سُبْحَٰنَExaltedٱلَّذِىٓ(is) the One WhoأَسْرَىٰtookبِعَبْدِهِۦHis servantلَيْلًا(by) nightمِّنَfromٱلْمَسْجِدِAl-Masjid Al-HaraamٱلْحَرَامِAl-Masjid Al-HaraamإِلَىtoٱلْمَسْجِدِAl-Masjid Al-AqsaٱلْأَقْصَاAl-Masjid Al-AqsaٱلَّذِىwhichبَٰرَكْنَاWe blessedحَوْلَهُۥits surroundingsلِنُرِيَهُۥthat We may show himمِنْofءَايَٰتِنَآOur SignsإِنَّهُۥIndeed HeهُوَHeٱلسَّمِيعُ(is) the All-Hearerٱلْبَصِيرُthe All-Seer1
وَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gaveمُوسَىMusaٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookوَجَعَلْنَٰهُand made itهُدًىa guidanceلِّبَنِىٓfor the Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) IsraelأَلَّاThat notتَتَّخِذُوا۟you takeمِنother than Meدُونِىother than Meوَكِيلًا(as) a Disposer of affairs2
ذُرِّيَّةَOffspringsمَنْ(of one) whoحَمَلْنَاWe carriedمَعَwithنُوحٍNuhإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heكَانَwasعَبْدًاa servantشَكُورًاgrateful3
وَقَضَيْنَآAnd We decreedإِلَىٰforبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelفِىinٱلْكِتَٰبِthe BookلَتُفْسِدُنَّSurely you will cause corruptionفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمَرَّتَيْنِtwiceوَلَتَعْلُنَّand surely you will reachعُلُوًّاhaughtinessكَبِيرًاgreat4
فَإِذَاSo whenجَآءَcameوَعْدُ(the) promiseأُولَىٰهُمَا(for) the first of the twoبَعَثْنَاWe raisedعَلَيْكُمْagainst youعِبَادًاservantsلَّنَآof Oursأُو۟لِىthose of great military mightبَأْسٍthose of great military mightشَدِيدٍthose of great military mightفَجَاسُوا۟and they enteredخِلَٰلَthe inner most partٱلدِّيَارِ(of) the homesوَكَانَand (it) wasوَعْدًاa promiseمَّفْعُولًاfulfilled5
ثُمَّThenرَدَدْنَاWe gave backلَكُمُto youٱلْكَرَّةَthe return victoryعَلَيْهِمْover themوَأَمْدَدْنَٰكُمAnd We reinforced youبِأَمْوَٰلٍwith the wealthوَبَنِينَand sonsوَجَعَلْنَٰكُمْand made youأَكْثَرَmoreنَفِيرًاnumerous6
إِنْIfأَحْسَنتُمْyou do goodأَحْسَنتُمْyou do goodلِأَنفُسِكُمْfor yourselvesوَإِنْand ifأَسَأْتُمْyou do evilفَلَهَاthen it is for itفَإِذَاSo whenجَآءَcameوَعْدُpromiseٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe lastلِيَسُۥٓـُٔوا۟to saddenوُجُوهَكُمْyour facesوَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟and to enterٱلْمَسْجِدَthe Masjidكَمَاjust asدَخَلُوهُthey (had) entered itأَوَّلَfirstمَرَّةٍtimeوَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟and to destroyمَاwhatعَلَوْا۟they had conqueredتَتْبِيرًا(with) destruction7
عَسَىٰ(It) may beرَبُّكُمْthat your Lordأَنthat your Lordيَرْحَمَكُمْ(may) have mercy upon youوَإِنْBut ifعُدتُّمْyou returnعُدْنَاWe will returnوَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have madeجَهَنَّمَHellلِلْكَٰفِرِينَfor the disbelieversحَصِيرًاa prison-bed8
إِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quranيَهْدِىguidesلِلَّتِىto thatهِىَwhichأَقْوَمُ(is) most straightوَيُبَشِّرُand gives glad tidingsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believers ٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَعْمَلُونَdoٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِthe righteous deedsأَنَّthatلَهُمْfor themأَجْرًا(is) a rewardكَبِيرًاgreat9
وَأَنَّAnd thatٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِٱلْءَاخِرَةِin the HereafterأَعْتَدْنَاWe have preparedلَهُمْfor themعَذَابًاa punishmentأَلِيمًاpainful10
وَيَدْعُAnd praysٱلْإِنسَٰنُthe manبِٱلشَّرِّfor evilدُعَآءَهُۥ(as) he praysبِٱلْخَيْرِfor the goodوَكَانَAnd isٱلْإِنسَٰنُthe manعَجُولًاever hasty11
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have madeٱلَّيْلَthe nightوَٱلنَّهَارَand the dayءَايَتَيْنِ(as) two signsفَمَحَوْنَآThen We erasedءَايَةَ(the) signٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَجَعَلْنَآand We madeءَايَةَ(the) signٱلنَّهَارِ(of) the dayمُبْصِرَةًvisibleلِّتَبْتَغُوا۟that you may seekفَضْلًاbountyمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟and that you may knowعَدَدَ(the) numberٱلسِّنِينَ(of) the yearsوَٱلْحِسَابَand the accountوَكُلَّAnd everyشَىْءٍthing فَصَّلْنَٰهُWe have explained itتَفْصِيلًا(in) detail12
وَكُلَّAnd (for) everyإِنسَٰنٍmanأَلْزَمْنَٰهُWe have fastened to himطَٰٓئِرَهُۥhis fateفِىinعُنُقِهِۦhis neckوَنُخْرِجُand We will bring forthلَهُۥfor himيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionكِتَٰبًاa recordيَلْقَىٰهُwhich he will findمَنشُورًاwide open13
ٱقْرَأْReadكِتَٰبَكَyour recordكَفَىٰSufficientبِنَفْسِكَ(is) yourselfٱلْيَوْمَtodayعَلَيْكَagainst youحَسِيبًا(as) accountant14
مَّنِWhoeverٱهْتَدَىٰ(is) guidedفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyيَهْتَدِىhe is guidedلِنَفْسِهِۦfor his soulوَمَنAnd whoeverضَلَّgoes astrayفَإِنَّمَاthen onlyيَضِلُّhe goes astrayعَلَيْهَاagainst itوَلَاAnd notتَزِرُwill bearوَازِرَةٌa bearer of burdenوِزْرَburdenأُخْرَىٰ(of) anotherوَمَاAnd notكُنَّاWeمُعَذِّبِينَare to punishحَتَّىٰuntilنَبْعَثَWe have sentرَسُولًاa Messenger15
وَإِذَآAnd whenأَرَدْنَآWe intendأَنthatنُّهْلِكَWe destroyقَرْيَةًa townأَمَرْنَاWe orderمُتْرَفِيهَاits wealthy peopleفَفَسَقُوا۟but they defiantly disobeyفِيهَاthereinفَحَقَّso (is) proved trueعَلَيْهَاagainst itٱلْقَوْلُthe wordفَدَمَّرْنَٰهَاand We destroy itتَدْمِيرًا(with) destruction16
وَكَمْAnd how manyأَهْلَكْنَاWe destroyedمِنَfromٱلْقُرُونِthe generationsمِنۢafterبَعْدِafterنُوحٍNuhوَكَفَىٰAnd sufficientبِرَبِّكَ(is) your Lordبِذُنُوبِconcerning the sinsعِبَادِهِۦ(of) His servantsخَبِيرًۢاAll-AwareبَصِيرًاAll-Seer17
مَّنWhoeverكَانَshouldيُرِيدُdesireٱلْعَاجِلَةَthe immediateعَجَّلْنَاWe hastenلَهُۥfor himفِيهَاin itمَاwhatنَشَآءُWe willلِمَنto whomنُّرِيدُWe intendثُمَّThenجَعَلْنَاWe have madeلَهُۥfor himجَهَنَّمَHellيَصْلَىٰهَاhe will burnمَذْمُومًاdisgracedمَّدْحُورًاrejected18
وَمَنْAnd whoeverأَرَادَdesiresٱلْءَاخِرَةَthe Hereafterوَسَعَىٰand exertsلَهَاfor itسَعْيَهَاthe effortوَهُوَwhile heمُؤْمِنٌ(is) a believerفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthen thoseكَانَ[are]سَعْيُهُمtheir effortمَّشْكُورًا(is) appreciated19
كُلًّا(To) eachنُّمِدُّWe extendهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ(to) theseوَهَٰٓؤُلَآءِand (to) theseمِنْfromعَطَآءِ(the) giftرَبِّكَ(of) your LordوَمَاAnd notكَانَisعَطَآءُ(the) giftرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordمَحْظُورًاrestricted20
ٱنظُرْSeeكَيْفَhowفَضَّلْنَاWe preferredبَعْضَهُمْsome of themعَلَىٰoverبَعْضٍothersوَلَلْءَاخِرَةُAnd surely the Hereafterأَكْبَرُ(is) greaterدَرَجَٰتٍ(in) degreesوَأَكْبَرُand greaterتَفْضِيلًا(in) excellence21
لَّا(Do) notتَجْعَلْmakeمَعَwithٱللَّهِAllahإِلَٰهًاgodءَاخَرَanotherفَتَقْعُدَlest you will sitمَذْمُومًاdisgracedمَّخْذُولًاforsaken22
وَقَضَىٰAnd has decreedرَبُّكَyour Lordأَلَّاthat (do) notتَعْبُدُوٓا۟worshipإِلَّآexceptإِيَّاهُHim Aloneوَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِand to the parentsإِحْسَٰنًا(be) goodإِمَّاWhetherيَبْلُغَنَّreachعِندَكَwith youٱلْكِبَرَthe old ageأَحَدُهُمَآone of themأَوْorكِلَاهُمَاboth of themفَلَاthen (do) notتَقُلsayلَّهُمَآto both of themأُفٍّa word of disrespectوَلَاand (do) notتَنْهَرْهُمَاrepel themوَقُلbut speakلَّهُمَاto themقَوْلًاa wordكَرِيمًاnoble23
وَٱخْفِضْAnd lowerلَهُمَاto themجَنَاحَ(the) wingٱلذُّلِّ(of) humilityمِنَ(out) ofٱلرَّحْمَةِ[the] mercyوَقُلand sayرَّبِّMy LordٱرْحَمْهُمَاHave mercy on both of themكَمَاasرَبَّيَانِىthey brought me upصَغِيرًا(when I was) small24
رَّبُّكُمْYour Lordأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingبِمَاof whatفِى(is) inنُفُوسِكُمْyourselvesإِنIfتَكُونُوا۟you areصَٰلِحِينَrighteousفَإِنَّهُۥthen indeed, Heكَانَisلِلْأَوَّٰبِينَto those who often turn (to Him)غَفُورًاMost Forgiving25
وَءَاتِAnd giveذَاthe relativesٱلْقُرْبَىٰthe relativesحَقَّهُۥhis rightوَٱلْمِسْكِينَand the needyوَٱبْنَand the wayfarerٱلسَّبِيلِand the wayfarerوَلَاand (do) notتُبَذِّرْspendتَبْذِيرًاwastefully26
إِنَّIndeedٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَthe spendthriftsكَانُوٓا۟areإِخْوَٰنَbrothersٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ(of) the devilsوَكَانَAnd isٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe Shaitaanلِرَبِّهِۦto his Lordكَفُورًاungrateful27
وَإِمَّاAnd ifتُعْرِضَنَّyou turn awayعَنْهُمُfrom themٱبْتِغَآءَseekingرَحْمَةٍmercyمِّنfromرَّبِّكَyour Lordتَرْجُوهَاwhich you expectفَقُلthen sayلَّهُمْto themقَوْلًاa wordمَّيْسُورًاgentle28
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَجْعَلْmakeيَدَكَyour handمَغْلُولَةًchainedإِلَىٰtoعُنُقِكَyour neckوَلَاand notتَبْسُطْهَاextend itكُلَّ(to its) utmostٱلْبَسْطِreachفَتَقْعُدَso that you sitمَلُومًاblameworthyمَّحْسُورًاinsolvent29
إِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordيَبْسُطُextendsٱلرِّزْقَthe provisionلِمَنfor whomيَشَآءُHe willsوَيَقْدِرُand straitensإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heكَانَisبِعِبَادِهِۦof His slavesخَبِيرًۢاAll-AwareبَصِيرًاAll-Seer30
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقْتُلُوٓا۟killأَوْلَٰدَكُمْyour childrenخَشْيَةَ(for) fearإِمْلَٰقٍ(of) povertyنَّحْنُWeنَرْزُقُهُمْ(We) provide for themوَإِيَّاكُمْand for youإِنَّIndeedقَتْلَهُمْtheir killingكَانَisخِطْـًٔاa sinكَبِيرًاgreat31
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقْرَبُوا۟go nearٱلزِّنَىٰٓadulteryإِنَّهُۥIndeed, itكَانَisفَٰحِشَةًan immoralityوَسَآءَand (an) evilسَبِيلًاway32
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقْتُلُوا۟killٱلنَّفْسَthe soulٱلَّتِىwhichحَرَّمَAllah has forbiddenٱللَّهُAllah has forbiddenإِلَّاexceptبِٱلْحَقِّby rightوَمَنAnd whoeverقُتِلَ(is) killedمَظْلُومًاwrongfullyفَقَدْverilyجَعَلْنَاWe have madeلِوَلِيِّهِۦfor his heirسُلْطَٰنًاan authorityفَلَاbut notيُسْرِفhe should exceedفِّىinٱلْقَتْلِthe killingإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heكَانَisمَنصُورًاhelped33
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقْرَبُوا۟come nearمَالَ(the) wealthٱلْيَتِيمِ(of) the orphanإِلَّاexceptبِٱلَّتِىwith whatهِىَ[it] isأَحْسَنُbestحَتَّىٰuntilيَبْلُغَhe reachesأَشُدَّهُۥhis maturityوَأَوْفُوا۟And fulfilبِٱلْعَهْدِthe covenantإِنَّIndeedٱلْعَهْدَthe covenantكَانَwill beمَسْـُٔولًاquestioned34
وَأَوْفُوا۟And give fullٱلْكَيْلَ[the] measureإِذَاwhenكِلْتُمْyou measureوَزِنُوا۟and weighبِٱلْقِسْطَاسِwith the balanceٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِthe straightذَٰلِكَThatخَيْرٌ(is) goodوَأَحْسَنُand bestتَأْوِيلًا(in) result35
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقْفُpursueمَاwhatلَيْسَnotلَكَyou haveبِهِۦof itعِلْمٌany knowledgeإِنَّIndeedٱلسَّمْعَthe hearingوَٱلْبَصَرَand the sightوَٱلْفُؤَادَand the heartكُلُّallأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthoseكَانَwill beعَنْهُ[about it]مَسْـُٔولًاquestioned36
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَمْشِwalkفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمَرَحًا(with) insolenceإِنَّكَIndeed, youلَنwill neverتَخْرِقَtearٱلْأَرْضَthe earthوَلَنand will neverتَبْلُغَreachٱلْجِبَالَthe mountainsطُولًا(in) height37
ذَٰلِكَThatمِمَّآ(is) from whatأَوْحَىٰٓ(was) revealedإِلَيْكَto youرَبُّكَ(from) your Lordمِنَofٱلْحِكْمَةِthe wisdomوَلَاAnd (do) notتَجْعَلْmakeمَعَwithٱللَّهِAllahإِلَٰهًاgodءَاخَرَotherفَتُلْقَىٰlest you should be thrownفِىinجَهَنَّمَHellمَلُومًاblameworthyمَّدْحُورًاabandoned39
أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْThen has your Lord chosen (for) youرَبُّكُمThen has your Lord chosen (for) youبِٱلْبَنِينَsonsوَٱتَّخَذَand He has takenمِنَfromٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِthe AngelsإِنَٰثًاdaughtersإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youلَتَقُولُونَsurely sayقَوْلًاa wordعَظِيمًاgrave40
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyصَرَّفْنَاWe have explainedفِىinهَٰذَاthisٱلْقُرْءَانِthe Quranلِيَذَّكَّرُوا۟that they may take heedوَمَاbut notيَزِيدُهُمْit increases themإِلَّاexceptنُفُورًا(in) aversion41
قُلSayلَّوْIfكَانَ(there) wereمَعَهُۥٓwith Himءَالِهَةٌgodsكَمَاasيَقُولُونَthey sayإِذًاthenلَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟surely they (would) have soughtإِلَىٰtoذِى(the) Ownerٱلْعَرْشِ(of) the Throneسَبِيلًاa way42
سُبْحَٰنَهُۥGlorified is Heوَتَعَٰلَىٰand Exalted is Heعَمَّاabove whatيَقُولُونَthey sayعُلُوًّا(by) heightكَبِيرًاgreat43
تُسَبِّحُGlorifyلَهُ[to] Himٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُthe seven heavensٱلسَّبْعُthe seven heavensوَٱلْأَرْضُand the earthوَمَنand whateverفِيهِنَّ(is) in themوَإِنAnd (there is) notمِّنanyشَىْءٍthingإِلَّاexceptيُسَبِّحُglorifiesبِحَمْدِهِۦHis Praiseوَلَٰكِنbutلَّاnotتَفْقَهُونَyou understandتَسْبِيحَهُمْtheir glorificationإِنَّهُۥIndeed, HeكَانَisحَلِيمًاEver-ForbearingغَفُورًاOft-Forgiving44
وَإِذَاAnd whenقَرَأْتَyou reciteٱلْقُرْءَانَthe QuranجَعَلْنَاWe placeبَيْنَكَbetween youوَبَيْنَand betweenٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِٱلْءَاخِرَةِin the Hereafterحِجَابًاa barrierمَّسْتُورًاhidden45
وَجَعَلْنَاAnd We have placedعَلَىٰoverقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsأَكِنَّةًcoveringsأَنlestيَفْقَهُوهُthey understand itوَفِىٓand inءَاذَانِهِمْtheir earsوَقْرًاdeafnessوَإِذَاAnd whenذَكَرْتَyou mentionرَبَّكَyour Lordفِىinٱلْقُرْءَانِthe QuranوَحْدَهُۥAloneوَلَّوْا۟they turnعَلَىٰٓonأَدْبَٰرِهِمْtheir backsنُفُورًا(in) aversion46
نَّحْنُWeأَعْلَمُknow bestبِمَا[of] whatيَسْتَمِعُونَthey listenبِهِۦٓto [it]إِذْwhenيَسْتَمِعُونَthey listenإِلَيْكَto youوَإِذْand whenهُمْtheyنَجْوَىٰٓ(are) in private conversationإِذْwhenيَقُولُsayٱلظَّٰلِمُونَthe wrongdoersإِنNotتَتَّبِعُونَyou followإِلَّاbutرَجُلًاa manمَّسْحُورًاbewitched47
ٱنظُرْSeeكَيْفَhowضَرَبُوا۟they put forthلَكَfor youٱلْأَمْثَالَthe examplesفَضَلُّوا۟but they have gone astrayفَلَاso notيَسْتَطِيعُونَthey canسَبِيلًا(find) a way48
وَقَالُوٓا۟And they sayأَءِذَاIs it whenكُنَّاwe areعِظَٰمًاbonesوَرُفَٰتًاand crumbled particlesأَءِنَّاwill weلَمَبْعُوثُونَsurely (be) resurrectedخَلْقًا(as) a creationجَدِيدًاnew49
أَوْOrخَلْقًاa creationمِّمَّاof whatيَكْبُرُ(is) greatفِىinصُدُورِكُمْyour breastsفَسَيَقُولُونَThen they will sayمَنWhoيُعِيدُنَاwill restore usقُلِSayٱلَّذِىHe Whoفَطَرَكُمْcreated youأَوَّلَ(the) firstمَرَّةٍtimeفَسَيُنْغِضُونَThen they will shakeإِلَيْكَat youرُءُوسَهُمْtheir headsوَيَقُولُونَand they sayمَتَىٰWhen (will)هُوَit (be)قُلْSayعَسَىٰٓPerhapsأَنthatيَكُونَ(it) will beقَرِيبًاsoon51
يَوْمَ(On) the DayيَدْعُوكُمْHe will call youفَتَسْتَجِيبُونَand you will respondبِحَمْدِهِۦwith His Praiseوَتَظُنُّونَand you will thinkإِنnotلَّبِثْتُمْyou had remainedإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa little (while)52
وَقُلAnd sayلِّعِبَادِىto My slavesيَقُولُوا۟(to) sayٱلَّتِىthatهِىَwhichأَحْسَنُ(is) bestإِنَّIndeedٱلشَّيْطَٰنَthe Shaitaanيَنزَغُsows discordبَيْنَهُمْbetween themإِنَّIndeedٱلشَّيْطَٰنَthe Shaitaanكَانَisلِلْإِنسَٰنِto the manعَدُوًّاan enemyمُّبِينًاclear53
رَّبُّكُمْYour Lordأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingبِكُمْof youإِنIfيَشَأْHe willsيَرْحَمْكُمْHe will have mercy on youأَوْorإِنifيَشَأْHe willsيُعَذِّبْكُمْHe will punish youوَمَآAnd notأَرْسَلْنَٰكَWe have sent youعَلَيْهِمْover themوَكِيلًا(as) a guardian54
وَرَبُّكَAnd your Lordأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingبِمَنof whoeverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَلَقَدْAnd verilyفَضَّلْنَاWe have preferredبَعْضَsomeٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ(of) the ProphetsعَلَىٰtoبَعْضٍothersوَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gaveدَاوُۥدَDawoodزَبُورًاZaboor55
قُلِSayٱدْعُوا۟Callٱلَّذِينَthose whomزَعَمْتُمyou claimedمِّنbesides Himدُونِهِۦbesides Himفَلَا[then] notيَمْلِكُونَthey have powerكَشْفَ(to) removeٱلضُّرِّthe misfortunesعَنكُمْfrom youوَلَاand notتَحْوِيلًا(to) transfer (it)56
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseٱلَّذِينَwhomيَدْعُونَthey callيَبْتَغُونَseekإِلَىٰtoرَبِّهِمُtheir Lordٱلْوَسِيلَةَthe means of accessأَيُّهُمْwhich of themأَقْرَبُ(is) nearestوَيَرْجُونَand they hopeرَحْمَتَهُۥ(for) His mercyوَيَخَافُونَand fearعَذَابَهُۥٓHis punishmentإِنَّIndeedعَذَابَ(the) punishmentرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordكَانَisمَحْذُورًا(ever) feared57
وَإِنAnd notمِّن(is) anyقَرْيَةٍtownإِلَّاbutنَحْنُWeمُهْلِكُوهَا(will) destroy itقَبْلَbeforeيَوْمِ(the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionأَوْorمُعَذِّبُوهَاpunish itعَذَابًاwith a punishmentشَدِيدًاsevereكَانَThat isذَٰلِكَThat isفِىinٱلْكِتَٰبِthe Bookمَسْطُورًاwritten58
وَمَاAnd notمَنَعَنَآstopped UsأَنthatنُّرْسِلَWe sendبِٱلْءَايَٰتِthe Signsإِلَّآexceptأَنthatكَذَّبَdeniedبِهَاthemٱلْأَوَّلُونَthe former (people)وَءَاتَيْنَاAnd We gaveثَمُودَThamudٱلنَّاقَةَthe she-camelمُبْصِرَةً(as) a visible signفَظَلَمُوا۟but they wrongedبِهَاherوَمَاAnd notنُرْسِلُWe sendبِٱلْءَايَٰتِthe Signsإِلَّاexceptتَخْوِيفًا(as) a warning59
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْنَاWe saidلَكَto youإِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordأَحَاطَhas encompassedبِٱلنَّاسِthe mankindوَمَاAnd notجَعَلْنَاWe madeٱلرُّءْيَاthe visionٱلَّتِىٓwhichأَرَيْنَٰكَWe showed youإِلَّاexceptفِتْنَةً(as) a trialلِّلنَّاسِfor mankindوَٱلشَّجَرَةَand the treeٱلْمَلْعُونَةَthe accursedفِىinٱلْقُرْءَانِthe QuranوَنُخَوِّفُهُمْAnd We threaten themفَمَاbut notيَزِيدُهُمْit increases themإِلَّاexceptطُغْيَٰنًا(in) transgressionكَبِيرًاgreat60
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْنَاWe saidلِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِto the Angelsٱسْجُدُوا۟Prostrateلِءَادَمَto Adamفَسَجَدُوٓا۟So they prostratedإِلَّآexceptإِبْلِيسَIblisقَالَHe saidءَأَسْجُدُShall I prostrateلِمَنْto (one) whomخَلَقْتَYou createdطِينًا(from) clay61
قَالَHe saidأَرَءَيْتَكَDo You seeهَٰذَاthisٱلَّذِىwhomكَرَّمْتَYou have honoredعَلَىَّabove meلَئِنْIfأَخَّرْتَنِYou give me respiteإِلَىٰtillيَوْمِ(the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) the ResurrectionلَأَحْتَنِكَنَّI will surely destroyذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓhis offspringإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa few62
قَالَHe saidٱذْهَبْGoفَمَنand whoeverتَبِعَكَfollows youمِنْهُمْamong themفَإِنَّthen indeedجَهَنَّمَHellجَزَآؤُكُمْ(is) your recompense جَزَآءًa recompenseمَّوْفُورًاample63
وَٱسْتَفْزِزْAnd inciteمَنِwhoeverٱسْتَطَعْتَyou canمِنْهُمamong themبِصَوْتِكَwith your voiceوَأَجْلِبْand assaultعَلَيْهِم[on] themبِخَيْلِكَwith your cavalryوَرَجِلِكَand infantryوَشَارِكْهُمْand be a partnerفِىinٱلْأَمْوَٰلِthe wealthوَٱلْأَوْلَٰدِand the childrenوَعِدْهُمْand promise themوَمَاAnd notيَعِدُهُمُpromises themٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe Shaitaanإِلَّاexceptغُرُورًاdelusion64
إِنَّIndeedعِبَادِىMy slavesلَيْسَnotلَكَfor youعَلَيْهِمْover themسُلْطَٰنٌany authorityوَكَفَىٰAnd sufficientبِرَبِّكَ(is) your Lordوَكِيلًا(as) a Guardian65
رَّبُّكُمُYour Lordٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoيُزْجِىdrivesلَكُمُfor youٱلْفُلْكَthe shipفِىinٱلْبَحْرِthe seaلِتَبْتَغُوا۟that you may seekمِنofفَضْلِهِۦٓHis BountyإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heكَانَisبِكُمْto youرَحِيمًاEver Merciful66
وَإِذَاAnd whenمَسَّكُمُtouches youٱلضُّرُّthe hardshipفِىinٱلْبَحْرِthe seaضَلَّlostمَن(are) whoتَدْعُونَyou callإِلَّآexceptإِيَّاهُHim AloneفَلَمَّاBut whenنَجَّىٰكُمْHe delivers youإِلَىtoٱلْبَرِّthe landأَعْرَضْتُمْyou turn awayوَكَانَAnd isٱلْإِنسَٰنُmanكَفُورًاungrateful67
أَفَأَمِنتُمْDo you then feel secureأَنthat (not)يَخْسِفَHe will cause to swallowبِكُمْyouجَانِبَsideٱلْبَرِّ(of) the landأَوْorيُرْسِلَsendعَلَيْكُمْagainst youحَاصِبًاa storm of stonesثُمَّThenلَاnotتَجِدُوا۟you will findلَكُمْfor youوَكِيلًاa guardian68
أَمْOrأَمِنتُمْdo you feel secureأَنthat (not)يُعِيدَكُمْHe will send you backفِيهِinto itتَارَةًanother timeأُخْرَىٰanother timeفَيُرْسِلَand sendعَلَيْكُمْupon youقَاصِفًاa hurricaneمِّنَofٱلرِّيحِthe windفَيُغْرِقَكُمand drown youبِمَاbecauseكَفَرْتُمْyou disbelievedثُمَّThenلَاnotتَجِدُوا۟you will findلَكُمْfor youعَلَيْنَاagainst Usبِهِۦthereinتَبِيعًاan avenger69
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyكَرَّمْنَاWe have honoredبَنِىٓ(the) children of Adamءَادَمَ(the) children of Adamوَحَمَلْنَٰهُمْand We carried themفِىonٱلْبَرِّthe landوَٱلْبَحْرِand the seaوَرَزَقْنَٰهُمand We have provided themمِّنَofٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِthe good thingsوَفَضَّلْنَٰهُمْand We preferred themعَلَىٰoverكَثِيرٍmanyمِّمَّنْof those whomخَلَقْنَاWe have createdتَفْضِيلًا(with) preference70
يَوْمَ(The) Dayنَدْعُوا۟We will callكُلَّallأُنَاسٍۢhuman beingsبِإِمَٰمِهِمْwith their recordفَمَنْthen whoeverأُوتِىَis givenكِتَٰبَهُۥhis recordبِيَمِينِهِۦin his right handفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthen thoseيَقْرَءُونَwill readكِتَٰبَهُمْtheir recordsوَلَاand notيُظْلَمُونَthey will be wrongedفَتِيلًا(even as much as) a hair on a date seed71
وَمَنAnd whoeverكَانَisفِىinهَٰذِهِۦٓthis (world)أَعْمَىٰblindفَهُوَthen heفِىinٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe Hereafterأَعْمَىٰ(will be) blindوَأَضَلُّand more astrayسَبِيلًا(from the) path72
وَإِنAnd indeedكَادُوا۟they were about (to)لَيَفْتِنُونَكَtempt you awayعَنِfromٱلَّذِىٓthat whichأَوْحَيْنَآWe revealedإِلَيْكَto youلِتَفْتَرِىَthat you inventعَلَيْنَاabout Usغَيْرَهُۥother (than) itوَإِذًاAnd thenلَّٱتَّخَذُوكَsurely they would take youخَلِيلًا(as) a friend73
وَلَوْلَآAnd if notأَن[that]ثَبَّتْنَٰكَWe (had) strengthened youلَقَدْcertainlyكِدتَّyou almostتَرْكَنُ(would) have inclinedإِلَيْهِمْto themشَيْـًٔا(in) somethingقَلِيلًاa little74
إِذًاThenلَّأَذَقْنَٰكَWe (would) have made you tasteضِعْفَdoubleٱلْحَيَوٰةِ(in) the lifeوَضِعْفَand doubleٱلْمَمَاتِ(after) the deathثُمَّThenلَاnotتَجِدُyou (would) have foundلَكَfor youعَلَيْنَاagainst Usنَصِيرًاany helper75
وَإِنAnd indeedكَادُوا۟they were aboutلَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ(to) scare youمِنَfromٱلْأَرْضِthe landلِيُخْرِجُوكَthat they evict youمِنْهَاfrom itوَإِذًاBut thenلَّاnotيَلْبَثُونَthey (would) have stayedخِلَٰفَكَafter youإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa little76
سُنَّةَ(Such is Our) Wayمَن(for) whomقَدْ[verily]أَرْسَلْنَاWe sentقَبْلَكَbefore youمِنofرُّسُلِنَاOur MessengersوَلَاAnd notتَجِدُyou will findلِسُنَّتِنَا(in) Our wayتَحْوِيلًاany alteration77
أَقِمِEstablishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerلِدُلُوكِat the declineٱلشَّمْسِ(of) the sunإِلَىٰtillغَسَقِ(the) darknessٱلَّيْلِ(of) the nightوَقُرْءَانَand Quranٱلْفَجْرِat dawnإِنَّindeedقُرْءَانَthe Quranٱلْفَجْرِ(at) the dawnكَانَisمَشْهُودًاever witnessed78
وَمِنَAnd fromٱلَّيْلِthe nightفَتَهَجَّدْarise from sleep for prayerبِهِۦwith itنَافِلَةً(as) additionalلَّكَfor youعَسَىٰٓit may beأَنthatيَبْعَثَكَwill raise youرَبُّكَyour Lordمَقَامًا(to) a stationمَّحْمُودًاpraiseworthy79
وَقُلAnd sayرَّبِّMy LordأَدْخِلْنِىCause me to enterمُدْخَلَan entranceصِدْقٍsoundوَأَخْرِجْنِىand cause me to exitمُخْرَجَan exitصِدْقٍsoundوَٱجْعَلand makeلِّىfor meمِنfromلَّدُنكَnear Youسُلْطَٰنًاan authorityنَّصِيرًاhelping80
وَقُلْAnd sayجَآءَHas comeٱلْحَقُّthe truthوَزَهَقَand perishedٱلْبَٰطِلُthe falsehoodإِنَّIndeedٱلْبَٰطِلَthe falsehoodكَانَisزَهُوقًا(bound) to perish81
وَنُنَزِّلُAnd We revealمِنَfromٱلْقُرْءَانِthe Quranمَاthatهُوَitشِفَآءٌ(is) a healingوَرَحْمَةٌand a mercyلِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believersوَلَاbut notيَزِيدُit increasesٱلظَّٰلِمِينَthe wrongdoersإِلَّاexceptخَسَارًا(in) loss82
وَإِذَآAnd whenأَنْعَمْنَاWe bestow favorعَلَىonٱلْإِنسَٰنِmanأَعْرَضَhe turns awayوَنَـَٔاand becomes remoteبِجَانِبِهِۦon his sideوَإِذَاAnd whenمَسَّهُtouches himٱلشَّرُّthe evilكَانَhe isيَـُٔوسًا(in) despair83
قُلْSayكُلٌّEachيَعْمَلُworksعَلَىٰonشَاكِلَتِهِۦhis mannerفَرَبُّكُمْbut your Lordأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingبِمَنْof whoهُوَ[he]أَهْدَىٰ(is) best guidedسَبِيلًا(in) way84
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَAnd they ask youعَنِconcerningٱلرُّوحِthe soulقُلِSayٱلرُّوحُThe soulمِنْ(is) ofأَمْرِ(the) affairرَبِّى(of) my LordوَمَآAnd notأُوتِيتُمyou have been givenمِّنَofٱلْعِلْمِthe knowledgeإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa little85
وَلَئِنAnd ifشِئْنَاWe willedلَنَذْهَبَنَّWe (would) have surely taken awayبِٱلَّذِىٓthat whichأَوْحَيْنَآWe have revealedإِلَيْكَto youثُمَّThenلَاnotتَجِدُyou would findلَكَfor youبِهِۦconcerning itعَلَيْنَاagainst Usوَكِيلًاany advocate86
إِلَّاExceptرَحْمَةًa mercyمِّنfromرَّبِّكَyour LordإِنَّIndeedفَضْلَهُۥHis Bountyكَانَisعَلَيْكَupon youكَبِيرًاgreat87
قُلSayلَّئِنِIfٱجْتَمَعَتِgatheredٱلْإِنسُthe mankindوَٱلْجِنُّand the jinnعَلَىٰٓtoأَن[that]يَأْتُوا۟bringبِمِثْلِthe likeهَٰذَا(of) thisٱلْقُرْءَانِQuranلَاnotيَأْتُونَthey (could) bringبِمِثْلِهِۦthe like of itوَلَوْeven ifكَانَwereبَعْضُهُمْsome of themلِبَعْضٍto some othersظَهِيرًاassistants88
وَلَقَدْAnd verilyصَرَّفْنَاWe have explainedلِلنَّاسِto mankindفِىinهَٰذَاthisٱلْقُرْءَانِQuranمِنfromكُلِّeveryمَثَلٍexampleفَأَبَىٰٓbut refusedأَكْثَرُmostٱلنَّاسِ(of) the mankindإِلَّاexceptكُفُورًاdisbelief89
وَقَالُوا۟And they sayلَنNeverنُّؤْمِنَwe will believeلَكَin youحَتَّىٰuntilتَفْجُرَyou cause to gush forthلَنَاfor usمِنَfromٱلْأَرْضِthe earthيَنۢبُوعًاa spring90
أَوْOrتَكُونَyou haveلَكَfor youجَنَّةٌa gardenمِّنofنَّخِيلٍdate-palmsوَعِنَبٍand grapesفَتُفَجِّرَand cause to gush forthٱلْأَنْهَٰرَthe riversخِلَٰلَهَاwithin themتَفْجِيرًاabundantly91
أَوْOrتُسْقِطَyou cause to fallٱلسَّمَآءَthe skyكَمَاasزَعَمْتَyou have claimedعَلَيْنَاupon usكِسَفًا(in) piecesأَوْorتَأْتِىَyou bringبِٱللَّهِAllahوَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِand the Angelsقَبِيلًاbefore (us)92
أَوْOrيَكُونَisلَكَfor youبَيْتٌa houseمِّنofزُخْرُفٍornamentأَوْorتَرْقَىٰyou ascendفِىintoٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyوَلَنAnd neverنُّؤْمِنَwe will believeلِرُقِيِّكَin your ascensionحَتَّىٰuntilتُنَزِّلَyou bring downعَلَيْنَاto usكِتَٰبًاa bookنَّقْرَؤُهُۥwe could read itقُلْSayسُبْحَانَGlorified (is)رَبِّىmy LordهَلْWhatكُنتُam Iإِلَّاbutبَشَرًاa humanرَّسُولًاa Messenger93
وَمَاAnd whatمَنَعَpreventedٱلنَّاسَthe peopleأَنthatيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟they believeإِذْwhenجَآءَهُمُcame to themٱلْهُدَىٰٓthe guidanceإِلَّآexceptأَنthatقَالُوٓا۟they saidأَبَعَثَHas Allah sentٱللَّهُHas Allah sentبَشَرًاa humanرَّسُولًاMessenger94
قُلSayلَّوْIfكَانَ(there) wereفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthمَلَٰٓئِكَةٌAngelsيَمْشُونَwalkingمُطْمَئِنِّينَsecurelyلَنَزَّلْنَاsurely We (would) have sent downعَلَيْهِمto themمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavenمَلَكًاan Angelرَّسُولًا(as) a Messenger95
قُلْSayكَفَىٰSufficient isبِٱللَّهِAllahشَهِيدًۢا(as) a witnessبَيْنِىbetween meوَبَيْنَكُمْand between youإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heكَانَisبِعِبَادِهِۦof His slavesخَبِيرًۢاAll-AwareبَصِيرًاAll-Seer96
وَمَنAnd whoeverيَهْدِAllah guidesٱللَّهُAllah guidesفَهُوَthen he (is)ٱلْمُهْتَدِthe guided oneوَمَنand whoeverيُضْلِلْHe lets go astray فَلَنthen neverتَجِدَyou will findلَهُمْfor themأَوْلِيَآءَprotectorsمِنbesides Himدُونِهِۦbesides HimوَنَحْشُرُهُمْAnd We will gather themيَوْمَ(on) the Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionعَلَىٰonوُجُوهِهِمْtheir faces عُمْيًاblindوَبُكْمًاand dumbوَصُمًّاand deafمَّأْوَىٰهُمْTheir abodeجَهَنَّمُ(is) Hellكُلَّمَاevery timeخَبَتْit subsidesزِدْنَٰهُمْWe (will) increase (for) themسَعِيرًاthe blazing fire97
ذَٰلِكَThatجَزَآؤُهُم(is) their recompenseبِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاin Our Versesوَقَالُوٓا۟and saidأَءِذَاWhenكُنَّاwe areعِظَٰمًاbonesوَرُفَٰتًاand crumbled particlesأَءِنَّاwill weلَمَبْعُوثُونَsurely (be) resurrectedخَلْقًا(as) a creationجَدِيدًاnew98
أَوَلَمْDo notيَرَوْا۟they seeأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahٱلَّذِىthe One Whoخَلَقَcreatedٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَand the earthقَادِرٌ(is) Ableعَلَىٰٓ[on]أَنtoيَخْلُقَcreateمِثْلَهُمْthe like of themوَجَعَلَAnd He has madeلَهُمْfor themأَجَلًاa termلَّاnoرَيْبَdoubtفِيهِin itفَأَبَىBut refusedٱلظَّٰلِمُونَthe wrongdoersإِلَّاexceptكُفُورًاdisbelief99
قُلSayلَّوْIfأَنتُمْyouتَمْلِكُونَpossessخَزَآئِنَthe treasuresرَحْمَةِ(of) the Mercyرَبِّىٓ(of) my Lordإِذًاthenلَّأَمْسَكْتُمْsurely you would withholdخَشْيَةَ(out of) fearٱلْإِنفَاقِ(of) spendingوَكَانَAnd isٱلْإِنسَٰنُmanقَتُورًاstingy100
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyءَاتَيْنَاWe had givenمُوسَىٰMusaتِسْعَnineءَايَٰتٍۢSignsبَيِّنَٰتٍclearفَسْـَٔلْso askبَنِىٓ(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(the) Children of Israelإِذْwhenجَآءَهُمْhe came to themفَقَالَthen saidلَهُۥto himفِرْعَوْنُFiraunإِنِّىIndeed, Iلَأَظُنُّكَ[I] think you يَٰمُوسَىٰO Musaمَسْحُورًا(you are) bewitched101
قَالَHe saidلَقَدْVerilyعَلِمْتَyou have knownمَآnoneأَنزَلَhas sent downهَٰٓؤُلَآءِtheseإِلَّاexceptرَبُّ(the) Lordٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthبَصَآئِرَ(as) evidenceوَإِنِّىand indeed, Iلَأَظُنُّكَ[I] surely think youيَٰفِرْعَوْنُO Firaunمَثْبُورًا(you are) destroyed102
فَأَرَادَSo he intendedأَنtoيَسْتَفِزَّهُمdrive them outمِّنَfromٱلْأَرْضِthe landفَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُbut We drowned himوَمَنand whoمَّعَهُۥ(were) with himجَمِيعًاall103
وَقُلْنَاAnd We saidمِنۢafter himبَعْدِهِۦafter himلِبَنِىٓto the Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَto the Children of Israelٱسْكُنُوا۟Dwellٱلْأَرْضَ(in) the landفَإِذَاthen whenجَآءَcomesوَعْدُ(the) promiseٱلْءَاخِرَةِ(of) the HereafterجِئْنَاWe will bringبِكُمْyouلَفِيفًا(as) a mixed crowd104
وَبِٱلْحَقِّAnd with the truthأَنزَلْنَٰهُWe sent it downوَبِٱلْحَقِّand with the truthنَزَلَit descendedوَمَآAnd notأَرْسَلْنَٰكَWe sent youإِلَّاexceptمُبَشِّرًا(as) a bearer of glad tidingsوَنَذِيرًاand a warner105
وَقُرْءَانًاAnd the QuranفَرَقْنَٰهُWe have dividedلِتَقْرَأَهُۥthat you might recite itعَلَىtoٱلنَّاسِthe peopleعَلَىٰatمُكْثٍintervalsوَنَزَّلْنَٰهُAnd We have revealed itتَنزِيلًا(in) stages106
قُلْSayءَامِنُوا۟Believeبِهِۦٓin itأَوْorلَا(do) notتُؤْمِنُوٓا۟believeإِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُوا۟were givenٱلْعِلْمَthe knowledgeمِنbefore itقَبْلِهِۦٓbefore itإِذَاwhenيُتْلَىٰit is recitedعَلَيْهِمْto themيَخِرُّونَthey fallلِلْأَذْقَانِon their facesسُجَّدًا(in) prostration107
وَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayسُبْحَٰنَGlory be toرَبِّنَآour LordإِنIndeedكَانَisوَعْدُ(the) promiseرَبِّنَا(of) our Lordلَمَفْعُولًاsurely fulfilled108
وَيَخِرُّونَAnd they fallلِلْأَذْقَانِon their facesيَبْكُونَweepingوَيَزِيدُهُمْand it increases themخُشُوعًا(in) humility109
قُلِSayٱدْعُوا۟InvokeٱللَّهَAllahأَوِorٱدْعُوا۟invokeٱلرَّحْمَٰنَthe Most GraciousأَيًّاBy whatever (name)مَّاBy whatever (name)تَدْعُوا۟you invokeفَلَهُto Him (belongs)ٱلْأَسْمَآءُthe Most Beautiful Namesٱلْحُسْنَىٰthe Most Beautiful NamesوَلَاAnd (do) notتَجْهَرْbe loudبِصَلَاتِكَin your prayersوَلَاand notتُخَافِتْbe silentبِهَاthereinوَٱبْتَغِbut seekبَيْنَbetweenذَٰلِكَthatسَبِيلًاa way110
وَقُلِAnd sayٱلْحَمْدُAll Praiseلِلَّهِ(is) for Allahٱلَّذِىthe One Whoلَمْhas not takenيَتَّخِذْhas not takenوَلَدًاa sonوَلَمْand notيَكُنisلَّهُۥfor Himشَرِيكٌa partnerفِىinٱلْمُلْكِthe dominionوَلَمْand notيَكُنisلَّهُۥfor Himوَلِىٌّany protectorمِّنَout ofٱلذُّلِّweaknessوَكَبِّرْهُAnd magnify Himتَكْبِيرًۢا(with all) magnificence111

قَيِّمًاStraightلِّيُنذِرَto warnبَأْسًا(of) a punishmentشَدِيدًاsevereمِّنfromلَّدُنْهُnear Himوَيُبَشِّرَand give glad tidingsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(to) the believersٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَعْمَلُونَdoٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِrighteous deedsأَنَّthatلَهُمْfor themأَجْرًا(is) a good rewardحَسَنًا(is) a good reward2
وَيُنذِرَAnd to warnٱلَّذِينَthose whoقَالُوا۟sayٱتَّخَذَAllah has takenٱللَّهُAllah has takenوَلَدًاa son4
مَّاNotلَهُمthey haveبِهِۦabout itمِنْanyعِلْمٍknowledgeوَلَاand notلِءَابَآئِهِمْtheir forefathersكَبُرَتْGrave (is)كَلِمَةًthe wordتَخْرُجُ(that) comes outمِنْofأَفْوَٰهِهِمْtheir mouthsإِنNotيَقُولُونَthey sayإِلَّاexceptكَذِبًاa lie5
فَلَعَلَّكَThen perhaps you would (be)بَٰخِعٌthe one who killsنَّفْسَكَyourselfعَلَىٰٓoverءَاثَٰرِهِمْtheir footstepsإِنifلَّمْnotيُؤْمِنُوا۟they believeبِهَٰذَاin thisٱلْحَدِيثِ[the] narrationأَسَفًا(in) grief6
إِنَّاIndeed, WeجَعَلْنَاWe have madeمَاwhatعَلَى(is) onٱلْأَرْضِthe earthزِينَةًadornmentلَّهَاfor itلِنَبْلُوَهُمْthat We may test [them]أَيُّهُمْwhich of themأَحْسَنُ(is) bestعَمَلًا(in) deed7
وَإِنَّاAnd indeed, Weلَجَٰعِلُونَ(will) surely makeمَاwhatعَلَيْهَا(is) on itصَعِيدًاsoilجُرُزًاbarren8
أَمْOrحَسِبْتَhave you thoughtأَنَّthatأَصْحَٰبَ(the) companionsٱلْكَهْفِ(of) the caveوَٱلرَّقِيمِand the inscriptionكَانُوا۟wereمِنْamongءَايَٰتِنَاOur Signsعَجَبًاa wonder9
إِذْWhenأَوَىretreatedٱلْفِتْيَةُthe youthsإِلَىtoٱلْكَهْفِthe caveفَقَالُوا۟and they saidرَبَّنَآOur LordءَاتِنَاGrant usمِنfromلَّدُنكَYourselfرَحْمَةًMercyوَهَيِّئْand facilitateلَنَاfor usمِنْ[from]أَمْرِنَاour affairرَشَدًا(in the) right way10
فَضَرَبْنَاSo We castعَلَىٰٓoverءَاذَانِهِمْtheir earsفِىinٱلْكَهْفِthe caveسِنِينَyears عَدَدًاa number11
ثُمَّThenبَعَثْنَٰهُمْWe raised them upلِنَعْلَمَthat We make evidentأَىُّwhichٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ(of) the two partiesأَحْصَىٰbest calculatedلِمَاfor whatلَبِثُوٓا۟(they had) remainedأَمَدًا(in) time12
نَّحْنُWeنَقُصُّnarrateعَلَيْكَto youنَبَأَهُمtheir storyبِٱلْحَقِّin truthإِنَّهُمْIndeed, they (were)فِتْيَةٌyouthsءَامَنُوا۟who believedبِرَبِّهِمْin their Lordوَزِدْنَٰهُمْand We increased themهُدًى(in) guidance13
وَرَبَطْنَاAnd We made firmعَلَىٰ[on]قُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsإِذْwhenقَامُوا۟they stood upفَقَالُوا۟and saidرَبُّنَاOur Lordرَبُّ(is) the Lordٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthلَنNeverنَّدْعُوَا۟we will invokeمِنbesides Himدُونِهِۦٓbesides Himإِلَٰهًاany godلَّقَدْCertainlyقُلْنَآwe would have saidإِذًاthenشَطَطًاan enormity14
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِTheseقَوْمُنَاour peopleٱتَّخَذُوا۟have takenمِنbesides Himدُونِهِۦٓbesides HimءَالِهَةًgodsلَّوْلَاWhy notيَأْتُونَthey comeعَلَيْهِمto themبِسُلْطَٰنٍۢwith an authorityبَيِّنٍclearفَمَنْAnd whoأَظْلَمُ(is) more wrongمِمَّنِthan (one) whoٱفْتَرَىٰinventsعَلَىagainstٱللَّهِAllahكَذِبًاa lie15
وَإِذِAnd whenٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْyou withdraw from themوَمَاand whatيَعْبُدُونَthey worshipإِلَّاexceptٱللَّهَAllahفَأْوُۥٓا۟then retreatإِلَىtoٱلْكَهْفِthe caveيَنشُرْWill spreadلَكُمْfor youرَبُّكُمyour LordمِّنofرَّحْمَتِهِۦHis Mercyوَيُهَيِّئْand will facilitateلَكُمfor youمِّنْ[from]أَمْرِكُمyour affairمِّرْفَقًا(in) ease16
وَتَرَىAnd you (might) have seenٱلشَّمْسَthe sunإِذَاwhenطَلَعَتit roseتَّزَٰوَرُinclining awayعَنfromكَهْفِهِمْtheir caveذَاتَtoٱلْيَمِينِthe rightوَإِذَاand whenغَرَبَتit setتَّقْرِضُهُمْpassing away from themذَاتَtoٱلشِّمَالِthe leftوَهُمْwhile theyفِى(lay) inفَجْوَةٍthe open spaceمِّنْهُthereofذَٰلِكَThatمِنْ(was) fromءَايَٰتِ(the) Signsٱللَّهِ(of) AllahمَنWhoeverيَهْدِAllah guidesٱللَّهُAllah guidesفَهُوَand heٱلْمُهْتَدِ(is) the guided oneوَمَنand whoeverيُضْلِلْHe lets go astrayفَلَنthen neverتَجِدَyou will findلَهُۥfor himوَلِيًّاa protectorمُّرْشِدًاa guide17
وَتَحْسَبُهُمْAnd you (would) think themأَيْقَاظًاawakeوَهُمْwhile theyرُقُودٌ(were) asleepوَنُقَلِّبُهُمْAnd We turned themذَاتَtoٱلْيَمِينِthe rightوَذَاتَand toٱلشِّمَالِthe leftوَكَلْبُهُمwhile their dogبَٰسِطٌstretchedذِرَاعَيْهِhis two forelegsبِٱلْوَصِيدِat the entranceلَوِIfٱطَّلَعْتَyou had lookedعَلَيْهِمْat themلَوَلَّيْتَyou (would) have surely turned backمِنْهُمْfrom themفِرَارًا(in) flightوَلَمُلِئْتَand surely you would have been filledمِنْهُمْby themرُعْبًا(with) terror18
وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd similarlyبَعَثْنَٰهُمْWe raised themلِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟that they might questionبَيْنَهُمْamong themقَالَSaidقَآئِلٌa speakerمِّنْهُمْamong themكَمْHow longلَبِثْتُمْhave you remainedقَالُوا۟They saidلَبِثْنَاWe have remainedيَوْمًاa dayأَوْorبَعْضَa partيَوْمٍ(of) a dayقَالُوا۟They saidرَبُّكُمْYour Lordأَعْلَمُknows bestبِمَاhow longلَبِثْتُمْyou have remainedفَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟So sendأَحَدَكُمone of youبِوَرِقِكُمْwith this silver coin of yoursهَٰذِهِۦٓwith this silver coin of yoursإِلَىtoٱلْمَدِينَةِthe cityفَلْيَنظُرْand let him seeأَيُّهَآwhich isأَزْكَىٰthe purestطَعَامًاfoodفَلْيَأْتِكُمand let him bring to youبِرِزْقٍprovisionمِّنْهُfrom itوَلْيَتَلَطَّفْand let him be cautiousوَلَاAnd let not be awareيُشْعِرَنَّAnd let not be awareبِكُمْabout youأَحَدًاanyone19
إِنَّهُمْIndeed, [they]إِنifيَظْهَرُوا۟they come to knowعَلَيْكُمْabout youيَرْجُمُوكُمْthey will stone youأَوْorيُعِيدُوكُمْreturn youفِىtoمِلَّتِهِمْtheir religionوَلَنAnd neverتُفْلِحُوٓا۟will you succeedإِذًاthen أَبَدًاever20
وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd similarlyأَعْثَرْنَاWe made knownعَلَيْهِمْabout themلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟that they might knowأَنَّthatوَعْدَ(the) Promiseٱللَّهِ(of) Allahحَقٌّ(is) trueوَأَنَّand thatٱلسَّاعَةَ(about) the Hourلَا(there is) noرَيْبَdoubtفِيهَآin itإِذْWhenيَتَنَٰزَعُونَthey disputedبَيْنَهُمْamong themselvesأَمْرَهُمْabout their affairفَقَالُوا۟and they saidٱبْنُوا۟Constructعَلَيْهِمover themبُنْيَٰنًاa structureرَّبُّهُمْTheir Lordأَعْلَمُknows bestبِهِمْabout themقَالَSaidٱلَّذِينَthose whoغَلَبُوا۟prevailedعَلَىٰٓinأَمْرِهِمْtheir matterلَنَتَّخِذَنَّSurely we will takeعَلَيْهِمover themمَّسْجِدًاa place of worship21
سَيَقُولُونَThey sayثَلَٰثَةٌ(they were) threeرَّابِعُهُمْthe forth of themكَلْبُهُمْtheir dogوَيَقُولُونَand they sayخَمْسَةٌ(they were) fiveسَادِسُهُمْthe sixth of themكَلْبُهُمْtheir dog رَجْمًۢاguessingبِٱلْغَيْبِabout the unseenوَيَقُولُونَand they sayسَبْعَةٌ(they were) sevenوَثَامِنُهُمْand the eight of themكَلْبُهُمْtheir dogقُلSayرَّبِّىٓMy Lordأَعْلَمُknows bestبِعِدَّتِهِمtheir numberمَّاNoneيَعْلَمُهُمْknows themإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلٌa fewفَلَاSo (do) notتُمَارِargueفِيهِمْabout themإِلَّاexceptمِرَآءً(with) an argumentظَٰهِرًاobviousوَلَاand (do) notتَسْتَفْتِinquireفِيهِمabout themمِّنْهُمْamong themأَحَدًا(from) anyone22
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَقُولَنَّsayلِشَا۟ىْءٍof anythingإِنِّىIndeed, Iفَاعِلٌwill doذَٰلِكَthatغَدًاtomorrow23
إِلَّآExceptأَنIfيَشَآءَAllah willsٱللَّهُAllah willsوَٱذْكُرAnd rememberرَّبَّكَyour Lordإِذَاwhenنَسِيتَyou forgetوَقُلْand sayعَسَىٰٓPerhapsأَن[that]يَهْدِيَنِwill guide meرَبِّىmy Lordلِأَقْرَبَto a nearer (way)مِنْthanهَٰذَاthisرَشَدًاright way24
وَلَبِثُوا۟And they remainedفِىinكَهْفِهِمْtheir caveثَلَٰثَ(for) threeمِا۟ئَةٍhundredسِنِينَyearsوَٱزْدَادُوا۟and addتِسْعًاnine25
قُلِSayٱللَّهُAllahأَعْلَمُknows bestبِمَاabout what (period)لَبِثُوا۟they remainedلَهُۥFor Himغَيْبُ(is the) unseenٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthأَبْصِرْHow clearly He seesبِهِۦ[of it]وَأَسْمِعْAnd how clearly He hearsمَاNotلَهُمfor themمِّنbesides Himدُونِهِۦbesides Himمِنanyوَلِىٍّprotectorوَلَاand notيُشْرِكُHe sharesفِى[in]حُكْمِهِۦٓHis Commandsأَحَدًا(with) anyone26
وَٱتْلُAnd reciteمَآwhatأُوحِىَhas been revealedإِلَيْكَto youمِنofكِتَابِthe Bookرَبِّكَ(of) your LordلَاNoneمُبَدِّلَcan changeلِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦHis Wordsوَلَنand neverتَجِدَyou will findمِنbesides Himدُونِهِۦbesides Himمُلْتَحَدًاa refuge27
وَٱصْبِرْAnd be patientنَفْسَكَyourselfمَعَwithٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَدْعُونَcallرَبَّهُمtheir Lordبِٱلْغَدَوٰةِin the morningوَٱلْعَشِىِّand the eveningيُرِيدُونَdesiringوَجْهَهُۥHis FaceوَلَاAnd (let) notتَعْدُpass beyondعَيْنَاكَyour eyesعَنْهُمْover themتُرِيدُdesiringزِينَةَadornmentٱلْحَيَوٰةِ(of) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَلَاand (do) notتُطِعْobeyمَنْwhomأَغْفَلْنَاWe have made heedlessقَلْبَهُۥhis heartعَنofذِكْرِنَاOur remembranceوَٱتَّبَعَand followsهَوَىٰهُhis desiresوَكَانَand isأَمْرُهُۥhis affairفُرُطًا(in) excess28
وَقُلِAnd sayٱلْحَقُّThe truthمِن(is) fromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordفَمَنso whoeverشَآءَwills فَلْيُؤْمِنlet him believeوَمَنand whoeverشَآءَwills فَلْيَكْفُرْlet him disbelieveإِنَّآIndeed, Weأَعْتَدْنَاhave preparedلِلظَّٰلِمِينَfor the wrongdoersنَارًاa Fireأَحَاطَwill surroundبِهِمْthemسُرَادِقُهَاits wallsوَإِنAnd ifيَسْتَغِيثُوا۟they call for reliefيُغَاثُوا۟they will be relievedبِمَآءٍwith waterكَٱلْمُهْلِlike molten brassيَشْوِى(which) scaldsٱلْوُجُوهَthe facesبِئْسَWretchedٱلشَّرَابُ(is) the drinkوَسَآءَتْand evilمُرْتَفَقًا(is) the resting place29
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believedوَعَمِلُوا۟and didٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِthe good deedsإِنَّاindeed, Weلَاwill not let go wasteنُضِيعُwill not let go wasteأَجْرَ(the) rewardمَنْ(of one) whoأَحْسَنَdoes goodعَمَلًاdeeds30
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseلَهُمْfor themجَنَّٰتُ(are) Gardensعَدْنٍof Edenتَجْرِىflowsمِنfromتَحْتِهِمُunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe riversيُحَلَّوْنَThey will be adornedفِيهَاthereinمِنْ[of] (with)أَسَاوِرَbraceletsمِنofذَهَبٍgoldوَيَلْبَسُونَand will wearثِيَابًاgarmentsخُضْرًاgreenمِّنofسُندُسٍfine silkوَإِسْتَبْرَقٍand heavy brocadeمُّتَّكِـِٔينَrecliningفِيهَاthereinعَلَىonٱلْأَرَآئِكِadorned couchesنِعْمَExcellentٱلثَّوَابُ(is) the rewardوَحَسُنَتْand goodمُرْتَفَقًا(is) the resting place31
وَٱضْرِبْAnd set forthلَهُمto themمَّثَلًاthe exampleرَّجُلَيْنِof two men:جَعَلْنَاWe providedلِأَحَدِهِمَاfor one of themجَنَّتَيْنِtwo gardensمِنْofأَعْنَٰبٍgrapesوَحَفَفْنَٰهُمَاand We bordered themبِنَخْلٍwith date-palmsوَجَعَلْنَاand We placedبَيْنَهُمَاbetween both of themزَرْعًاcrops32
كِلْتَاEachٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ(of) the two gardensءَاتَتْbrought forthأُكُلَهَاits produceوَلَمْand notتَظْلِمdid wrongمِّنْهُof itشَيْـًٔاanythingوَفَجَّرْنَاAnd We caused to gush forthخِلَٰلَهُمَاwithin themنَهَرًاa river33
وَكَانَAnd wasلَهُۥfor himثَمَرٌfruitفَقَالَso he saidلِصَٰحِبِهِۦto his companionوَهُوَwhile heيُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ(was) talking with himأَنَاI amأَكْثَرُgreaterمِنكَthan youمَالًا(in) wealthوَأَعَزُّand strongerنَفَرًا(in) men34
وَدَخَلَAnd he enteredجَنَّتَهُۥhis gardenوَهُوَwhile heظَالِمٌ(was) unjustلِّنَفْسِهِۦto himselfقَالَHe saidمَآNotأَظُنُّI thinkأَنthatتَبِيدَwill perishهَٰذِهِۦٓthisأَبَدًاever35
وَمَآAnd notأَظُنُّI thinkٱلسَّاعَةَthe Hourقَآئِمَةًwill occurوَلَئِنAnd ifرُّدِدتُّI am brought backإِلَىٰtoرَبِّىmy LordلَأَجِدَنَّI will surely findخَيْرًاbetterمِّنْهَاthan thisمُنقَلَبًا(as) a return36
قَالَSaidلَهُۥto himصَاحِبُهُۥhis companionوَهُوَwhile heيُحَاوِرُهُۥٓwas talking to himأَكَفَرْتَDo you disbelieveبِٱلَّذِىin One Whoخَلَقَكَcreated youمِنfromتُرَابٍdustثُمَّthenمِنfromنُّطْفَةٍa minute quantity of semenثُمَّthenسَوَّىٰكَfashioned youرَجُلًا(into) a man37
لَّٰكِنَّاBut as for meهُوَHeٱللَّهُ(is) Allahرَبِّىmy Lordوَلَآand notأُشْرِكُI associateبِرَبِّىٓwith my Lordأَحَدًاanyone38
وَلَوْلَآAnd why (did you) notإِذْwhenدَخَلْتَyou enteredجَنَّتَكَyour gardenقُلْتَsayمَاWhatشَآءَwillsٱللَّهُAllahلَا(there is) noقُوَّةَpowerإِلَّاexceptبِٱللَّهِwith AllahإِنIfتَرَنِyou see meأَنَا(me)أَقَلَّlesserمِنكَthan youمَالًا(in) wealthوَوَلَدًاand children39
فَعَسَىٰIt may beرَبِّىٓthat my Lordأَنthat my Lordيُؤْتِيَنِwill give meخَيْرًاbetterمِّنthanجَنَّتِكَyour gardenوَيُرْسِلَand will sendعَلَيْهَاupon itحُسْبَانًاa calamityمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyفَتُصْبِحَthen it will becomeصَعِيدًاgroundزَلَقًاslippery40
أَوْOrيُصْبِحَwill becomeمَآؤُهَاits waterغَوْرًاsunkenفَلَنso neverتَسْتَطِيعَyou will be ableلَهُۥto find itطَلَبًاto find it41
وَأُحِيطَAnd were surroundedبِثَمَرِهِۦhis fruitsفَأَصْبَحَso he beganيُقَلِّبُtwistingكَفَّيْهِhis handsعَلَىٰoverمَآwhatأَنفَقَhe (had) spentفِيهَاon itوَهِىَwhile it (had)خَاوِيَةٌcollapsedعَلَىٰonعُرُوشِهَاits trellisesوَيَقُولُand he saidيَٰلَيْتَنِىOh! I wishلَمْI had not associatedأُشْرِكْI had not associatedبِرَبِّىٓwith my Lordأَحَدًاanyone42
وَلَمْAnd notتَكُنwasلَّهُۥfor himفِئَةٌa groupيَنصُرُونَهُۥ(to) help himمِنother thanدُونِother thanٱللَّهِAllahوَمَاand notكَانَwasمُنتَصِرًا(he) supported43
هُنَالِكَThereٱلْوَلَٰيَةُthe protectionلِلَّهِ(is) from Allahٱلْحَقِّthe TrueهُوَHeخَيْرٌ(is the) bestثَوَابًا(to) rewardوَخَيْرٌand (the) bestعُقْبًا(for) the final end44
وَٱضْرِبْAnd presentلَهُمto themمَّثَلَthe exampleٱلْحَيَوٰةِ(of) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldكَمَآءٍlike waterأَنزَلْنَٰهُwhich We send downمِنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyفَٱخْتَلَطَthen minglesبِهِۦwith itنَبَاتُ(the) vegetationٱلْأَرْضِ(of) the earthفَأَصْبَحَthen becomesهَشِيمًاdry stalksتَذْرُوهُit (is) scatteredٱلرِّيَٰحُ(by) the windsوَكَانَAnd AllahٱللَّهُAnd Allahعَلَىٰoverكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingمُّقْتَدِرًا(is) All Able45
ٱلْمَالُThe wealthوَٱلْبَنُونَand childrenزِينَةُ(are) adornmentٱلْحَيَوٰةِ(of) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَٱلْبَٰقِيَٰتُBut the enduringٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتُgood deedsخَيْرٌ(are) betterعِندَnearرَبِّكَyour Lordثَوَابًا(for) rewardوَخَيْرٌand betterأَمَلًا(for) hope46
وَيَوْمَAnd the DayنُسَيِّرُWe will cause (to) moveٱلْجِبَالَthe mountainsوَتَرَىand you will seeٱلْأَرْضَthe earthبَارِزَةً(as) a leveled plainوَحَشَرْنَٰهُمْand We will gather themفَلَمْand notنُغَادِرْWe will leave behindمِنْهُمْfrom themأَحَدًاanyone47
وَعُرِضُوا۟And they will be presentedعَلَىٰbeforeرَبِّكَyour Lordصَفًّا(in) rowsلَّقَدْCertainlyجِئْتُمُونَاyou have come to UsكَمَاasخَلَقْنَٰكُمْWe created youأَوَّلَthe firstمَرَّةٍۢtimeبَلْNayزَعَمْتُمْyou claimedأَلَّنthat notنَّجْعَلَWe madeلَكُمfor youمَّوْعِدًاan appointment48
وَوُضِعَAnd (will) be placedٱلْكِتَٰبُthe Bookفَتَرَىand you will seeٱلْمُجْرِمِينَthe criminalsمُشْفِقِينَfearfulمِمَّاof whatفِيهِ(is) in itوَيَقُولُونَand they will sayيَٰوَيْلَتَنَاOh, woe to usمَالِWhat (is) forهَٰذَاthisٱلْكِتَٰبِ[the] Bookلَاnotيُغَادِرُleavesصَغِيرَةًa smallوَلَاand notكَبِيرَةًa greatإِلَّآexceptأَحْصَىٰهَاhas enumerated itوَوَجَدُوا۟And they will findمَاwhatعَمِلُوا۟they didحَاضِرًاpresentedوَلَاAnd notيَظْلِمُdeals unjustlyرَبُّكَyour Lordأَحَدًا(with) anyone49
وَإِذْAnd whenقُلْنَاWe saidلِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِto the Angelsٱسْجُدُوا۟Prostrateلِءَادَمَto Adamفَسَجَدُوٓا۟so they prostratedإِلَّآexceptإِبْلِيسَIblisكَانَ(He) wasمِنَofٱلْجِنِّthe jinnفَفَسَقَand he rebelledعَنْagainstأَمْرِthe Commandرَبِّهِۦٓ(of) his LordأَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥWill you then take himوَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓand his offspringأَوْلِيَآءَ(as) protectorsمِنother than Meدُونِىother than Meوَهُمْwhile theyلَكُمْ(are) to youعَدُوٌّۢenemiesبِئْسَWretchedلِلظَّٰلِمِينَfor the wrongdoersبَدَلًا(is) the exchange50
مَّآNotأَشْهَدتُّهُمْI made them witnessخَلْقَthe creationٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَلَاand notخَلْقَthe creationأَنفُسِهِمْ(of) themselvesوَمَاand notكُنتُI Amمُتَّخِذَthe One to takeٱلْمُضِلِّينَthe misleadersعَضُدًا(as) helper(s)51
وَيَوْمَAnd the DayيَقُولُHe will sayنَادُوا۟CallشُرَكَآءِىَMy partnersٱلَّذِينَthose whoزَعَمْتُمْyou claimedفَدَعَوْهُمْthen they will call themفَلَمْbut notيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟they will respondلَهُمْto themوَجَعَلْنَاAnd We will makeبَيْنَهُمbetween themمَّوْبِقًاa barrier52
وَرَءَاAnd will seeٱلْمُجْرِمُونَthe criminalsٱلنَّارَthe Fireفَظَنُّوٓا۟and they (will be) certainأَنَّهُمthat theyمُّوَاقِعُوهَاare to fall in itوَلَمْAnd notيَجِدُوا۟they will findعَنْهَاfrom itمَصْرِفًاa way of escape53
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyصَرَّفْنَاWe have explainedفِىinهَٰذَاthisٱلْقُرْءَانِthe Quranلِلنَّاسِfor mankindمِنofكُلِّeveryمَثَلٍexampleوَكَانَBut isٱلْإِنسَٰنُthe manأَكْثَرَ(in) mostشَىْءٍthingsجَدَلًاquarrelsome54
وَمَاAnd nothingمَنَعَpreventsٱلنَّاسَmenأَنthatيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟they believeإِذْwhenجَآءَهُمُhas come to themٱلْهُدَىٰthe guidanceوَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟and they ask forgivenessرَبَّهُمْ(of) their Lordإِلَّآexceptأَنthatتَأْتِيَهُمْcomes to themسُنَّةُ(the) wayٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)أَوْorيَأْتِيَهُمُcomes to themٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentقُبُلًاbefore (them)55
وَمَاAnd notنُرْسِلُWe sendٱلْمُرْسَلِينَthe Messengersإِلَّاexceptمُبَشِّرِينَ(as) bearers of glad tidingsوَمُنذِرِينَand (as) warnersوَيُجَٰدِلُAnd disputeٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveبِٱلْبَٰطِلِwith falsehoodلِيُدْحِضُوا۟to refuteبِهِtherebyٱلْحَقَّthe truthوَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟And they takeءَايَٰتِىMy Versesوَمَآand whatأُنذِرُوا۟they are warnedهُزُوًا(in) ridicule56
وَمَنْAnd whoأَظْلَمُ(is) more wrongمِمَّنthan (he) whoذُكِّرَis remindedبِـَٔايَٰتِof the Versesرَبِّهِۦ(of) his Lordفَأَعْرَضَbut turns awayعَنْهَاfrom themوَنَسِىَand forgetsمَاwhatقَدَّمَتْhave sent forthيَدَاهُhis handsإِنَّاIndeed, Weجَعَلْنَا[We] have placedعَلَىٰoverقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsأَكِنَّةًcoveringsأَنlestيَفْقَهُوهُthey understand itوَفِىٓand inءَاذَانِهِمْtheir earsوَقْرًا(is) deafnessوَإِنAnd ifتَدْعُهُمْyou call themإِلَىtoٱلْهُدَىٰthe guidanceفَلَنthen neverيَهْتَدُوٓا۟they will be guidedإِذًاthenأَبَدًاever57
وَرَبُّكَAnd your Lordٱلْغَفُورُ(is) the Most ForgivingذُوOwnerٱلرَّحْمَةِ(of) the MercyلَوْIfيُؤَاخِذُهُمHe were to seize themبِمَاfor whatكَسَبُوا۟they have earnedلَعَجَّلَsurely, He (would) have hastenedلَهُمُfor themٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentبَلButلَّهُمfor themمَّوْعِدٌ(is) an appointmentلَّنneverيَجِدُوا۟they will findمِنother than itدُونِهِۦother than itمَوْئِلًاan escape58
وَتِلْكَAnd theseٱلْقُرَىٰٓ[the] townsأَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْWe destroyed themلَمَّاwhenظَلَمُوا۟they wrongedوَجَعَلْنَاand We madeلِمَهْلِكِهِمfor their destructionمَّوْعِدًاan appointed time59
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidمُوسَىٰMusaلِفَتَىٰهُto his boyلَآNotأَبْرَحُI will ceaseحَتَّىٰٓuntilأَبْلُغَI reachمَجْمَعَthe junctionٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ(of) the two seasأَوْorأَمْضِىَI continueحُقُبًا(for) a long period60
فَلَمَّاBut whenبَلَغَاthey reachedمَجْمَعَthe junctionبَيْنِهِمَاbetween themنَسِيَاthey forgotحُوتَهُمَاtheir fishفَٱتَّخَذَand it tookسَبِيلَهُۥits wayفِىintoٱلْبَحْرِthe seaسَرَبًاslipping away61
فَلَمَّاThen whenجَاوَزَاthey had passed beyondقَالَhe saidلِفَتَىٰهُto his boyءَاتِنَاBring usغَدَآءَنَاour morning mealلَقَدْCertainlyلَقِينَاwe have sufferedمِنinسَفَرِنَاour journeyهَٰذَاthisنَصَبًاfatigue62
قَالَHe saidأَرَءَيْتَDid you seeإِذْwhenأَوَيْنَآwe retiredإِلَىtoٱلصَّخْرَةِthe rockفَإِنِّىThen indeed, Iنَسِيتُ[I] forgotٱلْحُوتَthe fishوَمَآAnd notأَنسَىٰنِيهُmade me forget itإِلَّاexceptٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe ShaitaanأَنْthatأَذْكُرَهُۥI mention itوَٱتَّخَذَAnd it tookسَبِيلَهُۥits wayفِىintoٱلْبَحْرِthe seaعَجَبًاamazingly63
قَالَHe saidذَٰلِكَThatمَا(is) whatكُنَّاwe wereنَبْغِseekingفَٱرْتَدَّاSo they returnedعَلَىٰٓonءَاثَارِهِمَاtheir footprintsقَصَصًاretracing64
فَوَجَدَاThen they foundعَبْدًاa servantمِّنْfromعِبَادِنَآOur servantsءَاتَيْنَٰهُwhom We had givenرَحْمَةًmercyمِّنْfromعِندِنَاUsوَعَلَّمْنَٰهُand We had taught himمِنfromلَّدُنَّاUsعِلْمًاa knowledge65
قَالَSaidلَهُۥto himمُوسَىٰMusaهَلْMayأَتَّبِعُكَI follow youعَلَىٰٓonأَنthatتُعَلِّمَنِyou teach meمِمَّاof whatعُلِّمْتَyou have been taughtرُشْدًا(of) right guidance66
قَالَHe saidإِنَّكَIndeed, youلَنneverتَسْتَطِيعَwill be ableمَعِىَwith meصَبْرًا(to have) patience67
وَكَيْفَAnd how canتَصْبِرُyou have patienceعَلَىٰforمَاwhatلَمْnotتُحِطْyou encompassبِهِۦof itخُبْرًاany knowledge68
قَالَHe saidسَتَجِدُنِىٓYou will find meإِنifشَآءَAllah willsٱللَّهُAllah willsصَابِرًاpatientوَلَآand notأَعْصِىI will disobeyلَكَyourأَمْرًاorder69
قَالَHe saidفَإِنِThen ifٱتَّبَعْتَنِىyou follow meفَلَا(do) notتَسْـَٔلْنِىask meعَنaboutشَىْءٍanythingحَتَّىٰٓuntilأُحْدِثَI presentلَكَto youمِنْهُof itذِكْرًاa mention70
فَٱنطَلَقَاSo they both set outحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَاwhenرَكِبَاthey had embarkedفِىonٱلسَّفِينَةِthe shipخَرَقَهَاhe made a hole in itقَالَHe saidأَخَرَقْتَهَاHave you made a hole in itلِتُغْرِقَto drownأَهْلَهَاits peopleلَقَدْCertainlyجِئْتَyou have doneشَيْـًٔاa thingإِمْرًاgrave71
قَالَHe saidأَلَمْDid notأَقُلْI sayإِنَّكَindeed, youلَنneverتَسْتَطِيعَwill be ableمَعِىَwith meصَبْرًا(to have) patience72
قَالَHe saidلَا(Do) notتُؤَاخِذْنِىblame meبِمَاfor whatنَسِيتُI forgotوَلَاand (do) notتُرْهِقْنِىbe hard (upon) meمِنْinأَمْرِىmy affairعُسْرًا(raising) difficulty73
فَٱنطَلَقَاThen they both set outحَتَّىٰٓuntilإِذَاwhenلَقِيَاthey metغُلَٰمًاa boyفَقَتَلَهُۥthen he killed himقَالَHe saidأَقَتَلْتَHave you killedنَفْسًاa soulزَكِيَّةًۢpureبِغَيْرِfor other thanنَفْسٍa soulلَّقَدْCertainlyجِئْتَyou have doneشَيْـًٔاa thingنُّكْرًاevil74
