سَيَقُولُWill sayٱلسُّفَهَآءُthe foolish onesمِنَfromٱلنَّاسِthe peopleمَاWhatوَلَّىٰهُمْ(has) turned themعَنfromقِبْلَتِهِمُtheir direction of prayerٱلَّتِىwhichكَانُوا۟they were used toعَلَيْهَا[on it]قُلSayلِّلَّهِFor Allahٱلْمَشْرِقُ(is) the eastوَٱلْمَغْرِبُand the westيَهْدِىHe guidesمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsإِلَىٰtoصِرَٰطٍa pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍstraight142
وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd thusجَعَلْنَٰكُمْWe made youأُمَّةًa communityوَسَطًا(of the) middle wayلِّتَكُونُوا۟so that you will beشُهَدَآءَwitnessesعَلَىoverٱلنَّاسِthe mankindوَيَكُونَand will beٱلرَّسُولُthe Messengerعَلَيْكُمْon youشَهِيدًاa witnessوَمَاAnd notجَعَلْنَاWe madeٱلْقِبْلَةَthe direction of prayerٱلَّتِىwhichكُنتَyou were used toعَلَيْهَآ[on it]إِلَّاexceptلِنَعْلَمَthat We make evidentمَن(he) whoيَتَّبِعُfollowsٱلرَّسُولَthe Messengerمِمَّنfrom (he) whoيَنقَلِبُturns backعَلَىٰonعَقِبَيْهِhis heelsوَإِنAnd indeedكَانَتْit wasلَكَبِيرَةًcertainly a great (test)إِلَّاexceptعَلَىforٱلَّذِينَthose whomهَدَىguidedٱللَّهُ(by) AllahوَمَاAnd notكَانَwillٱللَّهُAllahلِيُضِيعَlet go wasteإِيمَٰنَكُمْyour faithإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahبِٱلنَّاسِ(is) to [the] mankindلَرَءُوفٌFull of KindnessرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful143
قَدْIndeedنَرَىٰWe seeتَقَلُّبَ(the) turningوَجْهِكَ(of) your faceفِىtowardsٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavenفَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَSo We will surely turn youقِبْلَةً(to the) direction of prayerتَرْضَىٰهَاyou will be pleased withفَوَلِّSo turnوَجْهَكَyour faceشَطْرَtowards the directionٱلْمَسْجِدِ(of) Al-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-Haraamوَحَيْثُand whereverمَاthatكُنتُمْyou areفَوَلُّوا۟[so] turnوُجُوهَكُمْyour facesشَطْرَهُۥ(in) its directionوَإِنَّAnd indeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookلَيَعْلَمُونَsurely knowأَنَّهُthat itٱلْحَقُّ(is) the truthمِنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir LordوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُ(is) Allahبِغَٰفِلٍunawareعَمَّاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey do144
وَلَئِنْAnd even ifأَتَيْتَyou comeٱلَّذِينَ(to) those whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookبِكُلِّwith allءَايَةٍ(the) signsمَّاnotتَبِعُوا۟they would followقِبْلَتَكَyour direction of prayerوَمَآand notأَنتَ(will) you (be)بِتَابِعٍa followerقِبْلَتَهُمْ(of) their direction of prayerوَمَاAnd notبَعْضُهُمsome of themبِتَابِعٍ(are) followersقِبْلَةَ(of the) direction of prayerبَعْضٍ(of each) otherوَلَئِنِAnd ifٱتَّبَعْتَyou followedأَهْوَآءَهُمtheir desiresمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]جَآءَكَcame to youمِنَofٱلْعِلْمِthe knowledgeإِنَّكَindeed, youإِذًا(would) thenلَّمِنَ(be) surely amongٱلظَّٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoers145
ٱلَّذِينَ(To) those whomءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُWe gave [them]ٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookيَعْرِفُونَهُۥthey recognize itكَمَاlikeيَعْرِفُونَthey recognizeأَبْنَآءَهُمْtheir sonsوَإِنَّAnd indeedفَرِيقًاa groupمِّنْهُمْof themلَيَكْتُمُونَsurely they concealٱلْحَقَّthe Truthوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow146
ٱلْحَقُّThe Truthمِن(is) fromرَّبِّكَyour Lordفَلَاso (do) notتَكُونَنَّbeمِنَamongٱلْمُمْتَرِينَthe doubters147
وَلِكُلٍّAnd for everyoneوِجْهَةٌ(is) a direction هُوَheمُوَلِّيهَاturns towards itفَٱسْتَبِقُوا۟so raceٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ(to) the goodأَيْنَWhereverمَاthatتَكُونُوا۟you will beيَأْتِwill bringبِكُمُyouٱللَّهُ(by) AllahجَمِيعًاtogetherإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful148
وَمِنْAnd fromحَيْثُwhereverخَرَجْتَyou start forthفَوَلِّ[so] turnوَجْهَكَyour faceشَطْرَ(in the) directionٱلْمَسْجِدِ(of) Al-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-HaraamوَإِنَّهُۥAnd indeed, itلَلْحَقُّ(is) surely the truthمِنfromرَّبِّكَyour LordوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُ(is) Allahبِغَٰفِلٍunawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do149
وَمِنْAnd fromحَيْثُwhereverخَرَجْتَyou start forthفَوَلِّ[so] turnوَجْهَكَyour faceشَطْرَ(in the) directionٱلْمَسْجِدِ(of) Al-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-HaraamوَحَيْثُAnd whereverمَاthatكُنتُمْyou (all) areفَوَلُّوا۟[so] turnوُجُوهَكُمْyour facesشَطْرَهُۥ(in) its directionلِئَلَّاso that notيَكُونَwill beلِلنَّاسِfor the peopleعَلَيْكُمْagainst youحُجَّةٌany argumentإِلَّاexceptٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوا۟wrongedمِنْهُمْamong themفَلَاso (do) notتَخْشَوْهُمْfear themوَٱخْشَوْنِىbut fear MeوَلِأُتِمَّAnd that I completeنِعْمَتِىMy favorعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَلَعَلَّكُمْ[and] so that you mayتَهْتَدُونَ(be) guided150
كَمَآAsأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentفِيكُمْamong youرَسُولًاa Messengerمِّنكُمْfrom youيَتْلُوا۟(who) recitesعَلَيْكُمْto youءَايَٰتِنَاOur versesوَيُزَكِّيكُمْand purifies youوَيُعَلِّمُكُمُand teaches youٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْحِكْمَةَand the wisdomوَيُعَلِّمُكُمand teaches youمَّاwhatلَمْnotتَكُونُوا۟you wereتَعْلَمُونَknowing151
فَٱذْكُرُونِىٓSo remember MeأَذْكُرْكُمْI will remember youوَٱشْكُرُوا۟and be gratefulلِىto Meوَلَاand (do) notتَكْفُرُونِ(be) ungrateful to Me152
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟Seek helpبِٱلصَّبْرِthrough patienceوَٱلصَّلَوٰةِand the prayerإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahمَعَ(is) withٱلصَّٰبِرِينَthe patient ones153
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقُولُوا۟sayلِمَنfor (the ones) whoيُقْتَلُare slainفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَمْوَٰتٌۢ(They are) deadبَلْNayأَحْيَآءٌ(they are) aliveوَلَٰكِن[and] butلَّاyou (do) notتَشْعُرُونَperceive154
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمAnd surely We will test youبِشَىْءٍwith somethingمِّنَofٱلْخَوْفِ[the] fearوَٱلْجُوعِand [the] hungerوَنَقْصٍand lossمِّنَofٱلْأَمْوَٰلِ[the] wealthوَٱلْأَنفُسِand [the] livesوَٱلثَّمَرَٰتِand [the] fruitsوَبَشِّرِbut give good newsٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ(to) the patient ones155
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoإِذَآwhenأَصَٰبَتْهُمstrikes themمُّصِيبَةٌa misfortuneقَالُوٓا۟they sayإِنَّاIndeed, weلِلَّهِbelong to Allahوَإِنَّآand indeed weإِلَيْهِtowards Himرَٰجِعُونَwill return156
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseعَلَيْهِمْon themصَلَوَٰتٌ(are) blessingsمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَرَحْمَةٌand Mercyوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَAnd thoseهُمُ[they]ٱلْمُهْتَدُونَ(are) the guided ones157
إِنَّIndeedٱلصَّفَاthe Safaوَٱلْمَرْوَةَand the Marwahمِن(are) fromشَعَآئِرِ(the) symbolsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahفَمَنْSo whoeverحَجَّperforms Hajjٱلْبَيْتَ(of) the Houseأَوِorٱعْتَمَرَperforms Umrahفَلَاso noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْهِon himأَنthatيَطَّوَّفَhe walksبِهِمَاbetween [both of] themوَمَنAnd whoeverتَطَوَّعَvoluntarily doesخَيْرًاgoodفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahشَاكِرٌ(is) All-AppreciativeعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing158
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَكْتُمُونَconcealمَآwhatأَنزَلْنَاWe revealedمِنَofٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِthe clear proofsوَٱلْهُدَىٰand the Guidanceمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]بَيَّنَّٰهُWe made clearلِلنَّاسِto the peopleفِىinٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Book أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseيَلْعَنُهُمُcurses themٱللَّهُAllahوَيَلْعَنُهُمُand curse themٱللَّٰعِنُونَthe ones who curse159
إِلَّاExceptٱلَّذِينَthoseتَابُوا۟who repent[ed]وَأَصْلَحُوا۟and reform[ed]وَبَيَّنُوا۟and openly declar[ed]فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThen thoseأَتُوبُI will accept repentanceعَلَيْهِمْfrom themوَأَنَاand I (am)ٱلتَّوَّابُthe Acceptor of Repentanceٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful160
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]وَمَاتُوا۟and die[d]وَهُمْwhile theyكُفَّارٌ(were) disbelieversأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseعَلَيْهِمْon themلَعْنَةُ(is the) curseٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِand the Angelsوَٱلنَّاسِand the mankindأَجْمَعِينَall together161
خَٰلِدِينَ(Will) abide foreverفِيهَاin itلَاNotيُخَفَّفُwill be lightenedعَنْهُمُfor themٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيُنظَرُونَwill be reprieved162
وَإِلَٰهُكُمْAnd your Godإِلَٰهٌ(is) Godوَٰحِدٌone (only)لَّآ(there is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimٱلرَّحْمَٰنُthe Most Graciousٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful163
إِنَّIndeedفِىinخَلْقِ(the) creationٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَٱخْتِلَٰفِand alternationٱلَّيْلِof the nightوَٱلنَّهَارِand the dayوَٱلْفُلْكِand the shipsٱلَّتِىwhichتَجْرِىsailفِىinٱلْبَحْرِthe seaبِمَاwith whatيَنفَعُbenefitsٱلنَّاسَ[the] peopleوَمَآand whatأَنزَلَ(has) sent downٱللَّهُAllahمِنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyمِن[of]مَّآءٍwaterفَأَحْيَاgiving lifeبِهِtherebyٱلْأَرْضَ(to) the earthبَعْدَafterمَوْتِهَاits deathوَبَثَّand dispersingفِيهَاthereinمِن[of]كُلِّeveryدَآبَّةٍmoving creatureوَتَصْرِيفِand directingٱلرِّيَٰحِ(of) the windsوَٱلسَّحَابِand the cloudsٱلْمُسَخَّرِ[the] controlledبَيْنَbetweenٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthلَءَايَٰتٍsurely (are) Signsلِّقَوْمٍfor a peopleيَعْقِلُونَwho use their intellect164
وَمِنَAnd amongٱلنَّاسِthe mankindمَنwhoيَتَّخِذُtakesمِنfromدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahأَندَادًاequalsيُحِبُّونَهُمْThey love themكَحُبِّas (they should) loveٱللَّهِAllahوَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoءَامَنُوٓا۟believe[d]أَشَدُّ(are) strongerحُبًّا(in) loveلِّلَّهِfor AllahوَلَوْAnd ifيَرَىwould seeٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوٓا۟wrongedإِذْwhenيَرَوْنَthey will seeٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentأَنَّthatٱلْقُوَّةَthe powerلِلَّهِ(belongs) to Allahجَمِيعًاallوَأَنَّand [that]ٱللَّهَAllahشَدِيدُ(is) severeٱلْعَذَابِ(in) [the] punishment165
إِذْWhenتَبَرَّأَwill disownٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتُّبِعُوا۟were followedمِنَ[from]ٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّبَعُوا۟followedوَرَأَوُا۟and they will seeٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentوَتَقَطَّعَتْ[and] will be cut offبِهِمُfor themٱلْأَسْبَابُthe relations166
وَقَالَAnd saidٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّبَعُوا۟followedلَوْ(Only) ifأَنَّ[that]لَنَاfor usكَرَّةًa returnفَنَتَبَرَّأَthen we will disownمِنْهُمْ[from] themكَمَاasتَبَرَّءُوا۟they disownمِنَّا[from] usكَذَٰلِكَThusيُرِيهِمُwill show themٱللَّهُAllahأَعْمَٰلَهُمْtheir deedsحَسَرَٰتٍ(as) regretsعَلَيْهِمْfor themوَمَاAnd notهُمtheyبِخَٰرِجِينَwill come outمِنَfromٱلنَّارِthe Fire167
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاOٱلنَّاسُmankindكُلُوا۟Eatمِمَّاof whatفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِthe earthحَلَٰلًاlawfulطَيِّبًا(and) goodوَلَاAnd (do) notتَتَّبِعُوا۟followخُطُوَٰتِ(the) footsteps (of)ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِthe ShaitaanإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heلَكُمْ(is) to youعَدُوٌّan enemyمُّبِينٌclear168
إِنَّمَاOnlyيَأْمُرُكُمhe commands youبِٱلسُّوٓءِto (do) the evilوَٱلْفَحْشَآءِand the shamefulوَأَنand thatتَقُولُوا۟you sayعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَyou know169
وَإِذَاAnd whenقِيلَit is saidلَهُمُto themٱتَّبِعُوا۟Followمَآwhatأَنزَلَhas revealedٱللَّهُAllahقَالُوا۟they saidبَلْNayنَتَّبِعُwe followمَآwhatأَلْفَيْنَاwe foundعَلَيْهِ[on it]ءَابَآءَنَآour forefathers (following)أَوَلَوْEven thoughكَانَ[were]ءَابَآؤُهُمْtheir forefathersلَا(did) notيَعْقِلُونَunderstandشَيْـًٔاanythingوَلَاand notيَهْتَدُونَwere they guided170
وَمَثَلُAnd (the) exampleٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]كَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) exampleٱلَّذِى(of) the one whoيَنْعِقُshoutsبِمَاat whatلَاnotيَسْمَعُ(does) hearإِلَّاexceptدُعَآءًcallsوَنِدَآءًand cries صُمٌّۢdeafبُكْمٌdumbعُمْىٌ(and) blindفَهُمْ[so] theyلَا(do) notيَعْقِلُونَunderstand171
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]كُلُوا۟Eatمِنfromطَيِّبَٰتِ(the) goodمَا(of) whatرَزَقْنَٰكُمْWe have provided youوَٱشْكُرُوا۟and be gratefulلِلَّهِto Allahإِنifكُنتُمْyouإِيَّاهُaloneتَعْبُدُونَworship Him172
إِنَّمَاOnlyحَرَّمَHe has forbiddenعَلَيْكُمُto youٱلْمَيْتَةَthe dead animalsوَٱلدَّمَand [the] bloodوَلَحْمَand fleshٱلْخِنزِيرِ(of) swineوَمَآand whatأُهِلَّhas been dedicatedبِهِۦ[with it]لِغَيْرِto other thanٱللَّهِAllahفَمَنِSo whoeverٱضْطُرَّ(is) forced by necessityغَيْرَwithoutبَاغٍ(being) disobedientوَلَاand notعَادٍtransgressorفَلَآthen noإِثْمَsinعَلَيْهِon himإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful173
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَكْتُمُونَconcealمَآwhatأَنزَلَ(has) revealedٱللَّهُAllah (has)مِنَofٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Bookوَيَشْتَرُونَand they purchaseبِهِۦthere withثَمَنًاa gainقَلِيلًاlittleأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseمَاnotيَأْكُلُونَthey eatفِىinبُطُونِهِمْtheir belliesإِلَّاexceptٱلنَّارَthe FireوَلَاAnd notيُكَلِّمُهُمُwill speak to themٱللَّهُAllahيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) [the] Judgmentوَلَاand notيُزَكِّيهِمْwill He purify themوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful174
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseٱلَّذِينَ(are) they whoٱشْتَرَوُا۟purchase[d]ٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ[the] astrayingبِٱلْهُدَىٰfor [the] Guidanceوَٱلْعَذَابَand [the] punishmentبِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِfor [the] forgivenessفَمَآSo what (is)أَصْبَرَهُمْtheir enduranceعَلَىonٱلنَّارِthe Fire175
ذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّ(is) becauseٱللَّهَAllahنَزَّلَrevealedٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookبِٱلْحَقِّwith [the] TruthوَإِنَّAnd indeedٱلَّذِينَthoseٱخْتَلَفُوا۟who differedفِىinٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Bookلَفِى(are) surely inشِقَاقٍۢschismبَعِيدٍfar176
لَّيْسَIt is notٱلْبِرَّ[the] righteousnessأَنthatتُوَلُّوا۟you turnوُجُوهَكُمْyour facesقِبَلَtowardsٱلْمَشْرِقِthe eastوَٱلْمَغْرِبِand the westوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butٱلْبِرَّthe righteous[ness]مَنْ(is he) whoءَامَنَbelievesبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِ[the] Lastوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِand the Angelsوَٱلْكِتَٰبِand the Bookوَٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَand the Prophetsوَءَاتَىand givesٱلْمَالَthe wealthعَلَىٰinحُبِّهِۦspite of his love (for it)ذَوِى(to) thoseٱلْقُرْبَىٰ(of) the near relativesوَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰand the orphansوَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَand the needyوَٱبْنَand (of)ٱلسَّبِيلِthe wayfarerوَٱلسَّآئِلِينَand those who askوَفِىand inٱلرِّقَابِfreeing the necks (slaves)وَأَقَامَand (who) establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَءَاتَىand giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَthe zakahوَٱلْمُوفُونَand those who fulfillبِعَهْدِهِمْtheir covenantإِذَاwhenعَٰهَدُوا۟they make itوَٱلصَّٰبِرِينَand those who are patientفِىinٱلْبَأْسَآءِ[the] sufferingوَٱلضَّرَّآءِand [the] hardshipوَحِينَand (the) timeٱلْبَأْسِ(of) [the] stressأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseٱلَّذِينَ(are) the ones whoصَدَقُوا۟are trueوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَand thoseهُمُ[they]ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ(are) the righteous177
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]كُتِبَPrescribedعَلَيْكُمُfor youٱلْقِصَاصُ(is) the legal retributionفِىinٱلْقَتْلَى(the matter of) the murderedٱلْحُرُّthe freemanبِٱلْحُرِّfor the freemanوَٱلْعَبْدُand the slaveبِٱلْعَبْدِfor the slaveوَٱلْأُنثَىٰand the femaleبِٱلْأُنثَىٰfor the femaleفَمَنْBut whoeverعُفِىَis pardonedلَهُۥ[for it]مِنْfromأَخِيهِhis brotherشَىْءٌanythingفَٱتِّبَاعٌۢthen follows upبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِwith suitableوَأَدَآءٌ[and] paymentإِلَيْهِto himبِإِحْسَٰنٍwith kindnessذَٰلِكَThat (is)تَخْفِيفٌa concessionمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَرَحْمَةٌand mercyفَمَنِThen whoeverٱعْتَدَىٰtransgressesبَعْدَafterذَٰلِكَthatفَلَهُۥthen for himعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful178
وَلَكُمْAnd for youفِىinٱلْقِصَاصِthe legal retributionحَيَوٰةٌ(is) lifeيَٰٓأُو۟لِىO menٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ(of) understandingلَعَلَّكُمْSo that you mayتَتَّقُونَ(become) righteous179
كُتِبَPrescribedعَلَيْكُمْfor youإِذَاwhenحَضَرَapproachesأَحَدَكُمُany of youٱلْمَوْتُ[the] deathإِنifتَرَكَhe leavesخَيْرًاgoodٱلْوَصِيَّةُ(making) the willلِلْوَٰلِدَيْنِfor the parentsوَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَand the near relativesبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِwith due fairnessحَقًّاa dutyعَلَىonٱلْمُتَّقِينَthe righteous ones180
فَمَنۢThen whoeverبَدَّلَهُۥchanges itبَعْدَمَاafter whatسَمِعَهُۥhe (has) heard [it]فَإِنَّمَآso onlyإِثْمُهُۥits sinعَلَى(would be) onٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُبَدِّلُونَهُۥٓalter itإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing181
فَمَنْBut whoeverخَافَfearsمِنfromمُّوصٍ(the) testatorجَنَفًا(any) errorأَوْorإِثْمًاsinفَأَصْلَحَthen reconcilesبَيْنَهُمْbetween themفَلَآthen (there is) noإِثْمَsinعَلَيْهِon himإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌAll-Merciful182
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]كُتِبَIs prescribedعَلَيْكُمُfor youٱلصِّيَامُ[the] fastingكَمَاasكُتِبَwas prescribedعَلَىtoٱلَّذِينَthoseمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَتَّقُونَ(become) righteous183
أَيَّامًا(Fasting for) daysمَّعْدُودَٰتٍnumberedفَمَنSo whoeverكَانَisمِنكُمamong youمَّرِيضًاsickأَوْorعَلَىٰonسَفَرٍa journeyفَعِدَّةٌthen a prescribed numberمِّنْofأَيَّامٍdaysأُخَرَotherوَعَلَىAnd onٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُطِيقُونَهُۥcan afford itفِدْيَةٌa ransomطَعَامُ(of) feedingمِسْكِينٍa poorفَمَنAnd whoeverتَطَوَّعَvolunteersخَيْرًاgoodفَهُوَthen itخَيْرٌ(is) betterلَّهُۥfor himوَأَنAnd toتَصُومُوا۟fastخَيْرٌ(is) betterلَّكُمْfor youإِنifكُنتُمْyouتَعْلَمُونَknow184
شَهْرُMonthرَمَضَانَ(of) Ramadhaanٱلَّذِىٓ(is) thatأُنزِلَwas revealedفِيهِthereinٱلْقُرْءَانُthe Quranهُدًىa Guidanceلِّلنَّاسِfor mankindوَبَيِّنَٰتٍand clear proofsمِّنَofٱلْهُدَىٰ[the] Guidanceوَٱلْفُرْقَانِand the CriterionفَمَنSo whoeverشَهِدَwitnessesمِنكُمُamong youٱلشَّهْرَthe monthفَلْيَصُمْهُthen he should fast in itوَمَنand whoeverكَانَisمَرِيضًاsickأَوْorعَلَىٰonسَفَرٍa journeyفَعِدَّةٌthen prescribed number (should be made up)مِّنْfromأَيَّامٍdaysأُخَرَotherيُرِيدُIntendsٱللَّهُAllahبِكُمُfor youٱلْيُسْرَ[the] easeوَلَاand notيُرِيدُintendsبِكُمُfor youٱلْعُسْرَ[the] hardshipوَلِتُكْمِلُوا۟so that you completeٱلْعِدَّةَthe prescribed periodوَلِتُكَبِّرُوا۟and that you magnifyٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰforمَا[what]هَدَىٰكُمْHe guided youوَلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) grateful185
وَإِذَاAnd whenسَأَلَكَask youعِبَادِىMy servantsعَنِّىabout Meفَإِنِّىthen indeed I amقَرِيبٌnearأُجِيبُI respondدَعْوَةَ(to the) invocationٱلدَّاعِ(of) the supplicantإِذَاwhenدَعَانِhe calls Meفَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟So let them respondلِىto Meوَلْيُؤْمِنُوا۟and let them believeبِىin Meلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَرْشُدُونَ(be) led aright186
أُحِلَّPermittedلَكُمْfor youلَيْلَةَ(in the) nightsٱلصِّيَامِ(of) fastingٱلرَّفَثُ(is) the approachإِلَىٰtoنِسَآئِكُمْyour wivesهُنَّTheyلِبَاسٌ(are) garmentsلَّكُمْfor youوَأَنتُمْand youلِبَاسٌ(are) garmentsلَّهُنَّfor themعَلِمَKnowsٱللَّهُAllahأَنَّكُمْthat youكُنتُمْused toتَخْتَانُونَdeceiveأَنفُسَكُمْyourselvesفَتَابَso He turnedعَلَيْكُمْtowards youوَعَفَاand He forgaveعَنكُمْ[on] youفَٱلْـَٰٔنَSo nowبَٰشِرُوهُنَّhave relations with themوَٱبْتَغُوا۟and seekمَاwhatكَتَبَhas ordainedٱللَّهُAllahلَكُمْfor youوَكُلُوا۟And eatوَٱشْرَبُوا۟and drinkحَتَّىٰuntilيَتَبَيَّنَbecomes distinctلَكُمُto youٱلْخَيْطُthe threadٱلْأَبْيَضُ[the] whiteمِنَfromٱلْخَيْطِthe threadٱلْأَسْوَدِ[the] blackمِنَofٱلْفَجْرِ[the] dawnثُمَّThenأَتِمُّوا۟completeٱلصِّيَامَthe fastإِلَىtillٱلَّيْلِthe nightوَلَاAnd (do) notتُبَٰشِرُوهُنَّhave relations with themوَأَنتُمْwhile youعَٰكِفُونَ(are) secludedفِىinٱلْمَسَٰجِدِthe masajidتِلْكَTheseحُدُودُ(are the) limitsٱللَّهِ(set by) Allahفَلَاso (do) notتَقْرَبُوهَاapproach themكَذَٰلِكَThusيُبَيِّنُmakes clearٱللَّهُAllahءَايَٰتِهِۦHis versesلِلنَّاسِfor [the] peopleلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَتَّقُونَ(become) righteous187
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَأْكُلُوٓا۟eatأَمْوَٰلَكُمyour propertiesبَيْنَكُمamong yourselvesبِٱلْبَٰطِلِwrongfullyوَتُدْلُوا۟and presentبِهَآ[with] itإِلَىtoٱلْحُكَّامِthe authoritiesلِتَأْكُلُوا۟so that you may eatفَرِيقًاa portionمِّنْfromأَمْوَٰلِ(the) wealthٱلنَّاسِ(of) the peopleبِٱلْإِثْمِsinfullyوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَعْلَمُونَknow188
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youعَنِaboutٱلْأَهِلَّةِthe new moonsقُلْSayهِىَTheyمَوَٰقِيتُ(are) indicators of periodsلِلنَّاسِfor the peopleوَٱلْحَجِّand (for) the HajjوَلَيْسَAnd it is notٱلْبِرُّ[the] righteousnessبِأَنthatتَأْتُوا۟you comeٱلْبُيُوتَ(to) the housesمِنfromظُهُورِهَاtheir backsوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butٱلْبِرَّ[the] righteousمَنِ(is one) whoٱتَّقَىٰfears (Allah)وَأْتُوا۟And comeٱلْبُيُوتَ(to) the housesمِنْfromأَبْوَٰبِهَاtheir doorsوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُفْلِحُونَ(be) successful189
وَقَٰتِلُوا۟And fightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُقَٰتِلُونَكُمْfight youوَلَاand (do) notتَعْتَدُوٓا۟transgressإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّlikeٱلْمُعْتَدِينَthe transgressors190
وَٱقْتُلُوهُمْAnd kill themحَيْثُwhereverثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْyou find themوَأَخْرِجُوهُمand drive them outمِّنْfromحَيْثُwhereverأَخْرَجُوكُمْthey drove you outوَٱلْفِتْنَةُand [the] oppressionأَشَدُّ(is) worseمِنَthanٱلْقَتْلِ[the] killingوَلَاAnd (do) notتُقَٰتِلُوهُمْfight themعِندَnearٱلْمَسْجِدِAl-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-Haraamحَتَّىٰuntilيُقَٰتِلُوكُمْthey fight youفِيهِin itفَإِنThen ifقَٰتَلُوكُمْthey fight youفَٱقْتُلُوهُمْthen kill themكَذَٰلِكَSuchجَزَآءُ(is the) rewardٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ(of) the disbelievers191
فَإِنِThen ifٱنتَهَوْا۟they ceaseفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful192
وَقَٰتِلُوهُمْAnd fight (against) themحَتَّىٰuntilلَاnotتَكُونَ(there) isفِتْنَةٌoppressionوَيَكُونَand becomesٱلدِّينُthe religionلِلَّهِfor AllahفَإِنِThen ifٱنتَهَوْا۟they ceaseفَلَاthen (let there be) noعُدْوَٰنَhostilityإِلَّاexceptعَلَىagainstٱلظَّٰلِمِينَthe oppressors193
ٱلشَّهْرُThe monthٱلْحَرَامُ[the] sacredبِٱلشَّهْرِ(is) for the monthٱلْحَرَامِ[the] sacredوَٱلْحُرُمَٰتُand for all the violationsقِصَاصٌ(is) legal retributionفَمَنِThen whoeverٱعْتَدَىٰtransgressedعَلَيْكُمْupon youفَٱعْتَدُوا۟then you transgressعَلَيْهِon himبِمِثْلِin (the) same mannerمَا(as)ٱعْتَدَىٰhe transgressedعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahمَعَ(is) withٱلْمُتَّقِينَthose who fear (Him)194
وَأَنفِقُوا۟And spendفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَلَاand (do) notتُلْقُوا۟throw (yourselves)بِأَيْدِيكُمْ[with your hands]إِلَىintoٱلتَّهْلُكَةِ[the] destructionوَأَحْسِنُوٓا۟And do goodإِنَّindeedٱللَّهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers195
وَأَتِمُّوا۟And completeٱلْحَجَّthe Hajjوَٱلْعُمْرَةَand the Umrahلِلَّهِfor AllahفَإِنْAnd ifأُحْصِرْتُمْyou are held backفَمَاthen (offer) whateverٱسْتَيْسَرَ(can be) obtained with easeمِنَofٱلْهَدْىِthe sacrificial animalوَلَاAnd (do) notتَحْلِقُوا۟shaveرُءُوسَكُمْyour headsحَتَّىٰuntilيَبْلُغَreachesٱلْهَدْىُthe sacrificial animalمَحِلَّهُۥ(to) its destinationفَمَنThen whoeverكَانَisمِنكُمamong youمَّرِيضًاillأَوْorبِهِۦٓhe (has)أَذًىan ailmentمِّنofرَّأْسِهِۦhis headفَفِدْيَةٌthen a ransomمِّنofصِيَامٍfastingأَوْorصَدَقَةٍcharityأَوْorنُسُكٍsacrificeفَإِذَآThen whenأَمِنتُمْyou are secureفَمَنthen whoeverتَمَتَّعَtook advantageبِٱلْعُمْرَةِof the Umrahإِلَىfollowedٱلْحَجِّ(by) the Hajjفَمَاthen (offer) whateverٱسْتَيْسَرَ(can be) obtained with easeمِنَofٱلْهَدْىِthe sacrificial animalفَمَنBut whoeverلَّمْ(can) notيَجِدْfind فَصِيَامُthen a fastثَلَٰثَةِ(of) threeأَيَّامٍdaysفِىduringٱلْحَجِّthe Hajjوَسَبْعَةٍand seven (days)إِذَاwhenرَجَعْتُمْyou returnتِلْكَThisعَشَرَةٌ(is) ten (days)كَامِلَةٌin allذَٰلِكَThatلِمَن(is) for (the one) whoseلَّمْnotيَكُنْisأَهْلُهُۥhis familyحَاضِرِىpresentٱلْمَسْجِدِ(near) Al-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-Haraamوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahشَدِيدُ(is) severeٱلْعِقَابِ(in) retribution196
ٱلْحَجُّ(For) the Hajjأَشْهُرٌ(are) monthsمَّعْلُومَٰتٌwell knownفَمَنthen whoeverفَرَضَundertakesفِيهِنَّthereinٱلْحَجَّthe Hajjفَلَاthen noرَفَثَsexual relationsوَلَاand noفُسُوقَwickednessوَلَاand noجِدَالَquarrellingفِىduringٱلْحَجِّthe HajjوَمَاAnd whateverتَفْعَلُوا۟you doمِنْofخَيْرٍgoodيَعْلَمْهُknows itٱللَّهُAllahوَتَزَوَّدُوا۟And take provisionفَإِنَّ(but) indeedخَيْرَ(the) bestٱلزَّادِprovisionٱلتَّقْوَىٰ(is) righteousnessوَٱتَّقُونِAnd fear Meيَٰٓأُو۟لِىO menٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ(of) understanding197
لَيْسَNot isعَلَيْكُمْon youجُنَاحٌany sinأَنthatتَبْتَغُوا۟you seekفَضْلًاbountyمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour LordفَإِذَآAnd whenأَفَضْتُمyou departمِّنْfromعَرَفَٰتٍ(Mount) Arafatفَٱذْكُرُوا۟then rememberٱللَّهَAllahعِندَnearٱلْمَشْعَرِthe Monumentٱلْحَرَامِ[the] SacredوَٱذْكُرُوهُAnd remember HimكَمَاasهَدَىٰكُمْHe (has) guided youوَإِن[and] thoughكُنتُمyou wereمِّن[from]قَبْلِهِۦbefore [it]لَمِنَsurely amongٱلضَّآلِّينَthose who went astray198
ثُمَّThenأَفِيضُوا۟departمِنْfromحَيْثُwhereverأَفَاضَdepartٱلنَّاسُthe peopleوَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟and ask forgivenessٱللَّهَ(of) AllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful199
فَإِذَاThen whenقَضَيْتُمyou complete[d]مَّنَٰسِكَكُمْyour acts of worshipفَٱذْكُرُوا۟then rememberٱللَّهَAllahكَذِكْرِكُمْas you rememberءَابَآءَكُمْyour forefathersأَوْorأَشَدَّ(with) greaterذِكْرًاremembranceفَمِنَAnd fromٱلنَّاسِthe peopleمَنwhoيَقُولُsayرَبَّنَآOur LordءَاتِنَاGrant usفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَمَاAnd notلَهُۥfor himفِىinٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe Hereafterمِنْ[of]خَلَٰقٍany share200
وَمِنْهُمAnd from thoseمَّنwhoيَقُولُsayرَبَّنَآOur LordءَاتِنَاGrant usفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldحَسَنَةًgoodوَفِىand inٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe Hereafterحَسَنَةًgoodوَقِنَاand save usعَذَابَ(from the) punishmentٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fire201
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose لَهُمْfor themنَصِيبٌ(is) a shareمِّمَّاof whatكَسَبُوا۟they earnedوَٱللَّهُand Allahسَرِيعُ(is) swiftٱلْحِسَابِ(in taking) account202
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟And rememberٱللَّهَAllahفِىٓduringأَيَّامٍdaysمَّعْدُودَٰتٍnumberedفَمَنThen (he) whoتَعَجَّلَhurriesفِىinيَوْمَيْنِtwo daysفَلَآthen noإِثْمَsinعَلَيْهِupon himوَمَنand whoeverتَأَخَّرَdelaysفَلَآthen noإِثْمَsinعَلَيْهِupon himلِمَنِfor (the one) whoٱتَّقَىٰfearsوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّكُمْthat youإِلَيْهِunto Himتُحْشَرُونَwill be gathered203
وَمِنَAnd ofٱلنَّاسِthe peopleمَن(is the one) whoيُعْجِبُكَpleases youقَوْلُهُۥ(with) his speechفِىinٱلْحَيَوٰةِthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَيُشْهِدُand he calls to witnessٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰonمَاwhatفِى(is) inقَلْبِهِۦhis heartوَهُوَand heأَلَدُّ(is) the most quarrelsomeٱلْخِصَامِ(of) opponents204
وَإِذَاAnd whenتَوَلَّىٰhe turns awayسَعَىٰhe strivesفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthلِيُفْسِدَto spread corruptionفِيهَا[in it]وَيُهْلِكَand destroysٱلْحَرْثَthe cropsوَٱلنَّسْلَand progenyوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahلَا(does) notيُحِبُّloveٱلْفَسَادَ[the] corruption205
وَإِذَاAnd whenقِيلَit is saidلَهُto himٱتَّقِFearٱللَّهَAllahأَخَذَتْهُtakes himٱلْعِزَّةُ(his) prideبِٱلْإِثْمِto [the] sinsفَحَسْبُهُۥThen enough for himجَهَنَّمُ(is) Hell وَلَبِئْسَ[and] surely an evilٱلْمِهَادُ[the] resting-place206
وَمِنَAnd ofٱلنَّاسِthe peopleمَن(is the one) whoيَشْرِىsellsنَفْسَهُhis own selfٱبْتِغَآءَseekingمَرْضَاتِpleasureٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahرَءُوفٌۢ(is) full of Kindnessبِٱلْعِبَادِto His servants207
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]ٱدْخُلُوا۟EnterفِىinٱلسِّلْمِIslamكَآفَّةًcompletelyوَلَاand (do) notتَتَّبِعُوا۟followخُطُوَٰتِfootstepsٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ(of) the ShaitaanإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heلَكُمْ(is) for youعَدُوٌّan enemyمُّبِينٌopen208
فَإِنThen ifزَلَلْتُمyou slipمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]جَآءَتْكُمُcame to youٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ(from) the clear proofsفَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟then knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahعَزِيزٌ(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌAll-Wise209
هَلْAreيَنظُرُونَthey waitingإِلَّآ[except]أَنthatيَأْتِيَهُمُcomes to themٱللَّهُAllahفِىinظُلَلٍ(the) shadowsمِّنَofٱلْغَمَامِ[the] cloudsوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُand the Angelsوَقُضِىَand is decreedٱلْأَمْرُthe matterوَإِلَىAnd toٱللَّهِAllahتُرْجَعُreturnٱلْأُمُورُ(all) the matters210
سَلْAskبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelكَمْhow manyءَاتَيْنَٰهُمWe gave themمِّنْofءَايَةٍۢ(the) Sign(s)بَيِّنَةٍclearوَمَنAnd whoeverيُبَدِّلْchangesنِعْمَةَFavorٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]جَآءَتْهُit (has) come to him فَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahشَدِيدُ(is) severeٱلْعِقَابِin [the] chastising211
زُيِّنَBeautifiedلِلَّذِينَfor those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ(is) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَيَسْخَرُونَand they ridiculeمِنَ[of]ٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoٱتَّقَوْا۟fear (Allah)فَوْقَهُمْ(they will be) above themيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) ResurrectionوَٱللَّهُAnd AllahيَرْزُقُprovidesمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsبِغَيْرِwithoutحِسَابٍmeasure212
كَانَWasٱلنَّاسُmankindأُمَّةًa communityوَٰحِدَةًsingleفَبَعَثَthen raised upٱللَّهُAllahٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ[the] Prophetsمُبَشِّرِينَ(as) bearers of glad tidingsوَمُنذِرِينَand (as) warnersوَأَنزَلَand sent downمَعَهُمُwith themٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookبِٱلْحَقِّin [the] truthلِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَbetweenٱلنَّاسِ[the] peopleفِيمَاin whatٱخْتَلَفُوا۟they differedفِيهِ[in it]وَمَاAnd (did) notٱخْتَلَفَdiffer[ed]فِيهِin itإِلَّاexceptٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوهُwere given itمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]جَآءَتْهُمُcame to themٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُthe clear proofsبَغْيًۢا(out of) jealousyبَيْنَهُمْamong themselvesفَهَدَىAnd guidedٱللَّهُAllahٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لِمَاregarding whatٱخْتَلَفُوا۟they differedفِيهِ[in it]مِنَofٱلْحَقِّthe Truthبِإِذْنِهِۦwith His permissionوَٱللَّهُAnd AllahيَهْدِىguidesمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsإِلَىٰtoصِرَٰطٍa pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍstraight213
أَمْOrحَسِبْتُمْ(do) you thinkأَنthatتَدْخُلُوا۟you will enterٱلْجَنَّةَParadiseوَلَمَّاwhile notيَأْتِكُم(has) come to youمَّثَلُlike (came to)ٱلَّذِينَthose whoخَلَوْا۟passed awayمِنfromقَبْلِكُمbefore youمَّسَّتْهُمُTouched themٱلْبَأْسَآءُ[the] adversityوَٱلضَّرَّآءُand [the] hardshipوَزُلْزِلُوا۟and they were shakenحَتَّىٰuntilيَقُولَsaidٱلرَّسُولُthe Messengerوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoءَامَنُوا۟believedمَعَهُۥwith himمَتَىٰWhenنَصْرُ[will] (the) helpٱللَّهِ(of) Allah (come)أَلَآUnquestionablyإِنَّ[Indeed]نَصْرَhelpٱللَّهِ(of) Allahقَرِيبٌ(is) near214
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youمَاذَاwhatيُنفِقُونَthey (should) spendقُلْSayمَآWhateverأَنفَقْتُمyou spendمِّنْofخَيْرٍgoodفَلِلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ(is) for parentsوَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَand the relativesوَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰand the orphansوَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِand the needyوَٱبْنِand (of)ٱلسَّبِيلِthe wayfarerوَمَاAnd whateverتَفْعَلُوا۟you doمِنْofخَيْرٍgoodفَإِنَّSo indeedٱللَّهَAllahبِهِۦof itعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Aware215
كُتِبَIs prescribedعَلَيْكُمُupon youٱلْقِتَالُ[the] fightingوَهُوَwhile itكُرْهٌ(is) hatefulلَّكُمْto youوَعَسَىٰٓBut perhapsأَن[that]تَكْرَهُوا۟you dislikeشَيْـًٔاa thingوَهُوَand itخَيْرٌ(is) goodلَّكُمْfor youوَعَسَىٰٓand perhapsأَن[that]تُحِبُّوا۟you loveشَيْـًٔاa thingوَهُوَand itشَرٌّ(is) badلَّكُمْfor youوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَعْلَمُknowsوَأَنتُمْwhile youلَا(do) notتَعْلَمُونَknow216
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youعَنِaboutٱلشَّهْرِthe monthٱلْحَرَامِ[the] sacred قِتَالٍ(concerning) fightingفِيهِin itقُلْSayقِتَالٌFightingفِيهِthereinكَبِيرٌ(is) a great (sin)وَصَدٌّbut hindering (people)عَنfromسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَكُفْرٌۢand disbeliefبِهِۦin Himوَٱلْمَسْجِدِand (preventing access to) Al-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-Haraamوَإِخْرَاجُand driving outأَهْلِهِۦits peopleمِنْهُfrom itأَكْبَرُ(is) greater (sin)عِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahوَٱلْفِتْنَةُAnd [the] oppressionأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterمِنَthanٱلْقَتْلِ[the] killingوَلَاAnd notيَزَالُونَthey will ceaseيُقَٰتِلُونَكُمْ(to) fight with youحَتَّىٰuntilيَرُدُّوكُمْthey turn you awayعَنfromدِينِكُمْyour religionإِنِifٱسْتَطَٰعُوا۟they are ableوَمَنAnd whoeverيَرْتَدِدْturns awayمِنكُمْamong youعَنfromدِينِهِۦhis religionفَيَمُتْthen diesوَهُوَwhile heكَافِرٌ(is) a disbelieverفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَfor thoseحَبِطَتْbecame worthlessأَعْمَٰلُهُمْtheir deedsفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَٱلْءَاخِرَةِand the Hereafterوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَAnd thoseأَصْحَٰبُ(are) companionsٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fireهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever217
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believedوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoهَاجَرُوا۟emigratedوَجَٰهَدُوا۟and stroveفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allah أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseيَرْجُونَthey hopeرَحْمَتَ(for) Mercyٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful218
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youعَنِaboutٱلْخَمْرِ[the] intoxicantsوَٱلْمَيْسِرِand [the] games of chanceقُلْSayفِيهِمَآIn both of themإِثْمٌ(is) a sinكَبِيرٌgreatوَمَنَٰفِعُand (some) benefitsلِلنَّاسِfor [the] peopleوَإِثْمُهُمَآBut sin of both of themأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterمِنthanنَّفْعِهِمَا(the) benefit of (the) twoوَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَAnd they ask youمَاذَاwhatيُنفِقُونَthey (should) spendقُلِSayٱلْعَفْوَThe surplusكَذَٰلِكَThusيُبَيِّنُmakes clearٱللَّهُAllahلَكُمُto youٱلْءَايَٰتِ[the] Versesلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَتَفَكَّرُونَponder219
فِىConcerningٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَٱلْءَاخِرَةِand the HereafterوَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youعَنِaboutٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰthe orphansقُلْSayإِصْلَاحٌSetting right (their affairs)لَّهُمْfor themخَيْرٌ(is) bestوَإِنAnd ifتُخَالِطُوهُمْyou associate with themفَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْthen they (are) your brothersوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَعْلَمُknowsٱلْمُفْسِدَthe corrupterمِنَfromٱلْمُصْلِحِthe amenderوَلَوْAnd ifشَآءَ(had) willedٱللَّهُAllahلَأَعْنَتَكُمْsurely He (could have) put you in difficultiesإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَزِيزٌ(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌAll-Wise220
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَنكِحُوا۟[you] marryٱلْمُشْرِكَٰتِ[the] polytheistic womenحَتَّىٰuntilيُؤْمِنَّthey believeوَلَأَمَةٌAnd a bondwomanمُّؤْمِنَةٌ(who is) believingخَيْرٌ(is) betterمِّنthanمُّشْرِكَةٍa polytheistic womanوَلَوْ[and] even ifأَعْجَبَتْكُمْshe pleases youوَلَاAnd (do) notتُنكِحُوا۟give in marriage (your women)ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ(to) [the] polytheistic menحَتَّىٰuntilيُؤْمِنُوا۟they believeوَلَعَبْدٌand a bondmanمُّؤْمِنٌ(who is) believingخَيْرٌ(is) betterمِّنthanمُّشْرِكٍa polytheistic manوَلَوْ[and] even ifأَعْجَبَكُمْhe pleases youأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ[Those]يَدْعُونَthey inviteإِلَىtoٱلنَّارِthe Fireوَٱللَّهُand Allahيَدْعُوٓا۟invitesإِلَىtoٱلْجَنَّةِParadiseوَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِand [the] forgivenessبِإِذْنِهِۦby His permissionوَيُبَيِّنُAnd He makes clearءَايَٰتِهِۦHis Versesلِلنَّاسِfor the peopleلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَتَذَكَّرُونَtake heed221
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَAnd they ask youعَنِaboutٱلْمَحِيضِ[the] menstruationقُلْSayهُوَItأَذًى(is) a hurtفَٱعْتَزِلُوا۟so keep away (from)ٱلنِّسَآءَ[the] womenفِىduringٱلْمَحِيضِ(their) [the] menstruationوَلَاAnd (do) notتَقْرَبُوهُنَّapproach themحَتَّىٰuntilيَطْهُرْنَthey are cleansedفَإِذَاThen whenتَطَهَّرْنَthey are purifiedفَأْتُوهُنَّthen come to themمِنْfromحَيْثُwhereأَمَرَكُمُhas ordered youٱللَّهُAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيُحِبُّlovesٱلتَّوَّٰبِينَthose who turn in repentanceوَيُحِبُّand lovesٱلْمُتَطَهِّرِينَthose who purify themselves222
نِسَآؤُكُمْYour wivesحَرْثٌ(are) a tilthلَّكُمْfor youفَأْتُوا۟so comeحَرْثَكُمْ(to) your tilthأَنَّىٰwhenشِئْتُمْyou wishوَقَدِّمُوا۟and send forth (good deeds)لِأَنفُسِكُمْfor yourselvesوَٱتَّقُوا۟And be consciousٱللَّهَ(of) Allahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّكُمthat youمُّلَٰقُوهُ(will) meet HimوَبَشِّرِAnd give glad tidingsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(to) the believers223
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَجْعَلُوا۟makeٱللَّهَAllah's (name)عُرْضَةًan excuseلِّأَيْمَٰنِكُمْin your oathsأَنthatتَبَرُّوا۟you do goodوَتَتَّقُوا۟and be righteousوَتُصْلِحُوا۟and make peaceبَيْنَbetweenٱلنَّاسِ[the] peopleوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing224
لَّاNotيُؤَاخِذُكُمُwill take you to taskٱللَّهُAllahبِٱللَّغْوِfor (what is) unintentionalفِىٓinأَيْمَٰنِكُمْyour oathsوَلَٰكِن[and] butيُؤَاخِذُكُمHe takes you to taskبِمَاfor whatكَسَبَتْ(have) earnedقُلُوبُكُمْyour heartsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingحَلِيمٌMost Forbearing225
لِّلَّذِينَFor those whoيُؤْلُونَswear (off)مِنfromنِّسَآئِهِمْtheir wivesتَرَبُّصُ(is a) waiting (of)أَرْبَعَةِfourأَشْهُرٍmonthsفَإِنthen ifفَآءُوthey return فَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful226
وَإِنْAnd ifعَزَمُوا۟they resolveٱلطَّلَٰقَ(on) [the] divorce فَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing227
وَٱلْمُطَلَّقَٰتُAnd the women who are divorcedيَتَرَبَّصْنَshall waitبِأَنفُسِهِنَّconcerning themselvesثَلَٰثَةَ(for) threeقُرُوٓءٍmonthly periodsوَلَاAnd (it is) notيَحِلُّlawfulلَهُنَّfor themأَنthatيَكْتُمْنَthey concealمَاwhatخَلَقَ(has been) createdٱللَّهُ(by) Allahفِىٓinأَرْحَامِهِنَّtheir wombsإِنifكُنَّtheyيُؤْمِنَّbelieveبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِ[the] LastوَبُعُولَتُهُنَّAnd their husbandsأَحَقُّ(have) better rightبِرَدِّهِنَّto take them backفِىinذَٰلِكَthat (period)إِنْifأَرَادُوٓا۟they wishإِصْلَٰحًا(for) reconciliationوَلَهُنَّAnd for themمِثْلُ(is the) likeٱلَّذِى(of) that whichعَلَيْهِنَّ(is) on themبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a reasonable mannerوَلِلرِّجَالِand for the menعَلَيْهِنَّover themدَرَجَةٌ(is) a degreeوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَزِيزٌ(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌAll-Wise228
ٱلطَّلَٰقُThe divorceمَرَّتَانِ(is) twiceفَإِمْسَاكٌۢThen to retainبِمَعْرُوفٍin a reasonable mannerأَوْorتَسْرِيحٌۢto release (her)بِإِحْسَٰنٍwith kindnessوَلَاAnd (it is) notيَحِلُّlawfulلَكُمْfor youأَنthatتَأْخُذُوا۟you take (back)مِمَّآwhateverءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّyou have given themشَيْـًٔاanythingإِلَّآexceptأَنifيَخَافَآboth fearأَلَّاthat notيُقِيمَاthey both (can) keepحُدُودَ(the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahفَإِنْBut ifخِفْتُمْyou fearأَلَّاthat notيُقِيمَاthey both (can) keepحُدُودَ(the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahفَلَاthen (there is) noجُنَاحَsinعَلَيْهِمَاon both of themفِيمَاin whatٱفْتَدَتْshe ransomsبِهِۦconcerning itتِلْكَTheseحُدُودُ(are the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahفَلَاso (do) notتَعْتَدُوهَاtransgress themوَمَنAnd whoeverيَتَعَدَّtransgressesحُدُودَ(the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthen those هُمُtheyٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ(are) the wrongdoers229
فَإِنThen ifطَلَّقَهَاhe divorces herفَلَاthen (she is) notتَحِلُّlawfulلَهُۥfor himمِنۢfromبَعْدُafter (that)حَتَّىٰuntilتَنكِحَshe marriesزَوْجًاa spouseغَيْرَهُۥother than himفَإِنThen ifطَلَّقَهَاhe divorces herفَلَاthen noجُنَاحَsinعَلَيْهِمَآon themأَنifيَتَرَاجَعَآthey return to each otherإِنifظَنَّآthey believeأَنthatيُقِيمَاthey (will be able to) keepحُدُودَ(the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَتِلْكَAnd theseحُدُودُ(are the) limitsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahيُبَيِّنُهَاHe makes them clearلِقَوْمٍto a peopleيَعْلَمُونَwho know230
وَإِذَاAnd whenطَلَّقْتُمُyou divorceٱلنِّسَآءَthe womenفَبَلَغْنَand they reachأَجَلَهُنَّtheir (waiting) termفَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّthen retain themبِمَعْرُوفٍin a fair mannerأَوْorسَرِّحُوهُنَّrelease themبِمَعْرُوفٍin a fair mannerوَلَاAnd (do) notتُمْسِكُوهُنَّretain themضِرَارًا(to) hurtلِّتَعْتَدُوا۟so that you transgressوَمَنAnd whoeverيَفْعَلْdoesذَٰلِكَthatفَقَدْthen indeedظَلَمَhe wrongedنَفْسَهُۥhimselfوَلَاAnd (do) notتَتَّخِذُوٓا۟takeءَايَٰتِ(the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) Allahهُزُوًا(in) jestوَٱذْكُرُوا۟and rememberنِعْمَتَ(the) Favorsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَمَآand whatأَنزَلَ(is) revealedعَلَيْكُمto youمِّنَofٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Bookوَٱلْحِكْمَةِand [the] wisdomيَعِظُكُمHe instructs youبِهِۦwith itوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllah (is)بِكُلِّof everyشَىْءٍthingعَلِيمٌAll-Knower231
وَإِذَاAnd whenطَلَّقْتُمُyou divorceٱلنِّسَآءَ[the] womenفَبَلَغْنَand they reachedأَجَلَهُنَّtheir (waiting) termفَلَاthen (do) notتَعْضُلُوهُنَّhinder themأَن[that]يَنكِحْنَ(from) marryingأَزْوَٰجَهُنَّtheir husbandsإِذَاwhenتَرَٰضَوْا۟they agreeبَيْنَهُمbetween themselvesبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair mannerذَٰلِكَThatيُوعَظُis admonishedبِهِۦwith itمَنwhoeverكَانَ[is]مِنكُمْamong youيُؤْمِنُbelievesبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِ[the] Lastذَٰلِكُمْthatأَزْكَىٰ(is) more virtuousلَكُمْfor youوَأَطْهَرُand more purerوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَعْلَمُknowsوَأَنتُمْand youلَا(do) notتَعْلَمُونَknow232
وَٱلْوَٰلِدَٰتُAnd the mothersيُرْضِعْنَshall suckleأَوْلَٰدَهُنَّtheir childrenحَوْلَيْنِ(for) two yearsكَامِلَيْنِcompleteلِمَنْfor whoeverأَرَادَwishesأَنtoيُتِمَّcompleteٱلرَّضَاعَةَthe sucklingوَعَلَىAnd uponٱلْمَوْلُودِthe fatherلَهُۥ(on) himرِزْقُهُنَّ(is) their provisionوَكِسْوَتُهُنَّand their clothingبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair mannerلَاNotتُكَلَّفُis burdenedنَفْسٌany soulإِلَّاexceptوُسْعَهَاits capacityلَاNotتُضَآرَّmade to sufferوَٰلِدَةٌۢ(the) motherبِوَلَدِهَاbecause of her childوَلَاand notمَوْلُودٌ(the) fatherلَّهُۥ(be)بِوَلَدِهِۦbecause of his childوَعَلَىAnd onٱلْوَارِثِthe (father's) heirمِثْلُ(is a duty) likeذَٰلِكَthat (of the father)فَإِنْThen ifأَرَادَاthey both desireفِصَالًاweaningعَنthroughتَرَاضٍmutual consentمِّنْهُمَاof both of themوَتَشَاوُرٍand consultationفَلَاthen noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْهِمَاon both of themوَإِنْAnd ifأَرَدتُّمْyou wantأَنtoتَسْتَرْضِعُوٓا۟ask another women to suckleأَوْلَٰدَكُمْyour childفَلَاthen (there is) noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْكُمْon youإِذَاwhenسَلَّمْتُمyou payمَّآwhatءَاتَيْتُمyou giveبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair mannerوَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearٱللَّهَAllahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seer233
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoيُتَوَفَّوْنَpass awayمِنكُمْamong youوَيَذَرُونَand leave behindأَزْوَٰجًاwivesيَتَرَبَّصْنَ(the widows) should waitبِأَنفُسِهِنَّfor themselvesأَرْبَعَةَ(for) fourأَشْهُرٍmonthsوَعَشْرًاand ten (days)فَإِذَاThen whenبَلَغْنَthey reachأَجَلَهُنَّtheir (specified) termفَلَاthen (there is) noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْكُمْupon youفِيمَاfor whatفَعَلْنَthey doفِىٓconcerningأَنفُسِهِنَّthemselvesبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair mannerوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doخَبِيرٌ(is) All-Aware234
وَلَاAnd (there is) noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْكُمْupon youفِيمَاin whatعَرَّضْتُمyou hintبِهِۦ[with it]مِنْofخِطْبَةِmarriage proposalٱلنِّسَآءِ[to] the womenأَوْorأَكْنَنتُمْyou conceal itفِىٓinأَنفُسِكُمْyourselvesعَلِمَKnowsٱللَّهُAllahأَنَّكُمْthat youسَتَذْكُرُونَهُنَّwill mention themوَلَٰكِن[and] butلَّا(do) notتُوَاعِدُوهُنَّpromise them (widows)سِرًّاsecretlyإِلَّآexceptأَنthatتَقُولُوا۟you sayقَوْلًاa sayingمَّعْرُوفًاhonorableوَلَاAnd (do) notتَعْزِمُوا۟resolve (on)عُقْدَةَthe knotٱلنِّكَاحِ(of) marriageحَتَّىٰuntilيَبْلُغَreachesٱلْكِتَٰبُthe prescribed termأَجَلَهُۥits endوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahيَعْلَمُknowsمَاwhatفِىٓ(is) withinأَنفُسِكُمْyourselvesفَٱحْذَرُوهُso beware of Himوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahغَفُورٌ(is) Oft-ForgivingحَلِيمٌMost Forbearing235
لَّا(There is) noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْكُمْupon youإِنifطَلَّقْتُمُyou divorceٱلنِّسَآءَ[the] womenمَاwhomلَمْnotتَمَسُّوهُنَّyou have touchedأَوْnorتَفْرِضُوا۟you specifiedلَهُنَّfor themفَرِيضَةًan obligation (dower)وَمَتِّعُوهُنَّAnd make provision for them عَلَىuponٱلْمُوسِعِthe wealthyقَدَرُهُۥaccording to his meansوَعَلَىand uponٱلْمُقْتِرِthe poorقَدَرُهُۥaccording to his means مَتَٰعًۢاa provisionبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair mannerحَقًّاa dutyعَلَىuponٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers236
وَإِنAnd ifطَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّyou divorce themمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تَمَسُّوهُنَّyou (have) touched themوَقَدْwhile alreadyفَرَضْتُمْyou have specifiedلَهُنَّfor themفَرِيضَةًan obligation (dower)فَنِصْفُthen (give) halfمَا(of) whatفَرَضْتُمْyou have specifiedإِلَّآunlessأَن[that]يَعْفُونَthey (women) forgo (it)أَوْorيَعْفُوَا۟forgoesٱلَّذِىthe oneبِيَدِهِۦin whose handsعُقْدَةُ(is the) knotٱلنِّكَاحِ(of) the marriageوَأَنAnd thatتَعْفُوٓا۟you forgoأَقْرَبُ(is) nearerلِلتَّقْوَىٰto [the] righteousnessوَلَاAnd (do) notتَنسَوُا۟forgetٱلْفَضْلَthe graciousnessبَيْنَكُمْamong youإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seer237
حَٰفِظُوا۟Guard strictlyعَلَى[on]ٱلصَّلَوَٰتِthe prayersوَٱلصَّلَوٰةِand the prayer ٱلْوُسْطَىٰ[the] middleوَقُومُوا۟and stand upلِلَّهِfor Allahقَٰنِتِينَdevoutly obedient238
فَإِنْAnd ifخِفْتُمْyou fearفَرِجَالًاthen (pray) on footأَوْorرُكْبَانًاridingفَإِذَآThen whenأَمِنتُمْyou are secureفَٱذْكُرُوا۟then rememberٱللَّهَAllahكَمَاasعَلَّمَكُمHe (has) taught youمَّاwhatلَمْnotتَكُونُوا۟you wereتَعْلَمُونَknowing239
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoيُتَوَفَّوْنَdieمِنكُمْamong youوَيَذَرُونَand leave behindأَزْوَٰجًا(their) wivesوَصِيَّةً(should make) a willلِّأَزْوَٰجِهِمfor their wivesمَّتَٰعًاprovisionإِلَىforٱلْحَوْلِthe yearغَيْرَwithoutإِخْرَاجٍdriving (them) outفَإِنْBut ifخَرَجْنَthey leaveفَلَاthen noجُنَاحَblameعَلَيْكُمْupon youفِىinمَاwhatفَعَلْنَthey doفِىٓconcerningأَنفُسِهِنَّthemselvesمِن[of]مَّعْرُوفٍhonorablyوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَزِيزٌ(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌAll-Wise240
وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَٰتِAnd for the divorced womenمَتَٰعٌۢ(is) a provisionبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِin a fair manner حَقًّاa dutyعَلَىuponٱلْمُتَّقِينَthe righteous241
كَذَٰلِكَThusيُبَيِّنُmakes clearٱللَّهُAllahلَكُمْfor youءَايَٰتِهِۦHis Versesلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَعْقِلُونَuse your intellect242
أَلَمْDid notتَرَyou seeإِلَى[to]ٱلَّذِينَthose whoخَرَجُوا۟went outمِنfromدِيَٰرِهِمْtheir homesوَهُمْand theyأُلُوفٌ(were in) thousandsحَذَرَ(in) fearٱلْمَوْتِ(of) [the] deathفَقَالَThen saidلَهُمُto themٱللَّهُAllahمُوتُوا۟DieثُمَّthenأَحْيَٰهُمْHe restored them to lifeإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahلَذُو(is) surely Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) bountyعَلَىforٱلنَّاسِ[the] mankindوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butأَكْثَرَmostٱلنَّاسِ(of) the peopleلَا(are) notيَشْكُرُونَgrateful243
وَقَٰتِلُوا۟And fightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟and knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing244
مَّنWhoذَا(is) the oneٱلَّذِىwhoيُقْرِضُwill lendٱللَّهَ(to) Allah قَرْضًاa loanحَسَنًاgoodفَيُضَٰعِفَهُۥso (that) He multiplies itلَهُۥٓfor him أَضْعَافًاmanifoldsكَثِيرَةًmanyوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَقْبِضُwithholdsوَيَبْصُطُand grants abundanceوَإِلَيْهِand to Himتُرْجَعُونَyou will be returned245
أَلَمْDid notتَرَyou seeإِلَى[towards]ٱلْمَلَإِthe chiefsمِنۢofبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) IsraelمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمُوسَىٰٓMusaإِذْwhenقَالُوا۟they saidلِنَبِىٍّto a Prophetلَّهُمُof theirsٱبْعَثْAppointلَنَاfor usمَلِكًاa kingنُّقَٰتِلْwe may fightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) AllahقَالَHe saidهَلْWouldعَسَيْتُمْyou perhaps إِنifكُتِبَprescribedعَلَيْكُمُupon youٱلْقِتَالُ[the] fightingأَلَّاthat notتُقَٰتِلُوا۟you fightقَالُوا۟They saidوَمَاAnd whatلَنَآfor usأَلَّاthat notنُقَٰتِلَwe fightفِىinسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَقَدْwhile surelyأُخْرِجْنَاwe have been drivenمِنfromدِيَٰرِنَاour homesوَأَبْنَآئِنَاand our childrenفَلَمَّاYet, whenكُتِبَwas prescribedعَلَيْهِمُupon themٱلْقِتَالُthe fightingتَوَلَّوْا۟they turned awayإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa fewمِّنْهُمْamong themوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowingبِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَof the wrongdoers246
وَقَالَAnd saidلَهُمْto themنَبِيُّهُمْtheir ProphetإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahقَدْ(has) surelyبَعَثَraisedلَكُمْfor youطَالُوتَTalutمَلِكًا(as) a kingقَالُوٓا۟They saidأَنَّىٰHowيَكُونُcan beلَهُfor himٱلْمُلْكُthe kingshipعَلَيْنَاover usوَنَحْنُwhile weأَحَقُّ(are) more entitledبِٱلْمُلْكِto kingshipمِنْهُthan himوَلَمْand notيُؤْتَhe has been givenسَعَةًabundanceمِّنَofٱلْمَالِ[the] wealthقَالَHe saidإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahٱصْطَفَىٰهُhas chosen himعَلَيْكُمْover youوَزَادَهُۥand increased himبَسْطَةًabundantlyفِىinٱلْعِلْمِ[the] knowledgeوَٱلْجِسْمِand [the] physiqueوَٱللَّهُAnd AllahيُؤْتِىgivesمُلْكَهُۥHis kingdomمَن(to) whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahوَٰسِعٌ(is) All-EncompassingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing247
وَقَالَAnd saidلَهُمْto themنَبِيُّهُمْtheir ProphetإِنَّIndeedءَايَةَa signمُلْكِهِۦٓ(of) his kingshipأَن(is) thatيَأْتِيَكُمُwill come to youٱلتَّابُوتُthe arkفِيهِin itسَكِينَةٌ(is) tranquilityمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَبَقِيَّةٌand a remnantمِّمَّاof whatتَرَكَ(was) leftءَالُ(by the) familyمُوسَىٰ(of) Musaوَءَالُand familyهَٰرُونَ(of) Harunتَحْمِلُهُwill carry itٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُthe AngelsإِنَّIndeedفِىinذَٰلِكَthatلَءَايَةً(is) surely a signلَّكُمْfor youإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers248
فَلَمَّاThen whenفَصَلَset outطَالُوتُTalutبِٱلْجُنُودِwith the forcesقَالَhe saidإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahمُبْتَلِيكُمwill test youبِنَهَرٍwith a riverفَمَنSo whoeverشَرِبَdrinksمِنْهُfrom itفَلَيْسَthen he is notمِنِّىfrom meوَمَنand whoeverلَّمْ(does) notيَطْعَمْهُtaste itفَإِنَّهُۥthen indeed, heمِنِّىٓ(is) from meإِلَّاexceptمَنِwhoeverٱغْتَرَفَtakesغُرْفَةًۢ(in the) hollowبِيَدِهِۦ(of) his handفَشَرِبُوا۟Then they drankمِنْهُfrom itإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa fewمِّنْهُمْof themفَلَمَّاThen whenجَاوَزَهُۥhe crossed itهُوَheوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoءَامَنُوا۟believedمَعَهُۥwith himقَالُوا۟they saidلَاNoطَاقَةَstrengthلَنَاfor usٱلْيَوْمَtodayبِجَالُوتَagainst Jalutوَجُنُودِهِۦand his troopsقَالَSaidٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَظُنُّونَwere certainأَنَّهُمthat theyمُّلَٰقُوا۟(would) meetٱللَّهِAllahكَمHow manyمِّنofفِئَةٍa companyقَلِيلَةٍsmallغَلَبَتْovercameفِئَةًa companyكَثِيرَةًۢlargeبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahمَعَ(is) withٱلصَّٰبِرِينَthe patient ones249
وَلَمَّاAnd whenبَرَزُوا۟they went forthلِجَالُوتَto (face) Jalutوَجُنُودِهِۦand his troopsقَالُوا۟they saidرَبَّنَآOur LordأَفْرِغْPourعَلَيْنَاon usصَبْرًاpatienceوَثَبِّتْand make firmأَقْدَامَنَاour feetوَٱنصُرْنَاand help usعَلَىagainstٱلْقَوْمِthe peopleٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ(who are) disbelieving250
فَهَزَمُوهُمSo they defeated themبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَقَتَلَand killedدَاوُۥدُDawoodجَالُوتَJalutوَءَاتَىٰهُand gave himٱللَّهُAllahٱلْمُلْكَthe kingdomوَٱلْحِكْمَةَand the wisdomوَعَلَّمَهُۥand taught himمِمَّاthat whichيَشَآءُHe willedوَلَوْلَاAnd if notدَفْعُ(for the) repellingٱللَّهِ(by) Allahٱلنَّاسَ[the] people بَعْضَهُمsome of themبِبَعْضٍwith othersلَّفَسَدَتِcertainly (would have) corruptedٱلْأَرْضُthe Earthوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butٱللَّهَAllahذُو(is) Possessorفَضْلٍ(of) bountyعَلَىtoٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe worlds251
تِلْكَTheseءَايَٰتُ(are the) Versesٱللَّهِ(of) AllahنَتْلُوهَاWe recite themعَلَيْكَto youبِٱلْحَقِّin [the] truthوَإِنَّكَAnd indeed, youلَمِنَ(are) surely ofٱلْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengers252
