاgrant usمَاwhatوَعَدتَّنَاYou promised usعَلَىٰthroughرُسُلِكَYour Messengersوَلَاand (do) notتُخْزِنَاdisgrace usيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) [the] ResurrectionإِنَّكَIndeed, Youلَا(do) notتُخْلِفُbreakٱلْمِيعَادَthe promise194
فَٱسْتَجَابَThen respondedلَهُمْto themرَبُّهُمْtheir LordأَنِّىIndeed, Iلَآ(will) notأُضِيعُ(let go) wasteعَمَلَdeedsعَٰمِلٍ(of the) doerمِّنكُمamong youمِّن[from]ذَكَرٍ(whether) maleأَوْorأُنثَىٰfemaleبَعْضُكُمeach of youمِّنۢfromبَعْضٍ(the) otherفَٱلَّذِينَSo those whoهَاجَرُوا۟emigratedوَأُخْرِجُوا۟and were driven outمِنfromدِيَٰرِهِمْtheir homesوَأُوذُوا۟and were harmedفِىinسَبِيلِىMy wayوَقَٰتَلُوا۟and foughtوَقُتِلُوا۟and were killed لَأُكَفِّرَنَّsurely I (will) removeعَنْهُمْfrom themسَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْtheir evil deedsوَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْand surely I will admit themجَنَّٰتٍ(to) Gardensتَجْرِىflowingمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe rivers ثَوَابًاa rewardمِّنْfromعِندِ[near]ٱللَّهِAllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allah عِندَهُۥwith Himحُسْنُ(is the) bestٱلثَّوَابِreward195
لَا(Let) notيَغُرَّنَّكَdeceive youتَقَلُّبُ(the) movementٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedفِىinٱلْبِلَٰدِthe land196
مَتَٰعٌAn enjoymentقَلِيلٌlittleثُمَّthenمَأْوَىٰهُمْtheir abodeجَهَنَّمُ(is) hell وَبِئْسَ[and] a wretchedٱلْمِهَادُ[the] resting place197
لَٰكِنِButٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّقَوْا۟fearرَبَّهُمْtheir Lordلَهُمْfor themجَنَّٰتٌ(will be) Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe riversخَٰلِدِينَwill abide foreverفِيهَاin it نُزُلًاa hospitalityمِّنْfromعِندِ[near]ٱللَّهِAllahوَمَاAnd whatعِندَ(is) withٱللَّهِAllahخَيْرٌ(is) bestلِّلْأَبْرَارِfor the righteous198
وَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنْamongأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the Bookلَمَن(are those) whoيُؤْمِنُbelieveبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْكُمْto youوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْهِمْto them خَٰشِعِينَhumbly submissiveلِلَّهِto AllahلَاNotيَشْتَرُونَ(do) they exchangeبِـَٔايَٰتِ[with] (the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahثَمَنًا(for) a priceقَلِيلًاlittleأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseلَهُمْfor themأَجْرُهُمْtheir rewardعِندَ(is) withرَبِّهِمْtheir LordإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahسَرِيعُ(is) swiftٱلْحِسَابِ(in taking) the account199
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]ٱصْبِرُوا۟Be steadfastوَصَابِرُوا۟and [be] patientوَرَابِطُوا۟and [be] constantوَٱتَّقُوا۟and fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful200

وَءَاتُوا۟And giveٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰٓ(to) the orphansأَمْوَٰلَهُمْtheir wealthوَلَاand (do) notتَتَبَدَّلُوا۟exchangeٱلْخَبِيثَthe badبِٱلطَّيِّبِwith the goodوَلَاand (do) notتَأْكُلُوٓا۟consumeأَمْوَٰلَهُمْtheir wealthإِلَىٰٓwithأَمْوَٰلِكُمْyour wealthإِنَّهُۥIndeed, itكَانَisحُوبًاa sinكَبِيرًاgreat2
وَإِنْAnd ifخِفْتُمْyou fearأَلَّاthat notتُقْسِطُوا۟you will be able to do justiceفِىwithٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰthe orphansفَٱنكِحُوا۟then marryمَاwhatطَابَseems suitableلَكُمto youمِّنَfromٱلنِّسَآءِthe womenمَثْنَىٰtwoوَثُلَٰثَor threeوَرُبَٰعَor fourفَإِنْBut ifخِفْتُمْyou fearأَلَّاthat notتَعْدِلُوا۟you can do justiceفَوَٰحِدَةًthen (marry) oneأَوْorمَاwhatمَلَكَتْpossessesأَيْمَٰنُكُمْyour right handذَٰلِكَThatأَدْنَىٰٓ(is) more appropriateأَلَّاthat (may) notتَعُولُوا۟you oppress3
وَءَاتُوا۟And giveٱلنِّسَآءَthe womenصَدُقَٰتِهِنَّtheir dowerنِحْلَةًgraciouslyفَإِنBut ifطِبْنَthey remitلَكُمْto youعَنofشَىْءٍanythingمِّنْهُof itنَفْسًا(on their) ownفَكُلُوهُthen eat itهَنِيٓـًٔا(in) satisfactionمَّرِيٓـًٔا(and) ease4
وَلَاAnd (do) notتُؤْتُوا۟giveٱلسُّفَهَآءَthe foolishأَمْوَٰلَكُمُyour wealthٱلَّتِىwhichجَعَلَ(was) madeٱللَّهُ(by) Allahلَكُمْfor youقِيَٰمًاa means of supportوَٱرْزُقُوهُمْ(but) provide (for) themفِيهَاwith itوَٱكْسُوهُمْand clothe themوَقُولُوا۟and speakلَهُمْto themقَوْلًاwordsمَّعْرُوفًا(of) kindness5
وَٱبْتَلُوا۟And testٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰthe orphansحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَا[when]بَلَغُوا۟they reach[ed]ٱلنِّكَاحَ(the age of) marriageفَإِنْthen ifءَانَسْتُمyou perceiveمِّنْهُمْin themرُشْدًاsound judgementفَٱدْفَعُوٓا۟then deliverإِلَيْهِمْto themأَمْوَٰلَهُمْtheir wealthوَلَاAnd (do) notتَأْكُلُوهَآeat itإِسْرَافًاextravagantlyوَبِدَارًاand hastilyأَن(fearing) thatيَكْبَرُوا۟they will grow upوَمَنAnd whoeverكَانَisغَنِيًّاrichفَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْthen he should refrainوَمَنand whoeverكَانَisفَقِيرًاpoorفَلْيَأْكُلْthen let him eat (of it)بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair mannerفَإِذَاThen whenدَفَعْتُمْyou deliverإِلَيْهِمْto themأَمْوَٰلَهُمْtheir wealthفَأَشْهِدُوا۟then take witnessesعَلَيْهِمْon themوَكَفَىٰAnd is sufficientبِٱللَّهِAllahحَسِيبًا(as) a Reckoner6
لِّلرِّجَالِFor the menنَصِيبٌa portionمِّمَّاof whatتَرَكَ(is) leftٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ(by) the parentsوَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَand the near relativesوَلِلنِّسَآءِand for the womenنَصِيبٌa portionمِّمَّاof whatتَرَكَ(is) leftٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ(by) parentsوَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَand the near relativesمِمَّاof whatقَلَّ(is) littleمِنْهُof itأَوْorكَثُرَmuch نَصِيبًاa portionمَّفْرُوضًاobligatory7
وَإِذَاAnd whenحَضَرَpresentٱلْقِسْمَةَ(at) the (time of) divisionأُو۟لُوا۟(of)ٱلْقُرْبَىٰthe relativesوَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰand the orphansوَٱلْمَسَٰكِينُand the poorفَٱرْزُقُوهُمthen provide themمِّنْهُfrom itوَقُولُوا۟and speakلَهُمْto themقَوْلًاwordsمَّعْرُوفًا(of) kindness8
وَلْيَخْشَAnd let fear ٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَوْifتَرَكُوا۟they leftمِنْfromخَلْفِهِمْbehindذُرِّيَّةًoffspringضِعَٰفًاweakخَافُوا۟(and) they would have fearedعَلَيْهِمْabout themفَلْيَتَّقُوا۟So let them fearٱللَّهَAllahوَلْيَقُولُوا۟and let them speakقَوْلًاwordsسَدِيدًاappropriate9
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَأْكُلُونَconsumeأَمْوَٰلَwealthٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ(of) the orphansظُلْمًاwrongfullyإِنَّمَاonlyيَأْكُلُونَthey consumeفِىinبُطُونِهِمْtheir belliesنَارًاfireوَسَيَصْلَوْنَand they will be burnedسَعِيرًا(in) a Blazing Fire10
يُوصِيكُمُInstructs youٱللَّهُAllahفِىٓconcerningأَوْلَٰدِكُمْyour children لِلذَّكَرِfor the maleمِثْلُlikeحَظِّ(the) portionٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ(of) two femalesفَإِنBut ifكُنَّthere areنِسَآءً(only) womenفَوْقَmore (than)ٱثْنَتَيْنِtwoفَلَهُنَّthen for themثُلُثَاtwo thirdsمَا(of) whatتَرَكَhe leftوَإِنAnd ifكَانَتْ(there) isوَٰحِدَةً(only) oneفَلَهَاthen for herٱلنِّصْفُ(is) halfوَلِأَبَوَيْهِAnd for his parentsلِكُلِّfor eachوَٰحِدٍoneمِّنْهُمَاof themٱلسُّدُسُa sixthمِمَّاof whatتَرَكَ(is) leftإِنifكَانَisلَهُۥfor himوَلَدٌa childفَإِنBut ifلَّمْnotيَكُنisلَّهُۥfor himوَلَدٌany childوَوَرِثَهُۥٓand inherit[ed] himأَبَوَاهُhis parentsفَلِأُمِّهِthen for his motherٱلثُّلُثُ(is) one thirdفَإِنAnd ifكَانَareلَهُۥٓfor himإِخْوَةٌbrothers and sistersفَلِأُمِّهِthen for his motherٱلسُّدُسُ(is) the sixthمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterوَصِيَّةٍany willيُوصِىhe has madeبِهَآ[of which]أَوْorدَيْنٍany debtءَابَآؤُكُمْYour parentsوَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْand your children لَاnotتَدْرُونَyou knowأَيُّهُمْwhich of themأَقْرَبُ(is) nearerلَكُمْto youنَفْعًا(in) benefitفَرِيضَةًAn obligationمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisعَلِيمًاAll-KnowingحَكِيمًاAll-Wise11
وَلَكُمْAnd for youنِصْفُ(is) halfمَا(of) whatتَرَكَ(is) leftأَزْوَٰجُكُمْby your wivesإِنifلَّمْnotيَكُنisلَّهُنَّfor themوَلَدٌa childفَإِنBut ifكَانَisلَهُنَّfor themوَلَدٌa childفَلَكُمُthen for youٱلرُّبُعُ(is) the fourthمِمَّاof whatتَرَكْنَthey leftمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterوَصِيَّةٍany willيُوصِينَthey have madeبِهَآ[for which]أَوْorدَيْنٍany debtوَلَهُنَّAnd for themٱلرُّبُعُ(is) the fourthمِمَّاof whatتَرَكْتُمْyou leftإِنifلَّمْnotيَكُنisلَّكُمْfor youوَلَدٌa childفَإِنBut ifكَانَisلَكُمْfor youوَلَدٌa childفَلَهُنَّthen for themٱلثُّمُنُ(is) the eighthمِمَّاof whatتَرَكْتُمyou leftمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterوَصِيَّةٍany willتُوصُونَyou have madeبِهَآ[for which]أَوْorدَيْنٍany debtوَإِنAnd ifكَانَ[is]رَجُلٌa manيُورَثُ(whose wealth) is to be inheritedكَلَٰلَةً(has) no parent or childأَوِorٱمْرَأَةٌa womenوَلَهُۥٓand for himأَخٌ(is) a brotherأَوْorأُخْتٌa sisterفَلِكُلِّthen for eachوَٰحِدٍoneمِّنْهُمَاof (the) twoٱلسُّدُسُ(is) the sixthفَإِنBut ifكَانُوٓا۟they areأَكْثَرَmoreمِنthanذَٰلِكَthatفَهُمْthen theyشُرَكَآءُ(are) partnersفِىinٱلثُّلُثِthe thirdمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterوَصِيَّةٍany willيُوصَىٰwas madeبِهَآ[for which]أَوْorدَيْنٍany debtغَيْرَwithoutمُضَآرٍّ(being) harmfulوَصِيَّةًAn ordinanceمِّنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌ(is) All-KnowingحَلِيمٌAll-Forbearing12
تِلْكَTheseحُدُودُ(are the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَمَنand whoeverيُطِعِobeysٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His MessengerيُدْخِلْهُHe will admit himجَنَّٰتٍ(to) Gardensتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهَاunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe rivers خَٰلِدِينَ(will) abide foreverفِيهَاin itوَذَٰلِكَAnd thatٱلْفَوْزُ(is) the successٱلْعَظِيمُ[the] great13
وَمَنAnd whoeverيَعْصِdisobeysٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerوَيَتَعَدَّand transgressesحُدُودَهُۥHis limits يُدْخِلْهُHe will admit himنَارًا(to) Fireخَٰلِدًا(will) abide foreverفِيهَاin itوَلَهُۥAnd for himعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمُّهِينٌhumiliating14
وَٱلَّٰتِىAnd those whoيَأْتِينَcommitٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ[the] immoralityمِنfromنِّسَآئِكُمْyour womenفَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟then call to witnessعَلَيْهِنَّagainst themأَرْبَعَةًfourمِّنكُمْamong youفَإِنAnd ifشَهِدُوا۟they testifyفَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّthen confine themفِىinٱلْبُيُوتِtheir housesحَتَّىٰuntilيَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّcomes to themٱلْمَوْتُ[the] deathأَوْorيَجْعَلَmakesٱللَّهُAllahلَهُنَّfor themسَبِيلًاa way15
وَٱلَّذَانِAnd the two whoيَأْتِيَٰنِهَاcommit itمِنكُمْamong youفَـَٔاذُوهُمَاthen punish both of themفَإِنBut ifتَابَاthey repentوَأَصْلَحَاand correct themselvesفَأَعْرِضُوا۟then turn awayعَنْهُمَآfrom both of themإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisتَوَّابًاOft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًاMost-Merciful16
إِنَّمَاOnlyٱلتَّوْبَةُthe acceptance of repentanceعَلَىbyٱللَّهِAllahلِلَّذِينَ(is) for those whoيَعْمَلُونَdoٱلسُّوٓءَthe evilبِجَهَٰلَةٍin ignoranceثُمَّthenيَتُوبُونَthey repentمِنfromقَرِيبٍsoon afterفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThen thoseيَتُوبُwill have forgivenessٱللَّهُ(from) Allahعَلَيْهِمْupon themوَكَانَand isٱللَّهُAllahعَلِيمًاAll-KnowingحَكِيمًاAll-Wise17
وَلَيْسَتِAnd notٱلتَّوْبَةُ(is) the acceptance of repentanceلِلَّذِينَfor those whoيَعْمَلُونَdoٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِthe evil deedsحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَاwhenحَضَرَapproachesأَحَدَهُمُone of themٱلْمَوْتُ[the] deathقَالَhe saysإِنِّىIndeed Iتُبْتُrepentٱلْـَٰٔنَnowوَلَاand notٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَمُوتُونَdieوَهُمْwhile theyكُفَّارٌ(are) disbelieversأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose أَعْتَدْنَاWe have preparedلَهُمْfor themعَذَابًاa punishmentأَلِيمًاpainful18
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لَاNotيَحِلُّ(is) lawfulلَكُمْfor youأَنthatتَرِثُوا۟you inheritٱلنِّسَآءَthe womenكَرْهًا(by) forceوَلَاAnd notتَعْضُلُوهُنَّyou constraint themلِتَذْهَبُوا۟so that you may takeبِبَعْضِa partمَآ(of) whatءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّyou have given themإِلَّآexceptأَنthatيَأْتِينَthey commitبِفَٰحِشَةٍimmoralityمُّبَيِّنَةٍopenوَعَاشِرُوهُنَّAnd live with themبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin kindnessفَإِنBut ifكَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّyou dislike themفَعَسَىٰٓthen perhapsأَنthatتَكْرَهُوا۟you dislikeشَيْـًٔاa thingوَيَجْعَلَand has placedٱللَّهُAllahفِيهِin itخَيْرًاgoodكَثِيرًاmuch19
وَإِنْAnd ifأَرَدتُّمُyou intendٱسْتِبْدَالَreplacingزَوْجٍa wifeمَّكَانَ(in) placeزَوْجٍ(of) a wifeوَءَاتَيْتُمْand you have givenإِحْدَىٰهُنَّone of themقِنطَارًاheap (of gold)فَلَاthen (do) notتَأْخُذُوا۟take awayمِنْهُfrom itشَيْـًٔاanythingأَتَأْخُذُونَهُۥWould you take itبُهْتَٰنًا(by) slanderوَإِثْمًاand a sinمُّبِينًاopen20
وَكَيْفَAnd howتَأْخُذُونَهُۥcould you take itوَقَدْwhen surelyأَفْضَىٰhas gone بَعْضُكُمْone of youإِلَىٰtoبَعْضٍanotherوَأَخَذْنَand they have takenمِنكُمfrom youمِّيثَٰقًاcovenantغَلِيظًاstrong21
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَنكِحُوا۟marryمَاwhomنَكَحَmarriedءَابَآؤُكُمyour fathersمِّنَofٱلنِّسَآءِthe womenإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatقَدْhasسَلَفَpassed beforeإِنَّهُۥindeed itكَانَwasفَٰحِشَةًan immoralityوَمَقْتًاand hatefulوَسَآءَand (an) evilسَبِيلًاway22
حُرِّمَتْForbiddenعَلَيْكُمْto youأُمَّهَٰتُكُمْ(are) your mothersوَبَنَاتُكُمْand your daughtersوَأَخَوَٰتُكُمْand your sistersوَعَمَّٰتُكُمْand your father's sistersوَخَٰلَٰتُكُمْand your mother's sistersوَبَنَاتُand daughtersٱلْأَخِ(of) brothersوَبَنَاتُand daughtersٱلْأُخْتِ(of) sistersوَأُمَّهَٰتُكُمُand (the) mothersٱلَّٰتِىٓwhoأَرْضَعْنَكُمْnursed youوَأَخَوَٰتُكُمand your sistersمِّنَfromٱلرَّضَٰعَةِthe nursingوَأُمَّهَٰتُand mothersنِسَآئِكُمْ(of) your wivesوَرَبَٰٓئِبُكُمُand your step daughtersٱلَّٰتِىwhoفِى(are) inحُجُورِكُمyour guardianshipمِّنofنِّسَآئِكُمُyour womenٱلَّٰتِىwhomدَخَلْتُمyou had relationsبِهِنَّwith themفَإِنbut ifلَّمْnotتَكُونُوا۟you hadدَخَلْتُمrelationsبِهِنَّwith themفَلَاthen (there is) noجُنَاحَsinعَلَيْكُمْon youوَحَلَٰٓئِلُAnd wivesأَبْنَآئِكُمُ(of) your sonsٱلَّذِينَthose whoمِنْ(are) fromأَصْلَٰبِكُمْyour loinsوَأَنand thatتَجْمَعُوا۟you gather togetherبَيْنَ[between]ٱلْأُخْتَيْنِtwo sistersإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatقَدْhasسَلَفَpassed beforeإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahكَانَisغَفُورًاOft-ForgivingرَّحِيمًاMost-Merciful23
