صِرَٰطَ(The) pathٱلَّذِينَ(of) thoseأَنْعَمْتَYou have bestowed (Your) Favorsعَلَيْهِمْon themغَيْرِnot (of)ٱلْمَغْضُوبِthose who earned (Your) wrathعَلَيْهِمْon themselvesوَلَاand notٱلضَّآلِّينَ(of) those who go astray7

ذَٰلِكَThatٱلْكِتَٰبُ(is) the bookلَاnoرَيْبَdoubtفِيهِin itهُدًىa Guidanceلِّلْمُتَّقِينَfor the God-conscious2
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِٱلْغَيْبِin the unseenوَيُقِيمُونَand establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَمِمَّاand out of whatرَزَقْنَٰهُمْWe have provided themيُنفِقُونَthey spend3
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِمَآin whatأُنزِلَ(is) sent downإِلَيْكَto youوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas sent downمِنfromقَبْلِكَbefore youوَبِٱلْءَاخِرَةِand in the Hereafterهُمْtheyيُوقِنُونَfirmly believe4
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseعَلَىٰ(are) onهُدًىGuidanceمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَand those هُمُtheyٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ(are) the successful ones5
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieve[d]سَوَآءٌ(it) is sameعَلَيْهِمْto themءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْwhether you warn themأَمْorلَمْnotتُنذِرْهُمْyou warn themلَاnotيُؤْمِنُونَthey believe6
خَتَمَHas set a sealٱللَّهُAllahعَلَىٰonقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsوَعَلَىٰand onسَمْعِهِمْtheir hearingوَعَلَىٰٓand onأَبْصَٰرِهِمْtheir visionغِشَٰوَةٌ(is) a veilوَلَهُمْAnd for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat7
وَمِنَAnd ofٱلنَّاسِthe peopleمَن(are some) whoيَقُولُsayءَامَنَّاWe believedبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَبِٱلْيَوْمِand in the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِ[the] Lastوَمَاbut notهُمtheyبِمُؤْمِنِينَ(are) believers (at all)8
يُخَٰدِعُونَThey seek to deceiveٱللَّهَAllahوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]وَمَاand notيَخْدَعُونَthey deceiveإِلَّآexceptأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesوَمَاand notيَشْعُرُونَthey realize (it)9
فِىInقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّرَضٌ(is) a diseaseفَزَادَهُمُso has increased themٱللَّهُAllahمَرَضًا(in) diseaseوَلَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌۢpainfulبِمَاbecauseكَانُوا۟they used toيَكْذِبُونَ[they] lie10
وَإِذَاAnd whenقِيلَit is saidلَهُمْto themلَا(Do) notتُفْسِدُوا۟spread corruptionفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthقَالُوٓا۟they sayإِنَّمَاOnlyنَحْنُweمُصْلِحُونَ(are) reformers11
أَلَآBewareإِنَّهُمْindeed theyهُمُthemselvesٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ(are) the ones who spread corruptionوَلَٰكِن[and] butلَّاnotيَشْعُرُونَthey realize (it)12
وَإِذَاAnd whenقِيلَit is saidلَهُمْto themءَامِنُوا۟Believeكَمَآasءَامَنَbelievedٱلنَّاسُthe peopleقَالُوٓا۟they sayأَنُؤْمِنُShould we believeكَمَآasءَامَنَbelievedٱلسُّفَهَآءُthe foolsأَلَآBewareإِنَّهُمْcertainly theyهُمُthemselvesٱلسُّفَهَآءُ(are) the foolsوَلَٰكِن[and] butلَّاnotيَعْلَمُونَthey know13
وَإِذَاAnd whenلَقُوا۟they meetٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]قَالُوٓا۟they sayءَامَنَّاWe believe[d]وَإِذَاBut whenخَلَوْا۟they are aloneإِلَىٰwithشَيَٰطِينِهِمْtheir evil onesقَالُوٓا۟they sayإِنَّاIndeed, weمَعَكُمْ(are) with youإِنَّمَاonlyنَحْنُweمُسْتَهْزِءُونَ(are) mockers14
ٱللَّهُAllahيَسْتَهْزِئُmocksبِهِمْat themوَيَمُدُّهُمْand prolongs themفِىinطُغْيَٰنِهِمْtheir transgressionيَعْمَهُونَthey wander blindly15
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseٱلَّذِينَ(are) the ones whoٱشْتَرَوُا۟boughtٱلضَّلَٰلَةَ[the] astrayingبِٱلْهُدَىٰfor [the] guidanceفَمَاSo notرَبِحَتprofitedتِّجَٰرَتُهُمْtheir commerceوَمَاand notكَانُوا۟were theyمُهْتَدِينَguided-ones16
مَثَلُهُمْTheir exampleكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) exampleٱلَّذِى(of) the one whoٱسْتَوْقَدَkindledنَارًاa fireفَلَمَّآthen, whenأَضَآءَتْit illuminatedمَاwhatحَوْلَهُۥ(was) around himذَهَبَtook awayٱللَّهُAllahبِنُورِهِمْtheir lightوَتَرَكَهُمْand left themفِىinظُلُمَٰتٍdarkness[es]لَّا(so) notيُبْصِرُونَ(do) they see17
أَوْOrكَصَيِّبٍlike a rainstormمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyفِيهِin it (are)ظُلُمَٰتٌdarkness[es]وَرَعْدٌand thunderوَبَرْقٌand lightningيَجْعَلُونَThey putأَصَٰبِعَهُمْtheir fingersفِىٓinءَاذَانِهِمtheir earsمِّنَfromٱلصَّوَٰعِقِthe thunderclapsحَذَرَ(in) fear (of)ٱلْمَوْتِ[the] deathوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahمُحِيطٌۢ(is) [the One Who] encompassesبِٱلْكَٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers19
يَكَادُAlmostٱلْبَرْقُthe lightningيَخْطَفُsnatches awayأَبْصَٰرَهُمْtheir sightكُلَّمَآWheneverأَضَآءَit flashesلَهُمfor themمَّشَوْا۟they walkفِيهِin itوَإِذَآand whenأَظْلَمَit darkensعَلَيْهِمْon themقَامُوا۟they stand (still)وَلَوْAnd ifشَآءَhad willedٱللَّهُAllahلَذَهَبَHe would certainly have taken awayبِسَمْعِهِمْtheir hearingوَأَبْصَٰرِهِمْand their sightإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰ(is) onكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌAll-Powerful20
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاOٱلنَّاسُmankindٱعْبُدُوا۟worshipرَبَّكُمُyour Lordٱلَّذِىthe One Whoخَلَقَكُمْcreated youوَٱلَّذِينَand thoseمِنfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَتَّقُونَbecome righteous21
ٱلَّذِىThe One Whoجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youٱلْأَرْضَthe earthفِرَٰشًاa resting placeوَٱلسَّمَآءَand the skyبِنَآءًa canopyوَأَنزَلَand sent downمِنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyمَآءًwaterفَأَخْرَجَthen brought forthبِهِۦtherewithمِنَ[of]ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِthe fruitsرِزْقًا(as) provisionلَّكُمْfor youفَلَاSo (do) notتَجْعَلُوا۟set upلِلَّهِto Allahأَندَادًاrivalsوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَعْلَمُونَ[you] know22
وَإِنAnd ifكُنتُمْyou areفِىinرَيْبٍdoubtمِّمَّاabout whatنَزَّلْنَاWe have revealedعَلَىٰtoعَبْدِنَاOur slaveفَأْتُوا۟then produceبِسُورَةٍa chapterمِّن[of]مِّثْلِهِۦlike itوَٱدْعُوا۟and callشُهَدَآءَكُمyour witnessesمِّنfromدُونِother thanٱللَّهِAllahإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful23
فَإِنBut ifلَّمْnotتَفْعَلُوا۟you doوَلَنand neverتَفْعَلُوا۟will you doفَٱتَّقُوا۟then fearٱلنَّارَthe Fireٱلَّتِىwhoseوَقُودُهَا[its] fuelٱلنَّاسُ(is) [the] menوَٱلْحِجَارَةُand [the] stonesأُعِدَّتْpreparedلِلْكَٰفِرِينَfor the disbelievers24
وَبَشِّرِAnd give good newsٱلَّذِينَ(to) those whoءَامَنُوا۟believeوَعَمِلُوا۟and doٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ[the] righteous deedsأَنَّthatلَهُمْfor themجَنَّٰتٍ(will be) Gardensتَجْرِىflowمِن[from]تَحْتِهَاunder themٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe riversكُلَّمَاEvery timeرُزِقُوا۟they are providedمِنْهَاtherefromمِنofثَمَرَةٍfruitرِّزْقًا(as) provisionقَالُوا۟they (will) sayهَٰذَاThis (is)ٱلَّذِىthe one whichرُزِقْنَاwe were providedمِنfromقَبْلُbeforeوَأُتُوا۟And they will be givenبِهِۦtherefromمُتَشَٰبِهًا(things) in resemblanceوَلَهُمْAnd for themفِيهَآthereinأَزْوَٰجٌspousesمُّطَهَّرَةٌpurifiedوَهُمْand theyفِيهَاthereinخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever25
إِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahلَا(is) notيَسْتَحْىِۦٓashamedأَنtoيَضْرِبَset forthمَثَلًاan exampleمَّا(like) evenبَعُوضَةً(of) a mosquitoفَمَاand (even) somethingفَوْقَهَاabove itفَأَمَّاThen as forٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believedفَيَعْلَمُونَ[thus] they will knowأَنَّهُthat itٱلْحَقُّ(is) the truthمِنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir LordوَأَمَّاAnd as forٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedفَيَقُولُونَ[thus] they will sayمَاذَآwhatأَرَادَ(did) intendٱللَّهُAllahبِهَٰذَاby thisمَثَلًاexampleيُضِلُّHe lets go astrayبِهِۦby itكَثِيرًاmanyوَيَهْدِىand He guidesبِهِۦby itكَثِيرًاmanyوَمَاAnd notيُضِلُّHe lets go astrayبِهِۦٓby itإِلَّاexceptٱلْفَٰسِقِينَthe defiantly disobedient26
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَنقُضُونَbreakعَهْدَ(the) Covenantٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمِيثَٰقِهِۦits ratificationوَيَقْطَعُونَand [they] cutمَآwhatأَمَرَhas orderedٱللَّهُAllahبِهِۦٓitأَنtoيُوصَلَbe joinedوَيُفْسِدُونَand [they] spread corruptionفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseهُمُtheyٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ(are) the losers27
كَيْفَHowتَكْفُرُونَ(can) you disbelieveبِٱللَّهِin AllahوَكُنتُمْWhile you wereأَمْوَٰتًاdeadفَأَحْيَٰكُمْthen He gave you lifeثُمَّthenيُمِيتُكُمْHe will cause you to dieثُمَّthenيُحْيِيكُمْHe will give you lifeثُمَّthenإِلَيْهِto Himتُرْجَعُونَyou will be returned28
هُوَHeٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoخَلَقَcreatedلَكُمfor youمَّاwhatفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِthe earthجَمِيعًاallثُمَّMoreoverٱسْتَوَىٰٓHe turnedإِلَىtoٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavenفَسَوَّىٰهُنَّand fashioned themسَبْعَsevenسَمَٰوَٰتٍheavensوَهُوَAnd Heبِكُلِّof everyشَىْءٍthingعَلِيمٌ(is) All-Knowing29
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidرَبُّكَyour Lordلِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِto the angelsإِنِّىIndeed, I (am)جَاعِلٌgoing to placeفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthخَلِيفَةًa vicegerentقَالُوٓا۟they saidأَتَجْعَلُWill You placeفِيهَاin itمَن(one) whoيُفْسِدُwill spread corruptionفِيهَاin itوَيَسْفِكُand will shedٱلدِّمَآءَ[the] blood[s]وَنَحْنُwhile weنُسَبِّحُ[we] glorify (You)بِحَمْدِكَwith Your praisesوَنُقَدِّسُand we sanctifyلَكَ[to] YouقَالَHe saidإِنِّىٓIndeed, Iأَعْلَمُ[I] knowمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَyou know30
وَعَلَّمَAnd He taughtءَادَمَAdamٱلْأَسْمَآءَthe names كُلَّهَاall of themثُمَّThenعَرَضَهُمْHe displayed themعَلَىtoٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِthe angelsفَقَالَthen He saidأَنۢبِـُٔونِىInform Meبِأَسْمَآءِof (the) namesهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ(of) theseإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful31
قَالُوا۟They saidسُبْحَٰنَكَGlory be to YouلَاNoعِلْمَknowledgeلَنَآ(is) for usإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatعَلَّمْتَنَآYou have taught usإِنَّكَIndeed YouأَنتَYouٱلْعَلِيمُ(are) the All-Knowingٱلْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise32
قَالَHe saidيَٰٓـَٔادَمُO AdamأَنۢبِئْهُمInform themبِأَسْمَآئِهِمْof their namesفَلَمَّآAnd whenأَنۢبَأَهُمhe had informed themبِأَسْمَآئِهِمْof their namesقَالَHe saidأَلَمْDid notأَقُلI sayلَّكُمْto youإِنِّىٓIndeed, Iأَعْلَمُ[I] knowغَيْبَ(the) unseenٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَأَعْلَمُand I knowمَاwhatتُبْدُونَyou revealوَمَاand whatكُنتُمْyou [were]تَكْتُمُونَconceal33
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْنَاWe saidلِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِto the angelsٱسْجُدُوا۟Prostrateلِءَادَمَto Adamفَسَجَدُوٓا۟[so] they prostratedإِلَّآexceptإِبْلِيسَIblisأَبَىٰHe refusedوَٱسْتَكْبَرَand was arrogantوَكَانَand becameمِنَofٱلْكَٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers34
وَقُلْنَاAnd We saidيَٰٓـَٔادَمُO AdamٱسْكُنْDwellأَنتَyouوَزَوْجُكَand your spouseٱلْجَنَّةَ(in) Paradiseوَكُلَاand [you both] eatمِنْهَاfrom itرَغَدًاfreelyحَيْثُ(from) whereverشِئْتُمَاyou [both] wishوَلَاBut do notتَقْرَبَا[you two] approachهَٰذِهِthisٱلشَّجَرَةَ[the] treeفَتَكُونَاlest you [both] beمِنَofٱلظَّٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoers35
فَأَزَلَّهُمَاThen made [both of] them slipٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe Shaitaanعَنْهَاfrom itفَأَخْرَجَهُمَاand he got [both of] them outمِمَّاfrom whatكَانَاthey [both] wereفِيهِin [it]وَقُلْنَاAnd We saidٱهْبِطُوا۟Go down (all of you)بَعْضُكُمْsome of youلِبَعْضٍto othersعَدُوٌّ(as) enemyوَلَكُمْand for youفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمُسْتَقَرٌّ(is) a dwelling placeوَمَتَٰعٌand a provisionإِلَىٰforحِينٍa period36
فَتَلَقَّىٰٓThen receivedءَادَمُAdamمِنfromرَّبِّهِۦhis LordكَلِمَٰتٍwordsفَتَابَSo (his Lord) turnedعَلَيْهِtowards himإِنَّهُۥIndeed HeهُوَHeٱلتَّوَّابُ(is) the Oft-returning (to mercy)ٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful37
قُلْنَاWe saidٱهْبِطُوا۟Go downمِنْهَاfrom itجَمِيعًاall (of you)فَإِمَّاand whenيَأْتِيَنَّكُمcomes to youمِّنِّىfrom MeهُدًىGuidanceفَمَنthen whoeverتَبِعَfollowsهُدَاىَMy Guidanceفَلَا[then] noخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمْ(will be) on themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَwill grieve38
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd thoseكَفَرُوا۟who disbelieve[d]وَكَذَّبُوا۟and denyبِـَٔايَٰتِنَآOur Signsأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseأَصْحَٰبُ(are the) companionsٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fireهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever39
يَٰبَنِىٓO Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelٱذْكُرُوا۟RememberنِعْمَتِىَMy FavorٱلَّتِىٓwhichأَنْعَمْتُI bestowedعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَأَوْفُوا۟and fulfillبِعَهْدِىٓMy CovenantأُوفِI will fulfillبِعَهْدِكُمْyour covenantوَإِيَّٰىَand Me Aloneفَٱرْهَبُونِfear [Me]40
وَءَامِنُوا۟And believeبِمَآin whatأَنزَلْتُI have sent downمُصَدِّقًاconfirmingلِّمَاthat whichمَعَكُمْ(is) with youوَلَاand (do) notتَكُونُوٓا۟beأَوَّلَ(the) firstكَافِرٍۢdisbelieverبِهِۦof itوَلَاAnd (do) notتَشْتَرُوا۟exchangeبِـَٔايَٰتِىMy Signs (for)ثَمَنًاa priceقَلِيلًاsmallوَإِيَّٰىَand Me Aloneفَٱتَّقُونِfear [Me]41
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَلْبِسُوا۟mixٱلْحَقَّthe Truthبِٱلْبَٰطِلِwith [the] falsehoodوَتَكْتُمُوا۟and concealٱلْحَقَّthe Truthوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَعْلَمُونَ[you] know42
وَأَقِيمُوا۟And establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَءَاتُوا۟and giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَzakahوَٱرْكَعُوا۟and bow downمَعَwithٱلرَّٰكِعِينَthose who bow down43
أَتَأْمُرُونَDo you orderٱلنَّاسَ[the] peopleبِٱلْبِرِّ[the] righteousnessوَتَنسَوْنَand you forgetأَنفُسَكُمْyourselvesوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَتْلُونَ[you] reciteٱلْكِتَٰبَthe BookأَفَلَاThen, will notتَعْقِلُونَyou use reason44
وَٱسْتَعِينُوا۟And seek helpبِٱلصَّبْرِthrough patienceوَٱلصَّلَوٰةِand the prayerوَإِنَّهَاand indeed, itلَكَبِيرَةٌ(is) surely difficultإِلَّاexceptعَلَىonٱلْخَٰشِعِينَthe humble ones45
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَظُنُّونَbelieveأَنَّهُمthat theyمُّلَٰقُوا۟will meetرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَأَنَّهُمْand that theyإِلَيْهِto Himرَٰجِعُونَwill return46
يَٰبَنِىٓO Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelٱذْكُرُوا۟RememberنِعْمَتِىَMy FavorٱلَّتِىٓwhichأَنْعَمْتُI bestowedعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَأَنِّىand that Iفَضَّلْتُكُمْ[I] preferred youعَلَىoverٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe worlds47
وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearيَوْمًاa dayلَّا(will) notتَجْزِىavailنَفْسٌany soulعَنforنَّفْسٍ(another) soulشَيْـًٔاanythingوَلَاand notيُقْبَلُwill be acceptedمِنْهَاfrom itشَفَٰعَةٌany intercessionوَلَاand notيُؤْخَذُwill be takenمِنْهَاfrom itعَدْلٌa compensationوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيُنصَرُونَwill be helped48
وَإِذْAnd whenنَجَّيْنَٰكُمWe saved youمِّنْfromءَالِ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunيَسُومُونَكُمْ(who were) afflicting you (with)سُوٓءَhorribleٱلْعَذَابِtormentيُذَبِّحُونَslaughteringأَبْنَآءَكُمْyour sonsوَيَسْتَحْيُونَand letting liveنِسَآءَكُمْyour womenوَفِىAnd inذَٰلِكُمthatبَلَآءٌ(was) a trialمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordعَظِيمٌgreat49
وَإِذْAnd whenفَرَقْنَاWe partedبِكُمُfor youٱلْبَحْرَthe seaفَأَنجَيْنَٰكُمْthen We saved youوَأَغْرَقْنَآand We drownedءَالَ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَنظُرُونَ(were) looking50
وَإِذْAnd whenوَٰعَدْنَاWe appointedمُوسَىٰٓ(for) MusaأَرْبَعِينَfortyلَيْلَةًnightsثُمَّThenٱتَّخَذْتُمُyou tookٱلْعِجْلَthe calfمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦafter himوَأَنتُمْand youظَٰلِمُونَ(were) wrongdoers51
ثُمَّThenعَفَوْنَاWe forgaveعَنكُمyouمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) grateful52
وَإِذْAnd whenءَاتَيْنَاWe gaveمُوسَىMusaٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْفُرْقَانَand the Criterionلَعَلَّكُمْperhaps youتَهْتَدُونَ(would be) guided53
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidمُوسَىٰMusaلِقَوْمِهِۦto his peopleيَٰقَوْمِO my peopleإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youظَلَمْتُمْ[you] have wrongedأَنفُسَكُمyourselvesبِٱتِّخَاذِكُمُby your takingٱلْعِجْلَthe calfفَتُوبُوٓا۟So turn in repentanceإِلَىٰtoبَارِئِكُمْyour Creatorفَٱقْتُلُوٓا۟and killأَنفُسَكُمْyourselvesذَٰلِكُمْThatخَيْرٌ(is) betterلَّكُمْfor youعِندَwithبَارِئِكُمْyour CreatorفَتَابَThen He turnedعَلَيْكُمْtowards youإِنَّهُۥIndeed HeهُوَHeٱلتَّوَّابُ(is) the-returningٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful54
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْتُمْyou saidيَٰمُوسَىٰO MusaلَنNeverنُّؤْمِنَ(will) we believeلَكَin youحَتَّىٰuntilنَرَىwe seeٱللَّهَAllahجَهْرَةًmanifestlyفَأَخَذَتْكُمُSo seized youٱلصَّٰعِقَةُthe thunderboltوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَنظُرُونَ(were) looking55
ثُمَّThenبَعَثْنَٰكُمWe revived youمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَوْتِكُمْyour deathلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) grateful56
وَظَلَّلْنَاAnd We shadedعَلَيْكُمُ[over] youٱلْغَمَامَ(with) [the] cloudsوَأَنزَلْنَاand We sent downعَلَيْكُمُto youٱلْمَنَّ[the] mannaوَٱلسَّلْوَىٰand [the] quailsكُلُوا۟Eatمِنfromطَيِّبَٰتِ(the) good thingsمَاthatرَزَقْنَٰكُمْWe have provided youوَمَاAnd notظَلَمُونَاthey wronged Usوَلَٰكِنbutكَانُوٓا۟they wereأَنفُسَهُمْ(to) themselvesيَظْلِمُونَdoing wrong57
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْنَاWe saidٱدْخُلُوا۟Enterهَٰذِهِthisٱلْقَرْيَةَtownفَكُلُوا۟then eatمِنْهَاfromحَيْثُwhereverشِئْتُمْyou wish[ed]رَغَدًاabundantlyوَٱدْخُلُوا۟and enterٱلْبَابَthe gateسُجَّدًاprostratingوَقُولُوا۟And sayحِطَّةٌRepentanceنَّغْفِرْWe will forgiveلَكُمْfor youخَطَٰيَٰكُمْyour sinsوَسَنَزِيدُAnd We will increaseٱلْمُحْسِنِينَthe good-doers (in reward)58
فَبَدَّلَBut changedٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوا۟wrongedقَوْلًا(the) wordغَيْرَother (than)ٱلَّذِى(that) whichقِيلَwas saidلَهُمْto themفَأَنزَلْنَاso We sent downعَلَىuponٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوا۟wrongedرِجْزًاa punishmentمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyبِمَاbecauseكَانُوا۟they wereيَفْسُقُونَdefiantly disobeying59
وَإِذِAnd whenٱسْتَسْقَىٰasked (for) waterمُوسَىٰMusaلِقَوْمِهِۦfor his peopleفَقُلْنَا[so] We saidٱضْرِبStrikeبِّعَصَاكَwith your staffٱلْحَجَرَthe stoneفَٱنفَجَرَتْThen gushed forthمِنْهُfrom itٱثْنَتَا(of)عَشْرَةَtwelveعَيْنًاspringsقَدْIndeedعَلِمَknewكُلُّallأُنَاسٍ(the) peopleمَّشْرَبَهُمْtheir drinking placeكُلُوا۟Eatوَٱشْرَبُوا۟and drinkمِنfromرِّزْقِ(the) provision (of)ٱللَّهِAllahوَلَاand (do) notتَعْثَوْا۟act wickedlyفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمُفْسِدِينَspreading corruption60
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْتُمْyou saidيَٰمُوسَىٰO MusaلَنNever (will)نَّصْبِرَwe endureعَلَىٰ[on]طَعَامٍfoodوَٰحِدٍ(of) one (kind)فَٱدْعُso prayلَنَاfor usرَبَّكَ(to) your Lordيُخْرِجْto bring forthلَنَاfor usمِمَّاout of whatتُنۢبِتُgrowsٱلْأَرْضُthe earthمِنۢofبَقْلِهَاits herbsوَقِثَّآئِهَا[and] its cucumbersوَفُومِهَا[and] its garlicوَعَدَسِهَا[and] its lentilsوَبَصَلِهَاand its onionsقَالَHe saidأَتَسْتَبْدِلُونَWould you exchangeٱلَّذِىthat whichهُوَ[it]أَدْنَىٰ(is) inferiorبِٱلَّذِىfor that whichهُوَ[it]خَيْرٌ(is) betterٱهْبِطُوا۟Go downمِصْرًا(to) a cityفَإِنَّso indeedلَكُمfor youمَّا(is) whatسَأَلْتُمْyou have asked (for)وَضُرِبَتْAnd were struckعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلذِّلَّةُthe humiliationوَٱلْمَسْكَنَةُand the miseryوَبَآءُوand they drew on themselvesبِغَضَبٍwrathمِّنَofٱللَّهِAllahذَٰلِكَThat (was)بِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyكَانُوا۟used toيَكْفُرُونَdisbelieveبِـَٔايَٰتِin (the) Signsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَيَقْتُلُونَand killٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَthe Prophetsبِغَيْرِwithout (any)ٱلْحَقِّ[the] rightذَٰلِكَThatبِمَا(was) becauseعَصَوا۟they disobeyedوَّكَانُوا۟and they wereيَعْتَدُونَtransgressing61
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believedوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoهَادُوا۟became Jewsوَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰand the Christiansوَٱلصَّٰبِـِٔينَand the Sabians مَنْwhoءَامَنَbelievedبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِ[the] Lastوَعَمِلَand didصَٰلِحًاrighteous deedsفَلَهُمْso for themأَجْرُهُمْtheir rewardعِندَ(is) withرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَلَاand noخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمْon themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَwill grieve62
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذْنَاWe tookمِيثَٰقَكُمْyour covenantوَرَفَعْنَاand We raisedفَوْقَكُمُover youٱلطُّورَthe mountخُذُوا۟HoldمَآwhatءَاتَيْنَٰكُمWe have given youبِقُوَّةٍwith strengthوَٱذْكُرُوا۟and rememberمَاwhatفِيهِ(is) in itلَعَلَّكُمْperhaps youتَتَّقُونَ(would become) righteous63
ثُمَّThenتَوَلَّيْتُمyou turned awayمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatفَلَوْلَاSo if notفَضْلُ(for the) Graceٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَرَحْمَتُهُۥand His Mercyلَكُنتُمsurely you would have beenمِّنَofٱلْخَٰسِرِينَthe losers64
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedعَلِمْتُمُyou knewٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱعْتَدَوْا۟transgressedمِنكُمْamong youفِىinٱلسَّبْتِthe (matter of) SabbathفَقُلْنَاSo We saidلَهُمْto themكُونُوا۟Beقِرَدَةًapesخَٰسِـِٔينَdespised65
فَجَعَلْنَٰهَاSo We made itنَكَٰلًاa deterrent punishmentلِّمَاfor thoseبَيْنَ(in) frontيَدَيْهَا(of) themوَمَاand thoseخَلْفَهَاafter themوَمَوْعِظَةًand an admonitionلِّلْمُتَّقِينَfor those who fear (Allah)66
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidمُوسَىٰMusaلِقَوْمِهِۦٓto his peopleإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahيَأْمُرُكُمْcommands youأَنthatتَذْبَحُوا۟you slaughterبَقَرَةًa cowقَالُوٓا۟They saidأَتَتَّخِذُنَاDo you take usهُزُوًا(in) ridiculeقَالَHe saidأَعُوذُI seek refugeبِٱللَّهِin AllahأَنْthatأَكُونَI beمِنَamongٱلْجَٰهِلِينَthe ignorant67
قَالُوا۟They saidٱدْعُPrayلَنَاfor usرَبَّكَ(to) your Lordيُبَيِّنto make clearلَّنَاto usمَاwhatهِىَit (is)قَالَHe saidإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heيَقُولُsaysإِنَّهَا[Indeed] itبَقَرَةٌ(is) a cowلَّاnotفَارِضٌoldوَلَاand notبِكْرٌyoungعَوَانٌۢmiddle agedبَيْنَbetweenذَٰلِكَthatفَٱفْعَلُوا۟so doمَاwhatتُؤْمَرُونَyou are commanded68
قَالُوا۟They saidٱدْعُPrayلَنَاfor usرَبَّكَ(to) your Lordيُبَيِّنto make clearلَّنَاto usمَاwhatلَوْنُهَا(is) its colorقَالَHe saidإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heيَقُولُsaysإِنَّهَا'[Indeed] it isبَقَرَةٌa cowصَفْرَآءُyellowفَاقِعٌbrightلَّوْنُهَا(in) its colorتَسُرُّpleasingٱلنَّٰظِرِينَ(to) those who see (it).'69
قَالُوا۟They saidٱدْعُPrayلَنَاfor usرَبَّكَ(to) your Lordيُبَيِّنto make clearلَّنَاto usمَاwhatهِىَit (is)إِنَّIndeedٱلْبَقَرَ[the] cowsتَشَٰبَهَlook alikeعَلَيْنَاto usوَإِنَّآAnd indeed weإِنifشَآءَwillsٱللَّهُAllahلَمُهْتَدُونَ(will) surely be those who are guided70
قَالَHe saidإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heيَقُولُsaysإِنَّهَا[Indeed] itبَقَرَةٌ(is) a cowلَّاnotذَلُولٌtrainedتُثِيرُto ploughٱلْأَرْضَthe earthوَلَاand notتَسْقِىwaterٱلْحَرْثَthe fieldمُسَلَّمَةٌsoundلَّاnoشِيَةَblemishفِيهَاin itقَالُوا۟They saidٱلْـَٰٔنَNowجِئْتَyou have comeبِٱلْحَقِّwith the truthفَذَبَحُوهَاSo they slaughtered itوَمَاand notكَادُوا۟they were nearيَفْعَلُونَ(to) doing (it)71
وَإِذْAnd whenقَتَلْتُمْyou killedنَفْسًاa manفَٱدَّٰرَْٰٔتُمْthen you disputedفِيهَاconcerning itوَٱللَّهُbut Allahمُخْرِجٌ(is) the One Who brought forthمَّاwhatكُنتُمْyou wereتَكْتُمُونَconcealing72
فَقُلْنَاSo We saidٱضْرِبُوهُStrike himبِبَعْضِهَاwith a part of itكَذَٰلِكَLike thisيُحْىِrevivesٱللَّهُAllahٱلْمَوْتَىٰthe deadوَيُرِيكُمْand shows youءَايَٰتِهِۦHis Signsلَعَلَّكُمْperhaps you mayتَعْقِلُونَuse your intellect73
ثُمَّThenقَسَتْhardenedقُلُوبُكُمyour heartsمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterذَٰلِكَthatفَهِىَso theyكَٱلْحِجَارَةِ(became) like [the] stonesأَوْorأَشَدُّstrongerقَسْوَةً(in) hardnessوَإِنَّAnd indeedمِنَfromٱلْحِجَارَةِthe stonesلَمَاcertainly (there are some) whichيَتَفَجَّرُgush forthمِنْهُfrom itٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ[the] riversوَإِنَّand indeedمِنْهَاfrom themلَمَاcertainly (there are some) whichيَشَّقَّقُsplitفَيَخْرُجُso comes outمِنْهُfrom itٱلْمَآءُ[the] waterوَإِنَّand indeedمِنْهَاfrom themلَمَاcertainly (there are some) whichيَهْبِطُfall downمِنْfromخَشْيَةِfearٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُ(is) Allahبِغَٰفِلٍunawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do74
أَفَتَطْمَعُونَDo you hopeأَنthatيُؤْمِنُوا۟they will believeلَكُمْ[for] youوَقَدْwhile indeedكَانَ(there) has beenفَرِيقٌa partyمِّنْهُمْof themيَسْمَعُونَ(who used to) hearكَلَٰمَ(the) wordsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahثُمَّthenيُحَرِّفُونَهُۥthey distort itمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]عَقَلُوهُthey understood itوَهُمْwhile theyيَعْلَمُونَknow75
وَإِذَاAnd whenلَقُوا۟they meetٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]قَالُوٓا۟they sayءَامَنَّاWe have believedوَإِذَاBut whenخَلَاmeet in privateبَعْضُهُمْsome of themإِلَىٰwithبَعْضٍsome (others)قَالُوٓا۟they sayأَتُحَدِّثُونَهُمDo you tell themبِمَاwhatفَتَحَhasٱللَّهُAllahعَلَيْكُمْto youلِيُحَآجُّوكُمso that they argue with youبِهِۦtherewithعِندَbeforeرَبِّكُمْyour LordأَفَلَاThen do (you) notتَعْقِلُونَunderstand76
أَوَلَاDo notيَعْلَمُونَthey knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahيَعْلَمُknowsمَاwhatيُسِرُّونَthey concealوَمَاand whatيُعْلِنُونَthey declare77
وَمِنْهُمْAnd among themأُمِّيُّونَ(are) unlettered onesلَا(who) do notيَعْلَمُونَknowٱلْكِتَٰبَthe bookإِلَّآexceptأَمَانِىَّwishful thinkingوَإِنْand notهُمْtheyإِلَّا(do anything) exceptيَظُنُّونَguess78
فَوَيْلٌSo woeلِّلَّذِينَto those whoيَكْتُبُونَwriteٱلْكِتَٰبَthe bookبِأَيْدِيهِمْwith their (own) handsثُمَّthenيَقُولُونَthey sayهَٰذَاThisمِنْ(is)عِندِfromٱللَّهِAllahلِيَشْتَرُوا۟to barterبِهِۦwith itثَمَنًا(for) a priceقَلِيلًاlittleفَوَيْلٌSo woeلَّهُمto themمِّمَّاfor whatكَتَبَتْhave writtenأَيْدِيهِمْtheir handsوَوَيْلٌand woeلَّهُمto themمِّمَّاfor whatيَكْسِبُونَthey earn79
وَقَالُوا۟And they sayلَنNeverتَمَسَّنَاwill touch usٱلنَّارُthe Fireإِلَّآexceptأَيَّامًا(for) daysمَّعْدُودَةًnumberedقُلْSayأَتَّخَذْتُمْHave you takenعِندَfromٱللَّهِAllahعَهْدًاa covenantفَلَنso neverيُخْلِفَwill breakٱللَّهُAllahعَهْدَهُۥٓHis CovenantأَمْOrتَقُولُونَ(do) you sayعَلَىagainstٱللَّهِAllahمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَyou know80
بَلَىٰYesمَنwhoeverكَسَبَearnedسَيِّئَةًevilوَأَحَٰطَتْand surrounded himبِهِۦwithخَطِيٓـَٔتُهُۥhis sins فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ[so] thoseأَصْحَٰبُ(are the) companionsٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fireهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever81
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoءَامَنُوا۟believedوَعَمِلُوا۟and didٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِrighteous deedsأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseأَصْحَٰبُ(are the) companionsٱلْجَنَّةِ(of) Paradiseهُمْtheyفِيهَاin itخَٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever82
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذْنَاWe tookمِيثَٰقَ(the) covenantبَنِىٓ(from the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) IsraelلَاNotتَعْبُدُونَyou will worshipإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهَAllahوَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِand with [the] parentsإِحْسَانًا(be) goodوَذِىand (with)ٱلْقُرْبَىٰrelativesوَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰand [the] orphansوَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِand the needyوَقُولُوا۟and speakلِلنَّاسِto [the] peopleحُسْنًاgoodوَأَقِيمُوا۟and establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَءَاتُوا۟and giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَthe zakahثُمَّThenتَوَلَّيْتُمْyou turned awayإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa fewمِّنكُمْof youوَأَنتُمand you (were)مُّعْرِضُونَrefusing83
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذْنَاWe tookمِيثَٰقَكُمْyour covenantلَاNotتَسْفِكُونَwill you shedدِمَآءَكُمْyour bloodوَلَاand notتُخْرِجُونَ(will) evictأَنفُسَكُمyourselvesمِّنfromدِيَٰرِكُمْyour homesثُمَّthenأَقْرَرْتُمْyou ratifiedوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَشْهَدُونَ(were) witnessing84
ثُمَّThenأَنتُمْyouهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ(are) thoseتَقْتُلُونَ(who) killأَنفُسَكُمْyourselvesوَتُخْرِجُونَand evictفَرِيقًاa partyمِّنكُمof youمِّنfromدِيَٰرِهِمْtheir homesتَظَٰهَرُونَyou support one anotherعَلَيْهِمagainst themبِٱلْإِثْمِin sinوَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِand [the] transgressionوَإِنAnd ifيَأْتُوكُمْthey come to youأُسَٰرَىٰ(as) captivesتُفَٰدُوهُمْyou ransom themوَهُوَwhile itمُحَرَّمٌ(was) forbiddenعَلَيْكُمْto youإِخْرَاجُهُمْtheir evictionأَفَتُؤْمِنُونَSo do you believeبِبَعْضِin part (of)ٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Bookوَتَكْفُرُونَand disbelieveبِبَعْضٍin partفَمَاThen whatجَزَآءُ(should be the) recompenseمَن(for the one) whoيَفْعَلُdoesذَٰلِكَthatمِنكُمْamong youإِلَّاexceptخِزْىٌdisgraceفِىinٱلْحَيَوٰةِthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَيَوْمَand (on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِof [the] Resurrectionيُرَدُّونَthey will be sent backإِلَىٰٓtoأَشَدِّ(the) most severeٱلْعَذَابِpunishmentوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُ(is) Allahبِغَٰفِلٍunawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do85
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseٱلَّذِينَ(are) the ones whoٱشْتَرَوُا۟boughtٱلْحَيَوٰةَthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldبِٱلْءَاخِرَةِfor the Hereafterفَلَاso notيُخَفَّفُwill be lightenedعَنْهُمُfor themٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيُنصَرُونَwill be helped86
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedءَاتَيْنَاWe gaveمُوسَىMusaٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookوَقَفَّيْنَاand We followed upمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦafter himبِٱلرُّسُلِwith [the] MessengersوَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gaveعِيسَىIsaٱبْنَ(the) sonمَرْيَمَ(of) Maryamٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ[the] clear signsوَأَيَّدْنَٰهُand We supported himبِرُوحِ(with)ٱلْقُدُسِthe Holy SpiritأَفَكُلَّمَاIs it (not) so (that) wheneverجَآءَكُمْcame to youرَسُولٌۢa Messengerبِمَاwith whatلَا(does) notتَهْوَىٰٓdesireأَنفُسُكُمُyourselvesٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْyou acted arrogantlyفَفَرِيقًاSo a partyكَذَّبْتُمْyou deniedوَفَرِيقًاand a partyتَقْتُلُونَyou kill(ed)87
وَقَالُوا۟And they saidقُلُوبُنَاOur heartsغُلْفٌۢ(are) wrappedبَلNayلَّعَنَهُمُhas cursed themٱللَّهُAllahبِكُفْرِهِمْfor their disbeliefفَقَلِيلًاso littleمَّا(is) whatيُؤْمِنُونَthey believe88
وَلَمَّاAnd whenجَآءَهُمْcame to themكِتَٰبٌa BookمِّنْofعِندِfromٱللَّهِAllahمُصَدِّقٌconfirmingلِّمَاwhat (was)مَعَهُمْwith themوَكَانُوا۟though they used toمِنfromقَبْلُbeforeيَسْتَفْتِحُونَ(that), pray for victoryعَلَىoverٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieved فَلَمَّاthen whenجَآءَهُمcame to themمَّاwhatعَرَفُوا۟they recognizedكَفَرُوا۟they disbelievedبِهِۦin itفَلَعْنَةُSo (the) curseٱللَّهِ(of) Allahعَلَى(is) onٱلْكَٰفِرِينَthe disbelievers89
بِئْسَمَاEvil (is) thatٱشْتَرَوْا۟(for) which they have soldبِهِۦٓwithأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesأَنthatيَكْفُرُوا۟they disbelieveبِمَآin whatأَنزَلَhas revealedٱللَّهُAllahبَغْيًاgrudgingأَنthatيُنَزِّلَsends downٱللَّهُAllahمِنofفَضْلِهِۦHis GraceعَلَىٰonمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsمِنْfromعِبَادِهِۦHis servantsفَبَآءُوSo they have drawn (on themselves)بِغَضَبٍwrathعَلَىٰuponغَضَبٍwrathوَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَAnd for the disbelieversعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمُّهِينٌhumiliating90
وَإِذَاAnd whenقِيلَit is saidلَهُمْto themءَامِنُوا۟Believeبِمَآin whatأَنزَلَhas revealedٱللَّهُAllahقَالُوا۟they sayنُؤْمِنُWe believeبِمَآin whatأُنزِلَwas revealedعَلَيْنَاto usوَيَكْفُرُونَAnd they disbelieveبِمَاin whatوَرَآءَهُۥ(is) besides itوَهُوَwhile itٱلْحَقُّ(is) the truthمُصَدِّقًاconfirmingلِّمَاwhatمَعَهُمْ(is) with themقُلْSayفَلِمَThen whyتَقْتُلُونَ(did) you killأَنۢبِيَآءَ(the) Prophetsٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمِنfromقَبْلُbeforeإِنifكُنتُمyou wereمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers91
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedجَآءَكُمcame to youمُّوسَىٰMusaبِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِwith [the] clear signsثُمَّthenٱتَّخَذْتُمُyou tookٱلْعِجْلَthe calfمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦafter himوَأَنتُمْand youظَٰلِمُونَ(were) wrongdoers92
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذْنَاWe tookمِيثَٰقَكُمْyour covenantوَرَفَعْنَاand We raisedفَوْقَكُمُover youٱلطُّورَthe mountخُذُوا۟HoldمَآwhatءَاتَيْنَٰكُمWe gave youبِقُوَّةٍwith firmnessوَٱسْمَعُوا۟and listenقَالُوا۟They saidسَمِعْنَاWe heardوَعَصَيْنَاand we disobeyedوَأُشْرِبُوا۟And they were made to drinkفِىinقُلُوبِهِمُtheir heartsٱلْعِجْلَ(love of) the calfبِكُفْرِهِمْbecause of their disbeliefقُلْSayبِئْسَمَاEvil (is) thatيَأْمُرُكُمorders you (to do) itبِهِۦٓwithإِيمَٰنُكُمْyour faithإِنifكُنتُمyou areمُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers93
قُلْSayإِنIf كَانَتْisلَكُمُfor youٱلدَّارُthe homeٱلْءَاخِرَةُ(of) the HereafterعِندَwithٱللَّهِAllahخَالِصَةًexclusivelyمِّنfromدُونِexcludingٱلنَّاسِthe mankindفَتَمَنَّوُا۟then wishٱلْمَوْتَ(for) [the] deathإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful94
وَلَنAnd never (will)يَتَمَنَّوْهُthey wish for itأَبَدًۢاeverبِمَاbecauseقَدَّمَتْ(of what) sent aheadأَيْدِيهِمْtheir handsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلِيمٌۢ(is) All-Knowerبِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَof the wrongdoers95
وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْAnd surely you will find themأَحْرَصَ(the) most greedyٱلنَّاسِ(of) [the] mankindعَلَىٰforحَيَوٰةٍlifeوَمِنَand (greedier) thanٱلَّذِينَthose whoأَشْرَكُوا۟associate[d] partners (with Allah)يَوَدُّLovesأَحَدُهُمْ(each) one of themلَوْifيُعَمَّرُhe could be granted a lifeأَلْفَ(of) a thousandسَنَةٍyear(s)وَمَاBut notهُوَitبِمُزَحْزِحِهِۦ(will) remove himمِنَfromٱلْعَذَابِthe punishmentأَنthatيُعَمَّرَhe should be granted lifeوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahبَصِيرٌۢ(is) All-Seerبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey do96
قُلْSayمَنWhoeverكَانَisعَدُوًّاan enemyلِّجِبْرِيلَto Jibreel فَإِنَّهُۥthen indeed heنَزَّلَهُۥbrought it downعَلَىٰonقَلْبِكَyour heartبِإِذْنِby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ(of) Allahمُصَدِّقًاconfirmingلِّمَاwhatبَيْنَ(was)يَدَيْهِbefore itوَهُدًىand a guidanceوَبُشْرَىٰand glad tiding(s)لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believers97
مَنWhoeverكَانَisعَدُوًّاan enemyلِّلَّهِ(to) Allahوَمَلَٰٓئِكَتِهِۦand His Angelsوَرُسُلِهِۦand His Messengersوَجِبْرِيلَand Jibreelوَمِيكَىٰلَand Meekaelفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahعَدُوٌّ(is) an enemyلِّلْكَٰفِرِينَto the disbelievers98
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedأَنزَلْنَآWe revealedإِلَيْكَto youءَايَٰتٍۢVersesبَيِّنَٰتٍclearوَمَاand notيَكْفُرُdisbelievesبِهَآin themإِلَّاexceptٱلْفَٰسِقُونَthe defiantly disobedient99
أَوَكُلَّمَاAnd is (it not that) wheneverعَٰهَدُوا۟they tookعَهْدًاa covenantنَّبَذَهُۥthrew it awayفَرِيقٌa partyمِّنْهُمof themبَلْNayأَكْثَرُهُمْmost of themلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieve100
وَلَمَّاAnd whenجَآءَهُمْcame to themرَسُولٌa Messengerمِّنْ(of)عِندِfromٱللَّهِAllahمُصَدِّقٌconfirmingلِّمَاwhatمَعَهُمْ(was) with themنَبَذَthrew awayفَرِيقٌa partyمِّنَofٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookكِتَٰبَ(the) Bookٱللَّهِ(of) Allahوَرَآءَbehindظُهُورِهِمْtheir backsكَأَنَّهُمْas if theyلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknow101
وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟And they followedمَاwhatتَتْلُوا۟recite(d)ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُthe devilsعَلَىٰoverمُلْكِ(the) kingdomسُلَيْمَٰنَ(of) SulaimanوَمَاAnd notكَفَرَdisbelievedسُلَيْمَٰنُSulaimanوَلَٰكِنَّ[and] butٱلشَّيَٰطِينَthe devilsكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedيُعَلِّمُونَthey teachٱلنَّاسَthe peopleٱلسِّحْرَ[the] magicوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas sent downعَلَىtoٱلْمَلَكَيْنِthe two angelsبِبَابِلَin BabylonهَٰرُوتَHarutوَمَٰرُوتَand MarutوَمَاAnd notيُعَلِّمَانِthey both teachمِنْanyأَحَدٍoneحَتَّىٰunlessيَقُولَآthey [both] sayإِنَّمَاOnlyنَحْنُweفِتْنَةٌ(are) a trialفَلَاso (do) notتَكْفُرْdisbelieveفَيَتَعَلَّمُونَBut they learnمِنْهُمَاfrom those twoمَاwhatيُفَرِّقُونَ[they] causes separationبِهِۦwith itبَيْنَbetweenٱلْمَرْءِthe manوَزَوْجِهِۦand his spouseوَمَاAnd notهُمthey (could)بِضَآرِّينَat all [be those who] harmبِهِۦwith itمِنْanyأَحَدٍoneإِلَّاexceptبِإِذْنِby permissionٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَيَتَعَلَّمُونَAnd they learnمَاwhatيَضُرُّهُمْharms themوَلَاand notيَنفَعُهُمْprofits themوَلَقَدْAnd indeedعَلِمُوا۟they knewلَمَنِthat whoeverٱشْتَرَىٰهُbuys itمَاnotلَهُۥfor himفِىinٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe HereafterمِنْanyخَلَٰقٍshareوَلَبِئْسَAnd surely evilمَا(is) whatشَرَوْا۟they soldبِهِۦٓwith itأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesلَوْifكَانُوا۟they wereيَعْلَمُونَ(to) know102
وَلَوْAnd ifأَنَّهُمْ[that] theyءَامَنُوا۟(had) believedوَٱتَّقَوْا۟and feared (Allah)لَمَثُوبَةٌsurely (the) rewardمِّنْ(of)عِندِfromٱللَّهِAllahخَيْرٌ(would have been) betterلَّوْifكَانُوا۟they wereيَعْلَمُونَ(to) know103
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believe[d]لَا(Do) notتَقُولُوا۟sayرَٰعِنَاRainaوَقُولُوا۟and sayٱنظُرْنَاUnzurnaوَٱسْمَعُوا۟and listenوَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَAnd for the disbelieversعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentأَلِيمٌpainful104
مَّا(Do) notيَوَدُّlikeٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveمِنْfromأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the Bookوَلَاand notٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthose who associate partners (with Allah)أَنthatيُنَزَّلَ(there should) be sent downعَلَيْكُمto youمِّنْanyخَيْرٍgoodمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour LordوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahيَخْتَصُّchoosesبِرَحْمَتِهِۦfor His MercyمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahذُو(is the) Possessorٱلْفَضْلِ(of) [the] Bountyٱلْعَظِيمِ[the] Great105
مَاWhatنَنسَخْWe abrogateمِنْ(of)ءَايَةٍa signأَوْorنُنسِهَا[We] cause it to be forgottenنَأْتِWe bringبِخَيْرٍbetterمِّنْهَآthan itأَوْorمِثْلِهَآsimilar (to) itأَلَمْDo notتَعْلَمْyou knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰoverكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌ(is) All-Powerful106
أَلَمْDo notتَعْلَمْyou knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahلَهُۥfor Himمُلْكُ(is the) Kingdomٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاAnd notلَكُم(is) for youمِّنfromدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahمِنanyوَلِىٍّprotectorوَلَاand notنَصِيرٍany helper107
أَمْOrتُرِيدُونَ(do) you wishأَنthatتَسْـَٔلُوا۟you askرَسُولَكُمْyour Messengerكَمَاasسُئِلَwas askedمُوسَىٰMusaمِنfromقَبْلُbeforeوَمَنAnd whoeverيَتَبَدَّلِexchangesٱلْكُفْرَ[the] disbeliefبِٱلْإِيمَٰنِwith [the] faithفَقَدْso certainlyضَلَّhe went astray (from)سَوَآءَ(the) evennessٱلسَّبِيلِ(of) the way108
وَدَّWish[ed]كَثِيرٌmanyمِّنْfromأَهْلِ(the) Peopleٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the Bookلَوْifيَرُدُّونَكُمthey could turn you backمِّنۢfromبَعْدِafterإِيمَٰنِكُمْyour (having) faithكُفَّارًا(to) disbelieversحَسَدًا(out of) jealousyمِّنْfromعِندِ(of)أَنفُسِهِمthemselvesمِّنۢ(even) fromبَعْدِafterمَا[what]تَبَيَّنَbecame clearلَهُمُto themٱلْحَقُّthe truthفَٱعْفُوا۟So forgiveوَٱصْفَحُوا۟and overlookحَتَّىٰuntilيَأْتِىَbringsٱللَّهُAllahبِأَمْرِهِۦٓHis CommandإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَلَىٰonكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingقَدِيرٌ(is) All-Powerful109
وَأَقِيمُوا۟And establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَءَاتُوا۟and giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَ[the] zakahوَمَاAnd whateverتُقَدِّمُوا۟you send forthلِأَنفُسِكُمfor yourselvesمِّنْofخَيْرٍgood (deeds)تَجِدُوهُyou will find itعِندَwithٱللَّهِAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahبِمَاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou doبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seer110
وَقَالُوا۟And they saidلَنNeverيَدْخُلَwill enterٱلْجَنَّةَthe Paradiseإِلَّاexceptمَنwhoكَانَisهُودًا(a) Jew[s]أَوْorنَصَٰرَىٰ(a) Christian[s]تِلْكَThatأَمَانِيُّهُمْ(is) their wishful thinkingقُلْSayهَاتُوا۟Bringبُرْهَٰنَكُمْyour proofإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَ[those who are] truthful111
بَلَىٰYesمَنْwhoeverأَسْلَمَsubmitsوَجْهَهُۥhis faceلِلَّهِto Allahوَهُوَand heمُحْسِنٌ(is) a good-doerفَلَهُۥٓso for himأَجْرُهُۥ(is) his rewardعِندَwithرَبِّهِۦhis LordوَلَاAnd noخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمْ(will be) on themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَ(will) grieve112
وَقَالَتِAnd saidٱلْيَهُودُthe JewsلَيْسَتِNotٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰthe Christiansعَلَىٰ(are) onشَىْءٍanythingوَقَالَتِand saidٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰthe ChristiansلَيْسَتِNotٱلْيَهُودُthe Jewsعَلَىٰ(are) onشَىْءٍanythingوَهُمْalthough theyيَتْلُونَreciteٱلْكِتَٰبَthe BookكَذَٰلِكَLike thatقَالَsaidٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknowمِثْلَsimilarقَوْلِهِمْtheir sayingفَٱللَّهُ[So] Allahيَحْكُمُwill judgeبَيْنَهُمْbetween themيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) Resurrectionفِيمَاin whatكَانُوا۟they wereفِيهِ[in it]يَخْتَلِفُونَdiffering113
وَمَنْAnd whoأَظْلَمُ(is) more unjustمِمَّنthan (one) whoمَّنَعَpreventsمَسَٰجِدَ(the) masajidٱللَّهِ(of) Allahأَنtoيُذْكَرَbe mentionedفِيهَاin themٱسْمُهُۥHis nameوَسَعَىٰand strivesفِىforخَرَابِهَآtheir destructionأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseمَاNotكَانَit isلَهُمْfor themأَنthatيَدْخُلُوهَآthey enter themإِلَّاexceptخَآئِفِينَ(like) those in fearلَهُمْFor themفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldخِزْىٌ(is) disgraceوَلَهُمْand for themفِىinٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe Hereafterعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat114
وَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahٱلْمَشْرِقُ(is) the eastوَٱلْمَغْرِبُand the westفَأَيْنَمَاso whereverتُوَلُّوا۟you turnفَثَمَّ[so] thereوَجْهُ(is the) faceٱللَّهِ(of) AllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahوَٰسِعٌ(is) All-EncompassingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing115
وَقَالُوا۟And they saidٱتَّخَذَhas takenٱللَّهُAllahوَلَدًاa sonسُبْحَٰنَهُۥGlory be to HimبَلNayلَّهُۥfor Himمَا(is) whatفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthكُلٌّAllلَّهُۥto Himقَٰنِتُونَ(are) humbly obedient116
بَدِيعُ(The) Originatorٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَإِذَاAnd whenقَضَىٰٓHe decreesأَمْرًاa matterفَإِنَّمَا[so] onlyيَقُولُHe saysلَهُۥto itكُنBeفَيَكُونُand it becomes117
وَقَالَAnd saidٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknowلَوْلَاWhy notيُكَلِّمُنَاspeaks to usٱللَّهُAllahأَوْorتَأْتِينَآcomes to usءَايَةٌa signكَذَٰلِكَLike thatقَالَsaidٱلَّذِينَthoseمِنfromقَبْلِهِمbefore themمِّثْلَsimilarقَوْلِهِمْtheir sayingتَشَٰبَهَتْBecame alikeقُلُوبُهُمْtheir heartsقَدْIndeedبَيَّنَّاWe have made clearٱلْءَايَٰتِthe signsلِقَوْمٍfor peopleيُوقِنُونَ(who) firmly believe118
إِنَّآIndeed Weأَرْسَلْنَٰكَ[We] have sent youبِٱلْحَقِّwith the truthبَشِيرًا(as) a bearer of good newsوَنَذِيرًاand (as) a warnerوَلَاAnd notتُسْـَٔلُyou will be askedعَنْaboutأَصْحَٰبِ(the) companionsٱلْجَحِيمِ(of) the blazing Fire119
وَلَنAnd neverتَرْضَىٰwill be pleasedعَنكَwith youٱلْيَهُودُthe Jewsوَلَاand [not]ٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰthe Christiansحَتَّىٰuntilتَتَّبِعَyou followمِلَّتَهُمْtheir religionقُلْSayإِنَّIndeedهُدَى(the) Guidanceٱللَّهِ(of) Allahهُوَitٱلْهُدَىٰ(is) the GuidanceوَلَئِنِAnd ifٱتَّبَعْتَyou followأَهْوَآءَهُمtheir desiresبَعْدَafterٱلَّذِىwhatجَآءَكَhas come to youمِنَofٱلْعِلْمِthe knowledgeمَاnotلَكَfor youمِنَfromٱللَّهِAllahمِنanyوَلِىٍّprotectorوَلَاand notنَصِيرٍany helper120
ٱلَّذِينَThoseءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُWe have given themٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookيَتْلُونَهُۥrecite itحَقَّ(as it has the) rightتِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ(of) its recitationأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose (people)يُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِهِۦin itوَمَنAnd whoeverيَكْفُرْdisbelievesبِهِۦin itفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُtheyٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ(are) the losers121
يَٰبَنِىٓO Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelٱذْكُرُوا۟RememberنِعْمَتِىَMy FavorٱلَّتِىٓwhichأَنْعَمْتُI bestowedعَلَيْكُمْupon youوَأَنِّىand that Iفَضَّلْتُكُمْ[I] preferred youعَلَىoverٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe worlds122
وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearيَوْمًاa dayلَّاnotتَجْزِىwill availنَفْسٌa soulعَن(of)نَّفْسٍ(another) soulشَيْـًٔاanythingوَلَاand notيُقْبَلُwill be acceptedمِنْهَاfrom itعَدْلٌany compensationوَلَاand notتَنفَعُهَاwill benefit itشَفَٰعَةٌany intercessionوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيُنصَرُونَwill be helped123
وَإِذِAnd whenٱبْتَلَىٰٓtriedإِبْرَٰهِۦمَIbrahimرَبُّهُۥhis Lordبِكَلِمَٰتٍwith wordsفَأَتَمَّهُنَّand he fulfilled themقَالَHe saidإِنِّىIndeed Iجَاعِلُكَ(am) the One to make youلِلنَّاسِfor the mankindإِمَامًاa leaderقَالَHe saidوَمِنAnd fromذُرِّيَّتِىmy offspringقَالَHe saidلَا(Does) notيَنَالُreachعَهْدِىMy Covenantٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ(to) the wrongdoers124
وَإِذْAnd whenجَعَلْنَاWe madeٱلْبَيْتَthe Houseمَثَابَةًa place of returnلِّلنَّاسِfor mankindوَأَمْنًاand (a place of) securityوَٱتَّخِذُوا۟and (said), "Takeمِن[from]مَّقَامِ(the) standing placeإِبْرَٰهِۦمَ(of) Ibrahimمُصَلًّى(as) a place of prayerوَعَهِدْنَآAnd We made a covenantإِلَىٰٓwithإِبْرَٰهِۦمَIbrahimوَإِسْمَٰعِيلَand Ishmaelأَن[that]طَهِّرَا[You both] purifyبَيْتِىَMy Houseلِلطَّآئِفِينَfor those who circumambulateوَٱلْعَٰكِفِينَand those who seclude themselves for devotion and prayerوَٱلرُّكَّعِand those who bow downٱلسُّجُودِand those who prostrate125
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidإِبْرَٰهِۦمُIbrahimرَبِّMy Lordٱجْعَلْmakeهَٰذَاthisبَلَدًاa cityءَامِنًاsecureوَٱرْزُقْand provideأَهْلَهُۥits peopleمِنَwithٱلثَّمَرَٰتِfruitsمَنْ(to) whoeverءَامَنَbelievedمِنْهُمfrom themبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَٱلْيَوْمِand the Dayٱلْءَاخِرِthe LastقَالَHe saidوَمَنAnd whoeverكَفَرَdisbelievedفَأُمَتِّعُهُۥ[then] I will grant him enjoymentقَلِيلًاa littleثُمَّthenأَضْطَرُّهُۥٓI will force himإِلَىٰtoعَذَابِ(the) punishmentٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fireوَبِئْسَand evilٱلْمَصِيرُ(is) the destination126
وَإِذْAnd whenيَرْفَعُ(was) raisingإِبْرَٰهِۦمُIbrahimٱلْقَوَاعِدَthe foundationsمِنَofٱلْبَيْتِthe Houseوَإِسْمَٰعِيلُand Ishmaelرَبَّنَا(saying), "Our LordتَقَبَّلْAcceptمِنَّآfrom usإِنَّكَIndeed Youأَنتَ[You] (are)ٱلسَّمِيعُthe All-Hearingٱلْعَلِيمُthe All-Knowing127
رَبَّنَاOur Lordوَٱجْعَلْنَا[and] Make usمُسْلِمَيْنِboth submissiveلَكَto YouوَمِنAnd fromذُرِّيَّتِنَآour offspringأُمَّةًa communityمُّسْلِمَةًsubmissiveلَّكَto YouوَأَرِنَاAnd show usمَنَاسِكَنَاour ways of worshipوَتُبْand turnعَلَيْنَآto usإِنَّكَIndeed Youأَنتَ[You] (are)ٱلتَّوَّابُthe Oft-returningٱلرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful128
رَبَّنَاOur Lordوَٱبْعَثْ[And] raise upفِيهِمْin themرَسُولًاa Messengerمِّنْهُمْfrom themيَتْلُوا۟(who) will reciteعَلَيْهِمْto themءَايَٰتِكَYour Versesوَيُعَلِّمُهُمُand will teach themٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookوَٱلْحِكْمَةَand the wisdomوَيُزَكِّيهِمْand purify themإِنَّكَIndeed YouأَنتَYou (are)ٱلْعَزِيزُthe All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise129
وَمَنAnd whoيَرْغَبُwill turn awayعَنfromمِّلَّةِ(the) religionإِبْرَٰهِۦمَ(of) IbrahimإِلَّاexceptمَنwhoسَفِهَfooledنَفْسَهُۥhimselfوَلَقَدِAnd indeedٱصْطَفَيْنَٰهُWe chose himفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاthe worldوَإِنَّهُۥand indeed heفِىinٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe Hereafterلَمِنَsurely (will be) amongٱلصَّٰلِحِينَthe righteous130
إِذْWhenقَالَsaidلَهُۥto himرَبُّهُۥٓhis LordأَسْلِمْSubmit (yourself)قَالَhe saidأَسْلَمْتُI (have) submitted (myself)لِرَبِّto (the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds131
وَوَصَّىٰAnd enjoinedبِهَآ[it]إِبْرَٰهِۦمُIbrahimبَنِيهِ(upon) his sonsوَيَعْقُوبُand YaqubيَٰبَنِىَّO my sonsإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahٱصْطَفَىٰhas chosenلَكُمُfor youٱلدِّينَthe religionفَلَاso notتَمُوتُنَّ(should) you dieإِلَّاexceptوَأَنتُمwhile youمُّسْلِمُونَ(are) submissive132
أَمْOrكُنتُمْwere youشُهَدَآءَwitnessesإِذْwhenحَضَرَcame toيَعْقُوبَYaqubٱلْمَوْتُ[the] deathإِذْwhenقَالَhe saidلِبَنِيهِto his sonsمَاWhatتَعْبُدُونَwill you worshipمِنۢfromبَعْدِىafter meقَالُوا۟They saidنَعْبُدُWe will worshipإِلَٰهَكَyour Godوَإِلَٰهَand (the) Godءَابَآئِكَ(of) your forefathersإِبْرَٰهِۦمَIbrahimوَإِسْمَٰعِيلَand Ishmaelوَإِسْحَٰقَand Isaac إِلَٰهًاGodوَٰحِدًاOneوَنَحْنُAnd weلَهُۥto Himمُسْلِمُونَ(are) submissive133
تِلْكَThisأُمَّةٌ(was) a communityقَدْ(which)خَلَتْhas passed awayلَهَاfor itمَاwhatكَسَبَتْit earnedوَلَكُمand for youمَّاwhatكَسَبْتُمْyou have earnedوَلَاAnd notتُسْـَٔلُونَyou will be askedعَمَّاabout whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَعْمَلُونَdo134
وَقَالُوا۟And they saidكُونُوا۟BeهُودًاJewsأَوْorنَصَٰرَىٰChristiansتَهْتَدُوا۟(then) you will be guidedقُلْSayبَلْNayمِلَّةَ(the) religionإِبْرَٰهِۦمَ(of) Ibrahimحَنِيفًا(the) uprightوَمَاand notكَانَhe wasمِنَofٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthose who associated partners (with Allah)135
قُولُوٓا۟SayءَامَنَّاWe have believedبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَ(is) revealedإِلَيْنَاto usوَمَآand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَىٰٓtoإِبْرَٰهِۦمَIbrahimوَإِسْمَٰعِيلَand Ishmaelوَإِسْحَٰقَand Isaacوَيَعْقُوبَand Yaqubوَٱلْأَسْبَاطِand the descendantsوَمَآand whatأُوتِىَwas givenمُوسَىٰ(to) Musaوَعِيسَىٰand Isaوَمَآand whatأُوتِىَwas givenٱلنَّبِيُّونَ(to) the Prophetsمِنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir LordلَاNotنُفَرِّقُwe make distinctionبَيْنَbetweenأَحَدٍanyمِّنْهُمْof themوَنَحْنُAnd weلَهُۥto Himمُسْلِمُونَ(are) submissive136
فَإِنْSo ifءَامَنُوا۟they believe[d]بِمِثْلِin (the) likeمَآ(of) whatءَامَنتُمyou have believedبِهِۦin [it]فَقَدِthen indeedٱهْتَدَوا۟they are (rightly) guidedوَّإِنBut ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn awayفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyهُمْtheyفِى(are) inشِقَاقٍdissensionفَسَيَكْفِيكَهُمُSo will suffice you against themٱللَّهُAllahوَهُوَand Heٱلسَّمِيعُ(is) the All-Hearingٱلْعَلِيمُthe All-Knowing137
صِبْغَةَ(The) color (religion)ٱللَّهِ(of) AllahوَمَنْAnd whoأَحْسَنُ(is) betterمِنَthanٱللَّهِAllahصِبْغَةًat coloringوَنَحْنُAnd weلَهُۥto Himعَٰبِدُونَ(are) worshippers138
قُلْSayأَتُحَآجُّونَنَاDo you argue with usفِىaboutٱللَّهِAllahوَهُوَwhile Heرَبُّنَا(is) our Lordوَرَبُّكُمْand your LordوَلَنَآAnd for usأَعْمَٰلُنَا(are) our deedsوَلَكُمْand for youأَعْمَٰلُكُمْ(are) your deedsوَنَحْنُand weلَهُۥto Himمُخْلِصُونَ(are) sincere139
أَمْOrتَقُولُونَ(do) you sayإِنَّthatإِبْرَٰهِۦمَIbrahimوَإِسْمَٰعِيلَand Ishmaelوَإِسْحَٰقَand Isaacوَيَعْقُوبَand Yaqubوَٱلْأَسْبَاطَand the descendantsكَانُوا۟wereهُودًاJewsأَوْorنَصَٰرَىٰChristiansقُلْSayءَأَنتُمْAre youأَعْلَمُbetter knowingأَمِorٱللَّهُ(is) AllahوَمَنْAnd whoأَظْلَمُ(is) more unjustمِمَّنthan (the one) whoكَتَمَconcealedشَهَٰدَةًa testimonyعِندَهُۥ(that) he hasمِنَfromٱللَّهِAllahوَمَاAnd notٱللَّهُ(is) Allahبِغَٰفِلٍunawareعَمَّاof whatتَعْمَلُونَyou do140
