قَالَSaidٱلْمَلَأُthe chiefsٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟were arrogantمِنamongقَوْمِهِۦhis peopleلَنُخْرِجَنَّكَWe will surely drive you outيَٰشُعَيْبُO ShuaibوَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoءَامَنُوا۟(have) believedمَعَكَwith youمِنfromقَرْيَتِنَآour cityأَوْorلَتَعُودُنَّyou must returnفِىtoمِلَّتِنَاour religionقَالَHe saidأَوَلَوْEven ifكُنَّاwe areكَٰرِهِينَ(the) ones who hate (it)88
قَدِVerilyٱفْتَرَيْنَاwe would have fabricatedعَلَىagainstٱللَّهِAllahكَذِبًاa lieإِنْifعُدْنَاwe returnedفِىinمِلَّتِكُمyour religionبَعْدَafterإِذْ[when]نَجَّىٰنَاsaved usٱللَّهُAllahمِنْهَاfrom itوَمَاAnd notيَكُونُit isلَنَآfor usأَنthatنَّعُودَwe returnفِيهَآin itإِلَّآexceptأَنthatيَشَآءَwillsٱللَّهُAllah رَبُّنَاour LordوَسِعَEncompassesرَبُّنَا(by) Our Lordكُلَّeveryشَىْءٍthingعِلْمًا(in) knowledgeعَلَىUponٱللَّهِAllahتَوَكَّلْنَاwe put our trustرَبَّنَاOur LordٱفْتَحْDecideبَيْنَنَاbetween usوَبَيْنَand betweenقَوْمِنَاour peopleبِٱلْحَقِّin truthوَأَنتَand Youخَيْرُ(are the) Bestٱلْفَٰتِحِينَ(of) those who Decide89
وَقَالَAnd saidٱلْمَلَأُthe chiefsٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedمِنamongقَوْمِهِۦhis peopleلَئِنِIfٱتَّبَعْتُمْyou followشُعَيْبًاShuaibإِنَّكُمْindeed, youإِذًاthenلَّخَٰسِرُونَ(will be) certainly losers90
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُThen seized themٱلرَّجْفَةُthe earthquakeفَأَصْبَحُوا۟then they becameفِىinدَارِهِمْtheir home(s)جَٰثِمِينَfallen prone91
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoكَذَّبُوا۟deniedشُعَيْبًاShuaibكَأَن(became) as ifلَّمْnotيَغْنَوْا۟they (had) livedفِيهَاthereinٱلَّذِينَThose whoكَذَّبُوا۟deniedشُعَيْبًاShuaibكَانُوا۟they wereهُمُthemٱلْخَٰسِرِينَthe losers92
فَتَوَلَّىٰSo he turned awayعَنْهُمْfrom themوَقَالَand saidيَٰقَوْمِO my peopleلَقَدْVerilyأَبْلَغْتُكُمْI (have) conveyed to youرِسَٰلَٰتِ(the) Messagesرَبِّى(of) my Lordوَنَصَحْتُand advisedلَكُمْ[to] youفَكَيْفَSo how couldءَاسَىٰI grieveعَلَىٰforقَوْمٍa peopleكَٰفِرِينَ(who are) disbelievers93
وَمَآAnd notأَرْسَلْنَاWe sentفِىinقَرْيَةٍa cityمِّنanyنَّبِىٍّProphetإِلَّآexceptأَخَذْنَآWe seizedأَهْلَهَاits peopleبِٱلْبَأْسَآءِwith adversityوَٱلضَّرَّآءِand hardshipلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَضَّرَّعُونَ(become) humble94
ثُمَّThenبَدَّلْنَاWe changedمَكَانَ(in) placeٱلسَّيِّئَةِ(of) the badٱلْحَسَنَةَthe goodحَتَّىٰuntilعَفَوا۟they increasedوَّقَالُوا۟and saidقَدْVerilyمَسَّ(had) touchedءَابَآءَنَاour forefathersٱلضَّرَّآءُthe adversityوَٱلسَّرَّآءُand the easeفَأَخَذْنَٰهُمSo We seized themبَغْتَةًsuddenlyوَهُمْwhile theyلَا(did) notيَشْعُرُونَperceive95
وَلَوْAnd ifأَنَّ[that]أَهْلَpeopleٱلْقُرَىٰٓ(of) the citiesءَامَنُوا۟(had) believedوَٱتَّقَوْا۟and feared Allahلَفَتَحْنَاsurely We (would have) openedعَلَيْهِمupon themبَرَكَٰتٍblessingsمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe heavenوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَلَٰكِنbutكَذَّبُوا۟they deniedفَأَخَذْنَٰهُمSo We seized themبِمَاfor whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَكْسِبُونَearn96
أَفَأَمِنَThen did feel secureأَهْلُ(the) peopleٱلْقُرَىٰٓ(of) the citiesأَنthatيَأْتِيَهُمcomes to themبَأْسُنَاOur punishmentبَيَٰتًا(at) nightوَهُمْwhile theyنَآئِمُونَ(were) asleep97
أَوَأَمِنَOr felt secureأَهْلُ(the) peopleٱلْقُرَىٰٓ(of) the citiesأَنthatيَأْتِيَهُمcomes to themبَأْسُنَاOur punishmentضُحًى(in) daylightوَهُمْwhile theyيَلْعَبُونَ(were) playing98
أَفَأَمِنُوا۟Then did they feel secureمَكْرَ(from the) planٱللَّهِ(of) AllahفَلَاBut notيَأْمَنُfeel secureمَكْرَ(from the) planٱللَّهِ(of) Allahإِلَّاexceptٱلْقَوْمُthe peopleٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ(who are) the losers99
أَوَلَمْWould it notيَهْدِguideلِلَّذِينَ[for] those whoيَرِثُونَinheritٱلْأَرْضَthe landمِنۢfromبَعْدِafterأَهْلِهَآits peopleأَنthatلَّوْifنَشَآءُWe willedأَصَبْنَٰهُمWe (could) afflict themبِذُنُوبِهِمْfor their sinsوَنَطْبَعُand We put a sealعَلَىٰoverقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsفَهُمْso theyلَا(do) notيَسْمَعُونَhear100
تِلْكَTheseٱلْقُرَىٰ(were) the cities نَقُصُّWe relateعَلَيْكَto youمِنْofأَنۢبَآئِهَاtheir newsوَلَقَدْAnd certainlyجَآءَتْهُمْcame to themرُسُلُهُمtheir Messengersبِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِwith clear proofsفَمَاbut notكَانُوا۟they wereلِيُؤْمِنُوا۟to believeبِمَاin whatكَذَّبُوا۟they (had) deniedمِنfromقَبْلُbeforeكَذَٰلِكَThusيَطْبَعُ(has been) put a sealٱللَّهُ(by) Allahعَلَىٰonقُلُوبِ(the) heartsٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ(of) the disbelievers101
وَمَاAnd notوَجَدْنَاWe foundلِأَكْثَرِهِمfor most of themمِّنْanyعَهْدٍcovenantوَإِنButوَجَدْنَآWe foundأَكْثَرَهُمْmost of themلَفَٰسِقِينَcertainly, defiantly disobedient102
ثُمَّThenبَعَثْنَاWe sentمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِمafter themمُّوسَىٰMusaبِـَٔايَٰتِنَآwith Our SignsإِلَىٰtoفِرْعَوْنَFiraunوَمَلَإِي۟هِۦand his chiefsفَظَلَمُوا۟But they were unjustبِهَاto themفَٱنظُرْSo seeكَيْفَhowكَانَwasعَٰقِبَةُ(the) endٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ(of) the corrupters103
وَقَالَAnd saidمُوسَىٰMusaيَٰفِرْعَوْنُO FiraunإِنِّىIndeed, I amرَسُولٌa Messengerمِّنfromرَّبِّ(the) Lordٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ(of) the worlds104
حَقِيقٌObligatedعَلَىٰٓonأَنthatلَّآnotأَقُولَI sayعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahإِلَّاexceptٱلْحَقَّthe truthقَدْVerilyجِئْتُكُمI (have) come to youبِبَيِّنَةٍwith a clear Signمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordفَأَرْسِلْso sendمَعِىَwith meبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israel105
قَالَHe saidإِنIfكُنتَyou haveجِئْتَcomeبِـَٔايَةٍwith a Signفَأْتِthen bringبِهَآitإِنifكُنتَyou areمِنَofٱلصَّٰدِقِينَthe truthful106
فَأَلْقَىٰSo he threwعَصَاهُhis staffفَإِذَاand suddenlyهِىَitثُعْبَانٌ(was) a serpentمُّبِينٌmanifest107
وَنَزَعَAnd he drew outيَدَهُۥhis handفَإِذَاand suddenlyهِىَitبَيْضَآءُ(was) whiteلِلنَّٰظِرِينَfor the observers108
قَالَSaidٱلْمَلَأُthe chiefsمِنofقَوْمِ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) FiraunإِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَسَٰحِرٌ(is) surely a magician عَلِيمٌlearned109
يُرِيدُHe wantsأَنtoيُخْرِجَكُمdrive you outمِّنْfromأَرْضِكُمْyour landفَمَاذَاso whatتَأْمُرُونَ(do) you instruct110
قَالُوٓا۟They saidأَرْجِهْPostpone himوَأَخَاهُand his brotherوَأَرْسِلْand sendفِىinٱلْمَدَآئِنِthe citiesحَٰشِرِينَgatherers111
وَجَآءَSo cameٱلسَّحَرَةُthe magiciansفِرْعَوْنَ(to) Firaunقَالُوٓا۟They saidإِنَّIndeedلَنَاfor usلَأَجْرًاsurely (will be) a rewardإِنifكُنَّاwe areنَحْنُ[we]ٱلْغَٰلِبِينَthe victors113
قَالَHe saidنَعَمْYesوَإِنَّكُمْand indeed youلَمِنَsurely (will be) ofٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَthe ones who are near114
قَالُوا۟They saidيَٰمُوسَىٰٓO MusaإِمَّآWhetherأَن[that]تُلْقِىَyou throwوَإِمَّآor Whetherأَن[that]نَّكُونَwe will beنَحْنُ[we]ٱلْمُلْقِينَthe ones to throw115
قَالَHe saidأَلْقُوا۟ThrowفَلَمَّآThen whenأَلْقَوْا۟they threwسَحَرُوٓا۟they bewitchedأَعْيُنَ(the) eyesٱلنَّاسِ(of) the peopleوَٱسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْand terrified themوَجَآءُوand came (up)بِسِحْرٍwith a magicعَظِيمٍgreat116
وَأَوْحَيْنَآAnd We inspiredإِلَىٰtoمُوسَىٰٓMusaأَنْthatأَلْقِThrowعَصَاكَyour staffفَإِذَاand suddenlyهِىَitتَلْقَفُswallow(ed)مَاwhatيَأْفِكُونَthey (were) falsifying117
فَوَقَعَSo was establishedٱلْحَقُّthe truthوَبَطَلَand became futileمَاwhatكَانُوا۟they used toيَعْمَلُونَdo118
قَالَSaidفِرْعَوْنُFiraunءَامَنتُمYou believedبِهِۦin himقَبْلَbeforeأَنْ[that]ءَاذَنَI give permissionلَكُمْto youإِنَّIndeedهَٰذَاthisلَمَكْرٌ(is) surely a plotمَّكَرْتُمُوهُyou have plotted itفِىinٱلْمَدِينَةِthe cityلِتُخْرِجُوا۟so that you may drive outمِنْهَآfrom itأَهْلَهَاits peopleفَسَوْفَBut soonتَعْلَمُونَyou will know123
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّI will surely cut offأَيْدِيَكُمْyour handsوَأَرْجُلَكُمand your feetمِّنْofخِلَٰفٍopposite (sides)ثُمَّThenلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْI will surely crucify youأَجْمَعِينَall124
وَمَاAnd notتَنقِمُyou take revengeمِنَّآfrom usإِلَّآexceptأَنْthatءَامَنَّاwe believedبِـَٔايَٰتِin (the) Signsرَبِّنَا(of) our Lordلَمَّاwhenجَآءَتْنَاthey came to usرَبَّنَآOur LordأَفْرِغْPourعَلَيْنَاupon usصَبْرًاpatienceوَتَوَفَّنَاand cause us to dieمُسْلِمِينَ(as) Muslims126
وَقَالَAnd saidٱلْمَلَأُthe chiefsمِنofقَوْمِ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) FiraunأَتَذَرُWill you leaveمُوسَىٰMusaوَقَوْمَهُۥand his peopleلِيُفْسِدُوا۟so that they cause corruptionفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthوَيَذَرَكَand forsake youوَءَالِهَتَكَand your godsقَالَHe saidسَنُقَتِّلُWe will killأَبْنَآءَهُمْtheir sonsوَنَسْتَحْىِۦand we will let liveنِسَآءَهُمْtheir womenوَإِنَّاand indeed, weفَوْقَهُمْover themقَٰهِرُونَ(are) subjugators127
قَالَSaidمُوسَىٰMusaلِقَوْمِهِto his peopleٱسْتَعِينُوا۟Seek helpبِٱللَّهِfrom Allahوَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟and be patientإِنَّIndeedٱلْأَرْضَthe earthلِلَّهِ(belongs) to AllahيُورِثُهَاHe causes to inherit itمَنwhomيَشَآءُHe willsمِنْofعِبَادِهِۦHis servantsوَٱلْعَٰقِبَةُAnd the endلِلْمُتَّقِينَ(is) for the righteous128
قَالُوٓا۟They saidأُوذِينَاWe have been harmedمِنfromقَبْلِbeforeأَن[that]تَأْتِيَنَاyou came to usوَمِنۢfromبَعْدِand afterمَا[what]جِئْتَنَاyou have come to usقَالَHe saidعَسَىٰPerhapsرَبُّكُمْyour Lordأَن[that]يُهْلِكَwill destroyعَدُوَّكُمْyour enemyوَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْand make you successorsفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthفَيَنظُرَthen seeكَيْفَhowتَعْمَلُونَyou will do129
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyأَخَذْنَآWe seizedءَالَ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunبِٱلسِّنِينَwith years (of famine)وَنَقْصٍand a deficitمِّنَofٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ[the] fruitsلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَذَّكَّرُونَreceive admonition130
فَإِذَاBut whenجَآءَتْهُمُcame to themٱلْحَسَنَةُthe goodقَالُوا۟they saidلَنَاFor usهَٰذِهِۦ(is) thisوَإِنAnd ifتُصِبْهُمْafflicts themسَيِّئَةٌbadيَطَّيَّرُوا۟they ascribe evil omensبِمُوسَىٰto Musaوَمَنand whoمَّعَهُۥٓ(were) with himأَلَآBeholdإِنَّمَاOnlyطَٰٓئِرُهُمْtheir evil omensعِندَ(are) withٱللَّهِAllahوَلَٰكِنَّbutأَكْثَرَهُمْmost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknow131
وَقَالُوا۟And they saidمَهْمَاWhateverتَأْتِنَاyou bring usبِهِۦtherewithمِنْofءَايَةٍ(the) signلِّتَسْحَرَنَاso that you bewitch usبِهَاwith itفَمَاthen notنَحْنُweلَكَ(will be) in youبِمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers132
فَأَرْسَلْنَاSo We sentعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلطُّوفَانَthe floodوَٱلْجَرَادَand the locustsوَٱلْقُمَّلَand the liceوَٱلضَّفَادِعَand the frogsوَٱلدَّمَand the bloodءَايَٰتٍ(as) signsمُّفَصَّلَٰتٍmanifestفَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟but they showed arroganceوَكَانُوا۟and they wereقَوْمًاa peopleمُّجْرِمِينَcriminal133
وَلَمَّاAnd whenوَقَعَfellعَلَيْهِمُon themٱلرِّجْزُthe punishmentقَالُوا۟they saidيَٰمُوسَىO MusaٱدْعُInvokeلَنَاfor usرَبَّكَyour Lordبِمَاby whatعَهِدَHe has promisedعِندَكَto youلَئِنIfكَشَفْتَyou removeعَنَّاfrom usٱلرِّجْزَthe punishmentلَنُؤْمِنَنَّsurely, we will believeلَكَ[for] youوَلَنُرْسِلَنَّand surely, we will sendمَعَكَwith youبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israel134
فَلَمَّاBut whenكَشَفْنَاWe removedعَنْهُمُfrom themٱلرِّجْزَthe punishmentإِلَىٰٓtillأَجَلٍa (fixed) termهُم(which) theyبَٰلِغُوهُwere to reach [it]إِذَاthenهُمْtheyيَنكُثُونَbroke (the word)135
فَٱنتَقَمْنَاSo We took retributionمِنْهُمْfrom themفَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُمْand We drowned themفِىinٱلْيَمِّthe seaبِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyكَذَّبُوا۟deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاOur Signsوَكَانُوا۟and they wereعَنْهَاto themغَٰفِلِينَheedless136
وَأَوْرَثْنَاAnd We made inheritorsٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَانُوا۟wereيُسْتَضْعَفُونَconsidered weak مَشَٰرِقَ(the) eastern (parts)ٱلْأَرْضِ(of) the landوَمَغَٰرِبَهَاand the western (parts) of itٱلَّتِىwhichبَٰرَكْنَاWe blessedفِيهَا[in it]وَتَمَّتْAnd was fulfilledكَلِمَتُ(the) wordرَبِّكَ(of) your Lord ٱلْحُسْنَىٰthe bestعَلَىٰforبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelبِمَاbecauseصَبَرُوا۟they were patientوَدَمَّرْنَاAnd We destroyedمَاwhatكَانَused toيَصْنَعُmakeفِرْعَوْنُFiraunوَقَوْمُهُۥand his peopleوَمَاand whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَعْرِشُونَerect137
وَجَٰوَزْنَاAnd We led acrossبِبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ(of) Israelٱلْبَحْرَthe seaفَأَتَوْا۟Then they cameعَلَىٰuponقَوْمٍa peopleيَعْكُفُونَdevotedعَلَىٰٓtoأَصْنَامٍidolsلَّهُمْof theirsقَالُوا۟They saidيَٰمُوسَىO MusaٱجْعَلMakeلَّنَآfor usإِلَٰهًاa godكَمَاlike whatلَهُمْthey haveءَالِهَةٌgodsقَالَHe saidإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youقَوْمٌ(are) a peopleتَجْهَلُونَignorant138
إِنَّIndeedهَٰٓؤُلَآءِtheseمُتَبَّرٌdestroyedمَّا(is) whatهُمْtheyفِيهِ(are) in itوَبَٰطِلٌand vainمَّا(is) whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَعْمَلُونَdo139
قَالَHe saidأَغَيْرَShould other thanٱللَّهِAllahأَبْغِيكُمْI seek for youإِلَٰهًاa godوَهُوَwhile Heفَضَّلَكُمْhas preferred youعَلَىoverٱلْعَٰلَمِينَthe worlds140
وَإِذْAnd whenأَنجَيْنَٰكُمWe saved youمِّنْfromءَالِ(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَ(of) Firaunيَسُومُونَكُمْwho were afflicting youسُوٓءَ(with) worstٱلْعَذَابِ(of) tormentيُقَتِّلُونَthey were killingأَبْنَآءَكُمْyour sonsوَيَسْتَحْيُونَand letting liveنِسَآءَكُمْyour womenوَفِىAnd inذَٰلِكُمthatبَلَآءٌ(was) a trialمِّنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordعَظِيمٌgreat141
وَوَٰعَدْنَاAnd We appointedمُوسَىٰ(for) Musaثَلَٰثِينَthirtyلَيْلَةًnightsوَأَتْمَمْنَٰهَاand We completed themبِعَشْرٍwith ten (more)فَتَمَّso was completedمِيقَٰتُ(the) set termرَبِّهِۦٓ(of) his Lordأَرْبَعِينَ(of) fortyلَيْلَةًnight(s)وَقَالَAnd saidمُوسَىٰMusaلِأَخِيهِto his brotherهَٰرُونَHarunٱخْلُفْنِىTake my placeفِىinقَوْمِىmy peopleوَأَصْلِحْand do rightوَلَاand (do) notتَتَّبِعْfollowسَبِيلَ(the) wayٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ(of) the corrupters142
وَلَمَّاAnd whenجَآءَcameمُوسَىٰMusaلِمِيقَٰتِنَاto Our appointed placeوَكَلَّمَهُۥand spoke to himرَبُّهُۥhis Lordقَالَhe saidرَبِّO my LordأَرِنِىٓShow meأَنظُرْ(that) I may lookإِلَيْكَat YouقَالَHe saidلَنNeverتَرَىٰنِىyou (can) see Meوَلَٰكِنِbutٱنظُرْlookإِلَىatٱلْجَبَلِthe mountainفَإِنِ[then] ifٱسْتَقَرَّit remainsمَكَانَهُۥin its placeفَسَوْفَthenتَرَىٰنِىyou (will) see MeفَلَمَّاBut whenتَجَلَّىٰrevealed (His) Gloryرَبُّهُۥhis Lordلِلْجَبَلِto the mountainجَعَلَهُۥHe made itدَكًّاcrumbled to dustوَخَرَّand fell downمُوسَىٰMusaصَعِقًاunconsciousفَلَمَّآAnd whenأَفَاقَhe recoveredقَالَhe saidسُبْحَٰنَكَGlory be to YouتُبْتُI turn (in repentance)إِلَيْكَto youوَأَنَاand I amأَوَّلُ(the) firstٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ(of) the believers143
قَالَHe saidيَٰمُوسَىٰٓO MusaإِنِّىIndeed, Iٱصْطَفَيْتُكَhave chosen youعَلَىoverٱلنَّاسِthe peopleبِرِسَٰلَٰتِىwith My Messagesوَبِكَلَٰمِىand with My wordsفَخُذْSo takeمَآwhatءَاتَيْتُكَI have given youوَكُنand beمِّنَamongٱلشَّٰكِرِينَthe grateful144
وَكَتَبْنَاAnd We ordained (laws)لَهُۥfor himفِىinٱلْأَلْوَاحِthe tablets مِنofكُلِّeveryشَىْءٍthingمَّوْعِظَةًan instructionوَتَفْصِيلًاand explanationلِّكُلِّfor everyشَىْءٍthingفَخُذْهَاSo take themبِقُوَّةٍwith firmnessوَأْمُرْand orderقَوْمَكَyour peopleيَأْخُذُوا۟(to) takeبِأَحْسَنِهَا(the) best of itسَأُو۟رِيكُمْI will show youدَارَ(the) homeٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ(of) the defiantly disobedient145
سَأَصْرِفُI will turn awayعَنْfromءَايَٰتِىَMy Signsٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَتَكَبَّرُونَare arrogantفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthبِغَيْرِwithoutٱلْحَقِّ[the] rightوَإِنand ifيَرَوْا۟they seeكُلَّeveryءَايَةٍsignلَّاnotيُؤْمِنُوا۟(will) they believeبِهَاin itوَإِنAnd ifيَرَوْا۟they seeسَبِيلَ(the) wayٱلرُّشْدِ(of) the righteousnessلَاnotيَتَّخِذُوهُ(will) they take itسَبِيلًا(as) a wayوَإِنbut ifيَرَوْا۟they seeسَبِيلَ(the) wayٱلْغَىِّ(of) [the] errorيَتَّخِذُوهُthey will take itسَبِيلًا(as) a wayذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyكَذَّبُوا۟deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاOur Signsوَكَانُوا۟and they wereعَنْهَاof themغَٰفِلِينَheedless146
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoكَذَّبُوا۟deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاOur Signsوَلِقَآءِand (the) meetingٱلْءَاخِرَةِ(of) the Hereafter حَبِطَتْworthlessأَعْمَٰلُهُمْ(are) their deedsهَلْWillيُجْزَوْنَthey be recompensedإِلَّاexceptمَا(for) whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَعْمَلُونَdo147
وَٱتَّخَذَAnd tookقَوْمُ(the) peopleمُوسَىٰ(of) Musaمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِۦafter himمِنْfromحُلِيِّهِمْtheir ornamentsعِجْلًاa calf جَسَدًاan imageلَّهُۥ[for] itخُوَارٌ(had) a lowing soundأَلَمْDid notيَرَوْا۟they seeأَنَّهُۥthat itلَا(could) notيُكَلِّمُهُمْspeak to themوَلَاand notيَهْدِيهِمْguide themسَبِيلًا(to) a wayٱتَّخَذُوهُThey took it (for worship)وَكَانُوا۟and they wereظَٰلِمِينَwrongdoers148
وَلَمَّاAnd whenسُقِطَ(it was made to) fallفِىٓintoأَيْدِيهِمْtheir handsوَرَأَوْا۟and they sawأَنَّهُمْthat theyقَدْ(had) indeedضَلُّوا۟gone astrayقَالُوا۟they saidلَئِنIfلَّمْnotيَرْحَمْنَاhas Mercy on usرَبُّنَاOur Lordوَيَغْفِرْand forgiveلَنَا[for] usلَنَكُونَنَّwe will surely beمِنَamongٱلْخَٰسِرِينَthe losers149
وَلَمَّاAnd whenرَجَعَreturnedمُوسَىٰٓMusaإِلَىٰtoقَوْمِهِۦhis people غَضْبَٰنَangryأَسِفًاand grievedقَالَhe saidبِئْسَمَاEvil is whatخَلَفْتُمُونِىyou have done in my placeمِنۢfromبَعْدِىٓafter meأَعَجِلْتُمْWere you impatientأَمْرَ(over the) matterرَبِّكُمْ(of) your LordوَأَلْقَىAnd he cast downٱلْأَلْوَاحَthe tabletsوَأَخَذَand seizedبِرَأْسِby headأَخِيهِhis brotherيَجُرُّهُۥٓdragging himإِلَيْهِto himselfقَالَHe saidٱبْنَO sonأُمَّ(of) my motherإِنَّIndeedٱلْقَوْمَthe peopleٱسْتَضْعَفُونِىconsidered me weakوَكَادُوا۟and were about toيَقْتُلُونَنِىkill meفَلَاSo (let) notتُشْمِتْrejoiceبِىَover meٱلْأَعْدَآءَthe enemiesوَلَاand (do) notتَجْعَلْنِىplace meمَعَwithٱلْقَوْمِthe peopleٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ(who are) wrongdoing150
قَالَHe saidرَبِّO my LordٱغْفِرْForgiveلِىmeوَلِأَخِىand my brotherوَأَدْخِلْنَاand admit usفِىintoرَحْمَتِكَYour Mercyوَأَنتَfor Youأَرْحَمُ(are) the Most Mercifulٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ(of) the merciful151
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّخَذُوا۟tookٱلْعِجْلَthe calfسَيَنَالُهُمْwill reach themغَضَبٌwrathمِّنfromرَّبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَذِلَّةٌand humiliationفِىinٱلْحَيَوٰةِthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَا(of) the worldوَكَذَٰلِكَAnd thusنَجْزِىWe recompenseٱلْمُفْتَرِينَthe ones who invent (falsehood)152
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoعَمِلُوا۟doٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِthe evil deedsثُمَّthenتَابُوا۟repentedمِنۢfromبَعْدِهَاafter thatوَءَامَنُوٓا۟and believedإِنَّindeedرَبَّكَyour Lordمِنۢfromبَعْدِهَاafter thatلَغَفُورٌ(is) surely Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful153
وَلَمَّاAnd whenسَكَتَwas calmedعَنfromمُّوسَىMusaٱلْغَضَبُthe angerأَخَذَhe took (up)ٱلْأَلْوَاحَthe tabletsوَفِىand inنُسْخَتِهَاtheir inscriptionهُدًى(was) guidanceوَرَحْمَةٌand mercyلِّلَّذِينَfor those whoهُمْ[they]لِرَبِّهِمْof their Lordيَرْهَبُونَ(are) fearful154
وَٱخْتَارَAnd choseمُوسَىٰMusaقَوْمَهُۥ(from) his peopleسَبْعِينَseventyرَجُلًاmenلِّمِيقَٰتِنَاfor Our appointmentفَلَمَّآThen whenأَخَذَتْهُمُseized themٱلرَّجْفَةُthe earthquakeقَالَhe saidرَبِّO my LordلَوْIfشِئْتَyou (had) willedأَهْلَكْتَهُمYou (could) have destroyed themمِّنfromقَبْلُbeforeوَإِيَّٰىَand meأَتُهْلِكُنَاWould You destroy usبِمَاfor whatفَعَلَdidٱلسُّفَهَآءُthe foolishمِنَّآamong usإِنْNotهِىَit (was)إِلَّاbutفِتْنَتُكَYour trialتُضِلُّYou let go astrayبِهَاby itمَنwhomتَشَآءُYou willوَتَهْدِىand You guideمَنwhomتَشَآءُYou willأَنتَYouوَلِيُّنَا(are) our Protectorفَٱغْفِرْso forgiveلَنَاusوَٱرْحَمْنَاand have mercy upon usوَأَنتَand Youخَيْرُ(are) Bestٱلْغَٰفِرِينَ(of) Forgivers155
وَٱكْتُبْAnd ordainلَنَاfor usفِىinهَٰذِهِthisٱلدُّنْيَا[the] worldحَسَنَةًgoodوَفِىand inٱلْءَاخِرَةِthe HereafterإِنَّاIndeed, weهُدْنَآwe have turnedإِلَيْكَto YouقَالَHe saidعَذَابِىٓMy punishment أُصِيبُI afflictبِهِۦwith itمَنْwhomأَشَآءُI willوَرَحْمَتِىbut My MercyوَسِعَتْencompassesكُلَّeveryشَىْءٍthingفَسَأَكْتُبُهَاSo I will ordain itلِلَّذِينَfor those whoيَتَّقُونَ(are) righteousوَيُؤْتُونَand giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَzakahوَٱلَّذِينَand those whoهُم[they]بِـَٔايَٰتِنَاin Our Versesيُؤْمِنُونَthey believe156
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيَتَّبِعُونَfollowٱلرَّسُولَthe Messengerٱلنَّبِىَّthe Prophetٱلْأُمِّىَّthe unletteredٱلَّذِىwhomيَجِدُونَهُۥthey find himمَكْتُوبًاwrittenعِندَهُمْwith themفِىinٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِthe Tauratوَٱلْإِنجِيلِand the InjeelيَأْمُرُهُمHe commands themبِٱلْمَعْرُوفِto the rightوَيَنْهَىٰهُمْand forbids themعَنِfromٱلْمُنكَرِthe wrongوَيُحِلُّand he makes lawfulلَهُمُfor themٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِthe pure thingsوَيُحَرِّمُand makes unlawfulعَلَيْهِمُfor themٱلْخَبَٰٓئِثَthe impure thingsوَيَضَعُand he relievesعَنْهُمْfrom themإِصْرَهُمْtheir burdenوَٱلْأَغْلَٰلَand the fettersٱلَّتِىwhichكَانَتْwereعَلَيْهِمْupon themفَٱلَّذِينَSo those whoءَامَنُوا۟believeبِهِۦin himوَعَزَّرُوهُand honor himوَنَصَرُوهُand help himوَٱتَّبَعُوا۟and followٱلنُّورَthe lightٱلَّذِىٓwhichأُنزِلَhas been sent downمَعَهُۥٓwith him أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose (are)هُمُ[they]ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَthe successful ones157
قُلْSayيَٰٓأَيُّهَاOٱلنَّاسُmankindإِنِّىIndeed I amرَسُولُ(the) Messengerٱللَّهِ(of) Allahإِلَيْكُمْto youجَمِيعًاallٱلَّذِىthe Oneلَهُۥfor Whomمُلْكُ(is the) dominionٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthلَآ(There is) noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimيُحْىِۦHe gives lifeوَيُمِيتُand causes deathفَـَٔامِنُوا۟So believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَرَسُولِهِand His Messengerٱلنَّبِىِّthe Prophetٱلْأُمِّىِّthe unletteredٱلَّذِىthe one whoيُؤْمِنُbelievesبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَكَلِمَٰتِهِۦand His Wordsوَٱتَّبِعُوهُand follow himلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَهْتَدُونَ(be) guided158
وَمِنAnd amongقَوْمِ(the) peopleمُوسَىٰٓ(of) Musaأُمَّةٌ(is) a communityيَهْدُونَ(which) guidesبِٱلْحَقِّwith truthوَبِهِۦand by itيَعْدِلُونَestablishes justice159
وَقَطَّعْنَٰهُمُAnd We divided themٱثْنَتَىْ(into) twoعَشْرَةَ(and) ten [i.e. twelve]أَسْبَاطًاtribesأُمَمًا(as) communitiesوَأَوْحَيْنَآAnd We inspiredإِلَىٰtoمُوسَىٰٓMusaإِذِwhenٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُasked him for waterقَوْمُهُۥٓhis peopleأَنِ[that]ٱضْرِبStrikeبِّعَصَاكَwith your staffٱلْحَجَرَthe stoneفَٱنۢبَجَسَتْThen gushed forthمِنْهُfrom itٱثْنَتَاtwoعَشْرَةَ(and) ten [i.e. twelve]عَيْنًاspringsقَدْCertainlyعَلِمَknewكُلُّeachأُنَاسٍpeopleمَّشْرَبَهُمْtheir drinking placeوَظَلَّلْنَاAnd We shadedعَلَيْهِمُ[on] themٱلْغَمَٰمَ(with) the cloudsوَأَنزَلْنَاand We sent downعَلَيْهِمُupon themٱلْمَنَّthe mannaوَٱلسَّلْوَىٰand the quailsكُلُوا۟Eatمِنfromطَيِّبَٰتِ(the) good thingsمَاwhichرَزَقْنَٰكُمْWe have provided youوَمَاAnd notظَلَمُونَاthey wronged Usوَلَٰكِنbutكَانُوٓا۟they wereأَنفُسَهُمْ(to) themselvesيَظْلِمُونَdoing wrong160
وَإِذْAnd whenقِيلَit was saidلَهُمُto themٱسْكُنُوا۟Liveهَٰذِهِ(in) thisٱلْقَرْيَةَcityوَكُلُوا۟and eatمِنْهَاfrom itحَيْثُwhereverشِئْتُمْyou wishوَقُولُوا۟and sayحِطَّةٌRepentanceوَٱدْخُلُوا۟and enterٱلْبَابَthe gateسُجَّدًاprostratingنَّغْفِرْWe will forgiveلَكُمْfor youخَطِيٓـَٰٔتِكُمْyour sinsسَنَزِيدُWe will increase (reward)ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ(of) the good-doers161
فَبَدَّلَBut changedٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوا۟wrongedمِنْهُمْamong themقَوْلًاwordغَيْرَother thanٱلَّذِى(that) whichقِيلَwas saidلَهُمْto themفَأَرْسَلْنَاSo We sentعَلَيْهِمْupon themرِجْزًاtormentمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyبِمَاbecauseكَانُوا۟they wereيَظْلِمُونَdoing wrong162
وَسْـَٔلْهُمْAnd ask themعَنِaboutٱلْقَرْيَةِthe townٱلَّتِىwhichكَانَتْwasحَاضِرَةَsituatedٱلْبَحْرِ(by) the seaإِذْwhenيَعْدُونَthey transgressedفِىinٱلسَّبْتِthe (matter of) Sabbathإِذْwhenتَأْتِيهِمْcame to themحِيتَانُهُمْtheir fishيَوْمَ(on the) dayسَبْتِهِمْ(of) their Sabbathشُرَّعًاvisiblyوَيَوْمَand (on the) dayلَاnotيَسْبِتُونَthey had Sabbathلَا(they did) notتَأْتِيهِمْcome to themكَذَٰلِكَThusنَبْلُوهُمWe test themبِمَاbecauseكَانُوا۟they wereيَفْسُقُونَdefiantly disobeying163
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَتْsaidأُمَّةٌa communityمِّنْهُمْamong themلِمَWhyتَعِظُونَ(do) you preachقَوْمًاa peopleٱللَّهُ(whom) Allahمُهْلِكُهُمْ(is going to) destroy themأَوْorمُعَذِّبُهُمْpunish themعَذَابًا(with) a punishmentشَدِيدًاsevereقَالُوا۟They saidمَعْذِرَةًTo be absolvedإِلَىٰbeforeرَبِّكُمْyour Lordوَلَعَلَّهُمْand that they mayيَتَّقُونَbecome righteous164
فَلَمَّاSo whenنَسُوا۟they forgotمَاwhatذُكِّرُوا۟they had been remindedبِهِۦٓwith [it]أَنجَيْنَاWe savedٱلَّذِينَthose whoيَنْهَوْنَforbadeعَنِ[from]ٱلسُّوٓءِthe evilوَأَخَذْنَاand We seizedٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوا۟wrongedبِعَذَابٍۢwith a punishmentبَـِٔيسٍۢwretchedبِمَاbecauseكَانُوا۟they wereيَفْسُقُونَdefiantly disobeying165
فَلَمَّاSo whenعَتَوْا۟they exceeded all boundsعَنaboutمَّاwhatنُهُوا۟they were forbiddenعَنْهُfrom itقُلْنَاWe saidلَهُمْto themكُونُوا۟Beقِرَدَةًapesخَٰسِـِٔينَdespised166
وَإِذْAnd whenتَأَذَّنَdeclaredرَبُّكَyour Lordلَيَبْعَثَنَّthat He would surely sendعَلَيْهِمْupon themإِلَىٰtillيَوْمِ(the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionمَن(those) whoيَسُومُهُمْwould afflict themسُوٓءَ(with) a grievousٱلْعَذَابِ[the] punishmentإِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordلَسَرِيعُ(is) surely swiftٱلْعِقَابِ(in) the retributionوَإِنَّهُۥbut indeed, Heلَغَفُورٌ(is) surely Oft-ForgivingرَّحِيمٌMost Merciful167
وَقَطَّعْنَٰهُمْAnd We divided themفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthأُمَمًا(as) nationsمِّنْهُمُAmong themٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ(are) the righteousوَمِنْهُمْand among themدُونَ(are) other thanذَٰلِكَthatوَبَلَوْنَٰهُمAnd We tested themبِٱلْحَسَنَٰتِwith the goodوَٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِand the badلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَرْجِعُونَreturn168
فَخَلَفَThen succeededمِنۢfromبَعْدِهِمْafter themخَلْفٌsuccessorsوَرِثُوا۟(who) inheritedٱلْكِتَٰبَthe Bookيَأْخُذُونَtakingعَرَضَgoodsهَٰذَا(of) thisٱلْأَدْنَىٰthe lower (life)وَيَقُولُونَand they sayسَيُغْفَرُIt will be forgivenلَنَاfor usوَإِنAnd ifيَأْتِهِمْcomes to themعَرَضٌgoodsمِّثْلُهُۥsimilar to itيَأْخُذُوهُthey will take itأَلَمْWas notيُؤْخَذْtakenعَلَيْهِمon themمِّيثَٰقُCovenantٱلْكِتَٰبِ(of) the Bookأَنthatلَّاnotيَقُولُوا۟they will sayعَلَىaboutٱللَّهِAllahإِلَّاexceptٱلْحَقَّthe truthوَدَرَسُوا۟while they studiedمَاwhatفِيهِ(is) in itوَٱلدَّارُAnd the homeٱلْءَاخِرَةُ(of) the Hereafterخَيْرٌ(is) betterلِّلَّذِينَfor those whoيَتَّقُونَfear AllahأَفَلَاSo will notتَعْقِلُونَyou use intellect169
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoيُمَسِّكُونَhold fastبِٱلْكِتَٰبِto the Bookوَأَقَامُوا۟and establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerإِنَّاindeed, Weلَا(will) notنُضِيعُ[We] let go wasteأَجْرَ(the) rewardٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ(of) the reformers170
وَإِذْAnd whenنَتَقْنَاWe raisedٱلْجَبَلَthe mountainفَوْقَهُمْabove themكَأَنَّهُۥas if it wasظُلَّةٌa canopyوَظَنُّوٓا۟and they thoughtأَنَّهُۥthat itوَاقِعٌۢ(would) fallبِهِمْupon themخُذُوا۟(We said), "TakeمَآwhatءَاتَيْنَٰكُمWe have given youبِقُوَّةٍwith strengthوَٱذْكُرُوا۟and rememberمَاwhatفِيهِ(is) in itلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَتَّقُونَfear Allah171
وَإِذْAnd whenأَخَذَ(was) takenرَبُّكَ(by) your Lordمِنۢfromبَنِىٓ(the) Childrenءَادَمَ(of) Adam مِنfromظُهُورِهِمْtheir loins ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْtheir descendantsوَأَشْهَدَهُمْand made them testifyعَلَىٰٓoverأَنفُسِهِمْthemselvesأَلَسْتُAm I notبِرَبِّكُمْyour Lordقَالُوا۟They saidبَلَىٰYesشَهِدْنَآwe have testifiedأَنLestتَقُولُوا۟you sayيَوْمَ(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ(of) the ResurrectionإِنَّاIndeedكُنَّاwe wereعَنْaboutهَٰذَاthisغَٰفِلِينَunaware172
أَوْOrتَقُولُوٓا۟you sayإِنَّمَآOnlyأَشْرَكَpartners (were) associated (with Allah)ءَابَآؤُنَا(by) our forefathersمِنfromقَبْلُbefore (us)وَكُنَّاand we areذُرِّيَّةًdescendantsمِّنۢfromبَعْدِهِمْafter themأَفَتُهْلِكُنَاSo will You destroy usبِمَاfor whatفَعَلَdidٱلْمُبْطِلُونَthe falsifiers173
وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd thusنُفَصِّلُWe explainٱلْءَايَٰتِthe Versesوَلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَرْجِعُونَreturn174
وَٱتْلُAnd reciteعَلَيْهِمْto themنَبَأَ(the) storyٱلَّذِىٓ(of the) one whomءَاتَيْنَٰهُWe gave [him]ءَايَٰتِنَاOur Versesفَٱنسَلَخَbut he detachedمِنْهَا[from] themفَأَتْبَعَهُso followed himٱلشَّيْطَٰنُthe Shaitaanفَكَانَand he becameمِنَofٱلْغَاوِينَthose gone astray175
وَلَوْAnd ifشِئْنَاWe willedلَرَفَعْنَٰهُsurely, We (could) have raised himبِهَاwith theseوَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ[and] but heأَخْلَدَadheredإِلَىtoٱلْأَرْضِthe earthوَٱتَّبَعَand followedهَوَىٰهُhis (vain) desiresفَمَثَلُهُۥSo his exampleكَمَثَلِ(is) like (the) exampleٱلْكَلْبِ(of) the dogإِنifتَحْمِلْyou attackعَلَيْهِ[on] himيَلْهَثْhe lolls out his tongueأَوْorتَتْرُكْهُif you leave himيَلْهَثhe lolls out his tongueذَّٰلِكَThatمَثَلُ(is the) exampleٱلْقَوْمِ(of) the peopleٱلَّذِينَwhoكَذَّبُوا۟deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَا[in] Our SignsفَٱقْصُصِSo relateٱلْقَصَصَthe storyلَعَلَّهُمْso that they mayيَتَفَكَّرُونَreflect176
سَآءَEvilمَثَلًا(as) an exampleٱلْقَوْمُ(are) the peopleٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَذَّبُوا۟deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاOur Signsوَأَنفُسَهُمْand themselvesكَانُوا۟they used toيَظْلِمُونَwrong177
مَنWhoeverيَهْدِ(is) guidedٱللَّهُ(by) Allahفَهُوَthen heٱلْمُهْتَدِى(is) the guided oneوَمَنwhile whoeverيُضْلِلْHe lets go astrayفَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَthen thoseهُمُ[they]ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ(are) the losers178
وَلَقَدْAnd certainlyذَرَأْنَاWe have createdلِجَهَنَّمَfor Hellكَثِيرًاmanyمِّنَofٱلْجِنِّthe jinnوَٱلْإِنسِand menلَهُمْFor themقُلُوبٌ(are) heartsلَّا(but) notيَفْقَهُونَthey understandبِهَاwith themوَلَهُمْand for themأَعْيُنٌ(are) eyesلَّا(but) notيُبْصِرُونَthey seeبِهَاwith themوَلَهُمْand for themءَاذَانٌ(are) earsلَّا(but) notيَسْمَعُونَthey hearبِهَآwith themأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThoseكَٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ(are) like cattleبَلْnayهُمْtheyأَضَلُّ(are) more astrayأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose هُمُtheyٱلْغَٰفِلُونَ(are) the heedless179
وَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahٱلْأَسْمَآءُ(are) the names ٱلْحُسْنَىٰthe most beautifulفَٱدْعُوهُso invoke Himبِهَاby themوَذَرُوا۟And leaveٱلَّذِينَthose whoيُلْحِدُونَdeviateفِىٓconcerningأَسْمَٰٓئِهِۦHis namesسَيُجْزَوْنَThey will be recompensedمَاfor whatكَانُوا۟they used toيَعْمَلُونَdo180
وَمِمَّنْAnd of (those) whomخَلَقْنَآWe have createdأُمَّةٌ(is) a nationيَهْدُونَwho guidesبِٱلْحَقِّwith the truthوَبِهِۦand therebyيَعْدِلُونَthey establish justice181
وَٱلَّذِينَBut those whoكَذَّبُوا۟deniedبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاOur SignsسَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمWe will gradually lead themمِّنْfromحَيْثُwhereلَاnotيَعْلَمُونَthey know182
أَوَلَمْDo notيَتَفَكَّرُوا۟they reflectمَاNotبِصَاحِبِهِمin their companionمِّن[of]جِنَّةٍ(is) any madnessإِنْNotهُوَheإِلَّا(is) butنَذِيرٌa warnerمُّبِينٌclear184
أَوَلَمْDo notيَنظُرُوا۟they lookفِىinمَلَكُوتِ(the) dominionٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthوَمَاand whatخَلَقَhas (been) createdٱللَّهُ(by) Allahمِنofشَىْءٍ(every)thingوَأَنْand thatعَسَىٰٓperhapsأَن[that]يَكُونَhasقَدِverilyٱقْتَرَبَcome near أَجَلُهُمْtheir termفَبِأَىِّSo in whatحَدِيثٍۢstatementبَعْدَهُۥafter thisيُؤْمِنُونَwill they believe185
مَنWhoeverيُضْلِلِ(is) let go astrayٱللَّهُ(by) Allahفَلَاthen (there is) noهَادِىَguideلَهُۥfor himوَيَذَرُهُمْAnd He leaves themفِىinطُغْيَٰنِهِمْtheir transgressionيَعْمَهُونَwandering blindly186
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youعَنِaboutٱلسَّاعَةِthe Hourأَيَّانَwhen will beمُرْسَىٰهَاits appointed timeقُلْSayإِنَّمَاOnlyعِلْمُهَاits knowledgeعِندَ(is) withرَبِّىmy Lordلَاno (one)يُجَلِّيهَاcan reveal [it]لِوَقْتِهَآits timeإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimثَقُلَتْIt lays heavilyفِىinٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِthe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earthلَاNotتَأْتِيكُمْwill it come to youإِلَّاbutبَغْتَةًsuddenlyيَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask youكَأَنَّكَas if youحَفِىٌّ(were) well informedعَنْهَاabout itقُلْSayإِنَّمَاOnlyعِلْمُهَاits knowledgeعِندَ(is) withٱللَّهِAllahوَلَٰكِنَّbutأَكْثَرَmostٱلنَّاسِ(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknow187
قُلSayلَّآNotأَمْلِكُI have powerلِنَفْسِىfor myselfنَفْعًا(to) benefitوَلَاand noضَرًّا(power to) harmإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatشَآءَwillsٱللَّهُAllahوَلَوْAnd ifكُنتُI wouldأَعْلَمُknowٱلْغَيْبَ(of) the unseenلَٱسْتَكْثَرْتُsurely I could have multipliedمِنَofٱلْخَيْرِthe goodوَمَاand notمَسَّنِىَ(could) have touched meٱلسُّوٓءُthe evilإِنْNotأَنَا(am) Iإِلَّاexceptنَذِيرٌa warnerوَبَشِيرٌand a bearer of good tidingsلِّقَوْمٍto a peopleيُؤْمِنُونَwho believe188
هُوَHeٱلَّذِى(is) the One Whoخَلَقَكُمcreated youمِّنfromنَّفْسٍa soulوَٰحِدَةٍsingleوَجَعَلَand madeمِنْهَاfrom itزَوْجَهَاits mateلِيَسْكُنَthat he might liveإِلَيْهَاwith herفَلَمَّاAnd whenتَغَشَّىٰهَاhe covers herحَمَلَتْshe carriesحَمْلًاa burdenخَفِيفًاlightفَمَرَّتْand continuesبِهِۦwith itفَلَمَّآBut whenأَثْقَلَتshe grows heavyدَّعَوَاthey both invokeٱللَّهَAllahرَبَّهُمَاtheir LordلَئِنْIfءَاتَيْتَنَاYou give usصَٰلِحًاa righteous (child)لَّنَكُونَنَّsurely we will beمِنَamongٱلشَّٰكِرِينَthe thankful189
فَلَمَّآBut whenءَاتَىٰهُمَاHe gives themصَٰلِحًاa good, (child)جَعَلَاthey makeلَهُۥfor Himشُرَكَآءَpartnersفِيمَآin whatءَاتَىٰهُمَاHe has given themفَتَعَٰلَىBut exaltedٱللَّهُ(is) Allahعَمَّاabove whatيُشْرِكُونَthey associate (with Him)190
أَيُشْرِكُونَDo they associateمَاwhatلَا(can) notيَخْلُقُcreateشَيْـًٔاanythingوَهُمْand theyيُخْلَقُونَare created191
وَلَاAnd notيَسْتَطِيعُونَthey are ableلَهُمْto (give) themنَصْرًاany helpوَلَآand notأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesيَنصُرُونَcan they help192
وَإِنAnd ifتَدْعُوهُمْyou call themإِلَىtoٱلْهُدَىٰthe guidanceلَاnotيَتَّبِعُوكُمْwill they follow youسَوَآءٌ(It is) sameعَلَيْكُمْfor youأَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْwhether you call themأَمْorأَنتُمْyouصَٰمِتُونَremain silent193
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whomتَدْعُونَyou callمِنfromدُونِbesidesٱللَّهِAllahعِبَادٌ(are) slavesأَمْثَالُكُمْlike youفَٱدْعُوهُمْSo invoke themفَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟and let them respondلَكُمْto youإِنifكُنتُمْyou areصَٰدِقِينَtruthful194
أَلَهُمْAre for themأَرْجُلٌfeetيَمْشُونَ(to) walkبِهَآwith [it]أَمْorلَهُمْfor themأَيْدٍhandsيَبْطِشُونَ(to) holdبِهَآwith [it]أَمْorلَهُمْfor themأَعْيُنٌeyesيُبْصِرُونَ(to) seeبِهَآwith [it]أَمْorلَهُمْfor themءَاذَانٌearsيَسْمَعُونَ(to) hearبِهَاwith [it]قُلِSayٱدْعُوا۟Callشُرَكَآءَكُمْyour partnersثُمَّthenكِيدُونِscheme against meفَلَاand (do) notتُنظِرُونِgive me respite195
إِنَّIndeedوَلِۦِّىَmy protectorٱللَّهُ(is) Allahٱلَّذِىthe One Whoنَزَّلَrevealedٱلْكِتَٰبَthe BookوَهُوَAnd Heيَتَوَلَّىprotectsٱلصَّٰلِحِينَthe righteous196
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whomتَدْعُونَyou invokeمِنfromدُونِهِۦbesides Himلَاnotيَسْتَطِيعُونَthey are ableنَصْرَكُمْ(to) help youوَلَآand notأَنفُسَهُمْthemselvesيَنصُرُونَcan they help197
وَإِنAnd ifتَدْعُوهُمْyou call themإِلَىtoٱلْهُدَىٰthe guidanceلَاnotيَسْمَعُوا۟do they notوَتَرَىٰهُمْAnd you see themيَنظُرُونَlookingإِلَيْكَat youوَهُمْbut they لَاnotيُبْصِرُونَ(do) they see198
خُذِHoldٱلْعَفْوَ(to) forgivenessوَأْمُرْand enjoinبِٱلْعُرْفِthe goodوَأَعْرِضْand turn awayعَنِfromٱلْجَٰهِلِينَthe ignorant199
وَإِمَّاAnd ifيَنزَغَنَّكَan evil suggestion comes to youمِنَfromٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ[the] Shaitaanنَزْغٌ[an evil suggestion]فَٱسْتَعِذْthen seek refugeبِٱللَّهِin AllahإِنَّهُۥIndeed, Heسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing200
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoٱتَّقَوْا۟fear (Allah)إِذَاwhenمَسَّهُمْtouches themطَٰٓئِفٌan evil thoughtمِّنَfromٱلشَّيْطَٰنِthe Shaitaanتَذَكَّرُوا۟they remember (Allah)فَإِذَاand thenهُمtheyمُّبْصِرُونَ(are) those who see (aright)201
وَإِخْوَٰنُهُمْBut their brothersيَمُدُّونَهُمْthey plunge themفِىinٱلْغَىِّthe errorثُمَّthenلَاnotيُقْصِرُونَthey cease202
وَإِذَاAnd whenلَمْnotتَأْتِهِمyou bring themبِـَٔايَةٍa Signقَالُوا۟they sayلَوْلَاWhy (have) notٱجْتَبَيْتَهَاyou devised itقُلْSayإِنَّمَآOnlyأَتَّبِعُI followمَاwhatيُوحَىٰٓis revealedإِلَىَّto meمِنfromرَّبِّىmy LordهَٰذَاThis (is)بَصَآئِرُenlightenmentمِنfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَهُدًىand guidanceوَرَحْمَةٌand mercyلِّقَوْمٍfor a peopleيُؤْمِنُونَwho believe203
وَإِذَاAnd whenقُرِئَis recitedٱلْقُرْءَانُthe Quranفَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟then listenلَهُۥto itوَأَنصِتُوا۟and pay attentionلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتُرْحَمُونَreceive mercy204
وَٱذْكُرAnd rememberرَّبَّكَyour Lordفِىinنَفْسِكَyourselfتَضَرُّعًاhumblyوَخِيفَةًand (in) fearوَدُونَand withoutٱلْجَهْرِthe loudnessمِنَofٱلْقَوْلِ[the] wordsبِٱلْغُدُوِّin the morningsوَٱلْءَاصَالِand (in) the eveningsوَلَاAnd (do) notتَكُنbeمِّنَamongٱلْغَٰفِلِينَthe heedless205
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoعِندَ(are) nearرَبِّكَyour Lordلَاnotيَسْتَكْبِرُونَ(do) they turn away in prideعَنْfromعِبَادَتِهِۦHis worshipوَيُسَبِّحُونَهُۥAnd they glorify Himوَلَهُۥand to Himيَسْجُدُونَthey prostrate206

إِنَّمَاOnlyٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersٱلَّذِينَ(are) those whoإِذَاwhenذُكِرَis mentionedٱللَّهُAllahوَجِلَتْfeel fearقُلُوبُهُمْtheir heartsوَإِذَاand whenتُلِيَتْare recitedعَلَيْهِمْto themءَايَٰتُهُۥHis Versesزَادَتْهُمْthey increase themإِيمَٰنًا(in) faithوَعَلَىٰand uponرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordيَتَوَكَّلُونَthey put their trust2
ٱلَّذِينَThose whoيُقِيمُونَestablishٱلصَّلَوٰةَthe prayerوَمِمَّاand out of whatرَزَقْنَٰهُمْWe have provided themيُنفِقُونَthey spend3
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose هُمُthey areٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersحَقًّا(in) truthلَّهُمْFor themدَرَجَٰتٌ(are) ranksعِندَwithرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَمَغْفِرَةٌand forgivenessوَرِزْقٌand a provisionكَرِيمٌnoble4
كَمَآAsأَخْرَجَكَbrought you outرَبُّكَyour Lordمِنۢfromبَيْتِكَyour homeبِٱلْحَقِّin truthوَإِنَّwhile indeedفَرِيقًاa partyمِّنَamongٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersلَكَٰرِهُونَcertainly disliked5
يُجَٰدِلُونَكَThey dispute with youفِىconcerningٱلْحَقِّthe truthبَعْدَمَاafter whatتَبَيَّنَwas made clearكَأَنَّمَاas ifيُسَاقُونَthey were drivenإِلَىtoٱلْمَوْتِ[the] deathوَهُمْwhile theyيَنظُرُونَ(were) looking6
وَإِذْAnd whenيَعِدُكُمُpromised youٱللَّهُAllahإِحْدَىoneٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ(of) the two groups أَنَّهَاthat it (would be)لَكُمْfor you وَتَوَدُّونَand you wishedأَنَّthatغَيْرَ(one) other thanذَاتِthatٱلشَّوْكَةِ(of) the armedتَكُونُwould beلَكُمْfor youوَيُرِيدُBut intendedٱللَّهُAllahأَنtoيُحِقَّjustifyٱلْحَقَّthe truthبِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦby His wordsوَيَقْطَعَand cut offدَابِرَ(the) rootsٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ(of) the disbelievers7
لِيُحِقَّThat He might justifyٱلْحَقَّthe truthوَيُبْطِلَand prove falseٱلْبَٰطِلَthe falsehoodوَلَوْeven ifكَرِهَdisliked (it)ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَthe criminals8
إِذْWhenتَسْتَغِيثُونَyou were seeking helpرَبَّكُمْ(of) your Lordفَٱسْتَجَابَand He answeredلَكُمْ[to] youأَنِّىIndeed, I amمُمِدُّكُمgoing to reinforce youبِأَلْفٍwith a thousandمِّنَofٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِthe Angelsمُرْدِفِينَone after another9
وَمَاAnd notجَعَلَهُ(it was) madeٱللَّهُ(by) Allahإِلَّاbutبُشْرَىٰgood tidingsوَلِتَطْمَئِنَّand so that might be at restبِهِۦwith itقُلُوبُكُمْyour heartsوَمَاAnd (there is) noٱلنَّصْرُ[the] victoryإِلَّاexceptمِنْfromعِندِ[of]ٱللَّهِAllahإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahعَزِيزٌ(is) All-MightyحَكِيمٌAll-Wise10
إِذْWhenيُغَشِّيكُمُHe covered youٱلنُّعَاسَwith [the] slumberأَمَنَةًa securityمِّنْهُfrom Himوَيُنَزِّلُand sent downعَلَيْكُمupon youمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyمَآءًwaterلِّيُطَهِّرَكُمso that He may purify youبِهِۦwith itوَيُذْهِبَand take awayعَنكُمْfrom youرِجْزَevil (suggestions)ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ(of) the ShaitaanوَلِيَرْبِطَAnd to strengthenعَلَىٰ[on]قُلُوبِكُمْyour heartsوَيُثَبِّتَand make firmبِهِwith itٱلْأَقْدَامَyour feet11
إِذْWhenيُوحِىinspiredرَبُّكَyour Lordإِلَىtoٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِthe AngelsأَنِّىI amمَعَكُمْwith youفَثَبِّتُوا۟so strengthenٱلَّذِينَthose whoءَامَنُوا۟believedسَأُلْقِىI will castفِىinقُلُوبِ(the) heartsٱلَّذِينَ(of) those whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieved ٱلرُّعْبَthe terrorفَٱضْرِبُوا۟so strikeفَوْقَaboveٱلْأَعْنَاقِthe necksوَٱضْرِبُوا۟and strikeمِنْهُمْfrom themكُلَّeveryبَنَانٍfingertip[s]12
ذَٰلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyشَآقُّوا۟opposedٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His MessengerوَمَنAnd whoeverيُشَاقِقِopposesٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahشَدِيدُ(is) severeٱلْعِقَابِin [the] penalty13
ذَٰلِكُمْThat فَذُوقُوهُSo taste itوَأَنَّAnd thatلِلْكَٰفِرِينَfor the disbelieversعَذَابَ(is the) punishmentٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fire14
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believeإِذَاWhenلَقِيتُمُyou meetٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveزَحْفًاadvancingفَلَاthen (do) notتُوَلُّوهُمُturn to themٱلْأَدْبَارَthe backs15
وَمَنAnd whoeverيُوَلِّهِمْturns to themيَوْمَئِذٍthat dayدُبُرَهُۥٓhis backإِلَّاexceptمُتَحَرِّفًا(as) a strategyلِّقِتَالٍof warأَوْorمُتَحَيِّزًا(to) joinإِلَىٰtoفِئَةٍa groupفَقَدْcertainlyبَآءَ(he has) incurredبِغَضَبٍwrathمِّنَofٱللَّهِAllahوَمَأْوَىٰهُand his abodeجَهَنَّمُ(is) Hellوَبِئْسَa wretchedٱلْمَصِيرُdestination16
فَلَمْAnd notتَقْتُلُوهُمْyou kill themوَلَٰكِنَّbutٱللَّهَAllahقَتَلَهُمْkilled themوَمَاAnd notرَمَيْتَyou threwإِذْwhenرَمَيْتَyou threwوَلَٰكِنَّbutٱللَّهَAllahرَمَىٰthrewوَلِيُبْلِىَand that He may testٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersمِنْهُfrom Himبَلَآءً(with) a trialحَسَنًاgoodإِنَّIndeedٱللَّهَAllahسَمِيعٌ(is) All-HearingعَلِيمٌAll-Knowing17
ذَٰلِكُمْThat (is the case)وَأَنَّand thatٱللَّهَAllah (is)مُوهِنُone who makes weakكَيْدِ(the) planٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ(of) the disbelievers18
إِنIfتَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟you ask for victoryفَقَدْthen certainlyجَآءَكُمُhas come to youٱلْفَتْحُthe victoryوَإِنAnd ifتَنتَهُوا۟you desistفَهُوَthen it (is)خَيْرٌgoodلَّكُمْfor youوَإِنbut ifتَعُودُوا۟you returnنَعُدْWe will return (too)وَلَنAnd neverتُغْنِىَwill availعَنكُمْyouفِئَتُكُمْyour forcesشَيْـًٔاanythingوَلَوْeven ifكَثُرَتْ(they are) numerousوَأَنَّAnd thatٱللَّهَAllahمَعَ(is) withٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers19
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believeأَطِيعُوا۟ObeyٱللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُۥand His MessengerوَلَاAnd (do) notتَوَلَّوْا۟turn awayعَنْهُfrom himوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَسْمَعُونَhear20
وَلَاAnd (do) notتَكُونُوا۟beكَٱلَّذِينَlike those whoقَالُوا۟sayسَمِعْنَاWe heardوَهُمْwhile theyلَا(do) notيَسْمَعُونَhear21
إِنَّIndeedشَرَّworstٱلدَّوَآبِّ(of) the living creaturesعِندَnearٱللَّهِAllahٱلصُّمُّ(are) the deafٱلْبُكْمُthe dumb ٱلَّذِينَthose whoلَا(do) notيَعْقِلُونَuse (their) intellect22
وَلَوْAnd ifعَلِمَ(had) knownٱللَّهُAllahفِيهِمْin themخَيْرًاany goodلَّأَسْمَعَهُمْsurely, He (would) have made them hearوَلَوْAnd ifأَسْمَعَهُمْHe had made them hearلَتَوَلَّوا۟surely they would have turned awayوَّهُمwhile theyمُّعْرِضُونَ(were) averse23
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believeٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟Respondلِلَّهِto Allahوَلِلرَّسُولِand His Messengerإِذَاwhenدَعَاكُمْhe calls youلِمَاto whatيُحْيِيكُمْgives you lifeوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahيَحُولُcomesبَيْنَ(in) betweenٱلْمَرْءِa manوَقَلْبِهِۦand his heartوَأَنَّهُۥٓand thatإِلَيْهِto Himتُحْشَرُونَyou will be gathered24
وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fearفِتْنَةًa trialلَّاnotتُصِيبَنَّwhich will afflictٱلَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُوا۟do wrongمِنكُمْamong youخَآصَّةًexclusivelyوَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahشَدِيدُ(is) severeٱلْعِقَابِ(in) the penalty25
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟And rememberإِذْwhenأَنتُمْyouقَلِيلٌ(were) fewمُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ(and) deemed weakفِىinٱلْأَرْضِthe earthتَخَافُونَfearingأَنthatيَتَخَطَّفَكُمُmight do away with youٱلنَّاسُthe menفَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْthen He sheltered youوَأَيَّدَكُمand strengthened youبِنَصْرِهِۦwith His helpوَرَزَقَكُمand provided youمِّنَofٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِthe good thingsلَعَلَّكُمْso that you mayتَشْكُرُونَ(be) thankful26
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوا۟believeلَا(Do) notتَخُونُوا۟betrayٱللَّهَAllahوَٱلرَّسُولَand the Messengerوَتَخُونُوٓا۟or betrayأَمَٰنَٰتِكُمْyour trustsوَأَنتُمْwhile youتَعْلَمُونَknow27
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And knowأَنَّمَآthatأَمْوَٰلُكُمْyour wealthوَأَوْلَٰدُكُمْand your childrenفِتْنَةٌ(are) a trialوَأَنَّAnd thatٱللَّهَAllah عِندَهُۥٓwith Himأَجْرٌ(is) a rewardعَظِيمٌgreat28
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاO youٱلَّذِينَwhoءَامَنُوٓا۟believeإِنIfتَتَّقُوا۟you fearٱللَّهَAllahيَجْعَلHe will grantلَّكُمْyouفُرْقَانًاa criterionوَيُكَفِّرْand will removeعَنكُمْfrom youسَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْyour evil deedsوَيَغْفِرْand forgiveلَكُمْyouوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahذُو(is) the Possessorٱلْفَضْلِ(of) Bountyٱلْعَظِيمِthe Great29
وَإِذْAnd whenيَمْكُرُplottedبِكَagainst youٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelievedلِيُثْبِتُوكَthat they restrain youأَوْorيَقْتُلُوكَkill youأَوْorيُخْرِجُوكَdrive you outوَيَمْكُرُونَAnd they were planningوَيَمْكُرُand (also) was planningٱللَّهُAllahوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahخَيْرُis (the) Bestٱلْمَٰكِرِينَ(of) the Planners30
وَإِذَاAnd whenتُتْلَىٰare recitedعَلَيْهِمْto themءَايَٰتُنَاOur Versesقَالُوا۟they sayقَدْVerilyسَمِعْنَاwe have heardلَوْifنَشَآءُwe wishلَقُلْنَاsurely, we could sayمِثْلَlikeهَٰذَآthisإِنْNotهَٰذَآis thisإِلَّآbutأَسَٰطِيرُtalesٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)31
وَإِذْAnd whenقَالُوا۟they saidٱللَّهُمَّO AllahإِنIfكَانَwasهَٰذَاthisهُوَ[it]ٱلْحَقَّthe truthمِنْ[of]عِندِكَfrom Youفَأَمْطِرْthen (send) rainعَلَيْنَاupon usحِجَارَةً(of) stonesمِّنَfromٱلسَّمَآءِthe skyأَوِorٱئْتِنَاbring (upon) usبِعَذَابٍa punishmentأَلِيمٍpainful32
وَمَاBut notكَانَisٱللَّهُ(for) Allahلِيُعَذِّبَهُمْthat He punishes themوَأَنتَwhile youفِيهِمْ(are) among themوَمَاand notكَانَisٱللَّهُAllahمُعَذِّبَهُمْthe One Who punishes themوَهُمْwhile theyيَسْتَغْفِرُونَseek forgiveness33
وَمَاBut whatلَهُمْ(is) for themأَلَّاthat notيُعَذِّبَهُمُ(should) punish themٱللَّهُAllahوَهُمْwhile theyيَصُدُّونَhinder (people)عَنِfromٱلْمَسْجِدِAl-MasjidٱلْحَرَامِAl-Haraamوَمَاwhile notكَانُوٓا۟they areأَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓits guardiansإِنْNot (can be)أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓits guardiansإِلَّاexceptٱلْمُتَّقُونَthe ones who fear Allahوَلَٰكِنَّbutأَكْثَرَهُمْmost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَknow34
وَمَاAnd notكَانَwasصَلَاتُهُمْtheir prayerعِندَatٱلْبَيْتِthe Houseإِلَّاexceptمُكَآءًwhistlingوَتَصْدِيَةًand clappingفَذُوقُوا۟So tasteٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentبِمَاbecauseكُنتُمْyou used toتَكْفُرُونَdisbelieve35
إِنَّIndeedٱلَّذِينَthose whoكَفَرُوا۟disbelieveيُنفِقُونَthey spendأَمْوَٰلَهُمْtheir wealthلِيَصُدُّوا۟to hinder (people)عَنfromسَبِيلِ(the) wayٱللَّهِ(of) AllahفَسَيُنفِقُونَهَاSo they will spend itثُمَّthenتَكُونُit will beعَلَيْهِمْfor themحَسْرَةًa regretثُمَّthenيُغْلَبُونَthey will be overcomeوَٱلَّذِينَAnd those whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelieveإِلَىٰtoجَهَنَّمَHellيُحْشَرُونَthey will be gathered36
لِيَمِيزَThat may distinguishٱللَّهُAllahٱلْخَبِيثَthe wickedمِنَfromٱلطَّيِّبِthe goodوَيَجْعَلَand placeٱلْخَبِيثَthe wickedبَعْضَهُۥsome of themعَلَىٰonبَعْضٍothersفَيَرْكُمَهُۥand heap themجَمِيعًاall togetherفَيَجْعَلَهُۥand put themفِىinجَهَنَّمَHellأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَThose هُمُtheyٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ(are) the losers37
قُلSayلِّلَّذِينَto those whoكَفَرُوٓا۟disbelieveإِنifيَنتَهُوا۟they ceaseيُغْفَرْwill be forgivenلَهُمfor themمَّاwhatقَدْ[verily]سَلَفَ(is) pastوَإِنBut ifيَعُودُوا۟they returnفَقَدْthen verilyمَضَتْprecededسُنَّتُ(the) practiceٱلْأَوَّلِينَ(of) the former (people)38
وَقَٰتِلُوهُمْAnd fight themحَتَّىٰuntilلَاnotتَكُونَthere isفِتْنَةٌoppressionوَيَكُونَand isٱلدِّينُthe religionكُلُّهُۥall of itلِلَّهِfor AllahفَإِنِBut ifٱنتَهَوْا۟they ceaseفَإِنَّthen indeedٱللَّهَAllahبِمَاof whatيَعْمَلُونَthey doبَصِيرٌ(is) All-Seer39
وَإِنAnd ifتَوَلَّوْا۟they turn awayفَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟then knowأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahمَوْلَىٰكُمْ(is) your ProtectorنِعْمَExcellentٱلْمَوْلَىٰ(is) the Protectorوَنِعْمَand Excellentٱلنَّصِيرُ(is) the Helper40
